"I'm not a feminist"

"oh, I'm so much less of a feminist than you are"

"I'm so not a femynyst I don't even know how to spell it"

Why is this in AIBU?

I thought MNHQ like to 'tidy' their topics so it should really be in FWR surely?

I can't say I've seen competitive anti-feminism but I've seen loads of posts that say something like: "I'm not a feminist but " which always makes me feel that they don't really understand what feminism is. Though I think it's fine to not want to be labelled.

I say I'm not a feminist, not to be competetive, but because I don't want to be seen as the type of person who sees sexism in every tiny little thing, I don't believe that what other women choose to do with their lives has any effect on me, I don't call for things to be banned because I don't like them, I don't look at the news and think 'a man would never have been spoken about like that'. I may be more inclined to call myself a feminist if some people stop giving the title such a bad name.

Why swear, Seeker?
Because your frequent posts seem to be designed to invite that sort of reaction.

Many of us don't find the need to constantly compare ourselves with men to decide whether we are better or worse than them. We are confident in ourselves and know that we can stand for what we are and what we do. And we certainly don't need you to do it on our behalf.

The last thing we need is to be damned by association with the continual whining of radfems who just seek to make political points.

I know you can't give it a rest, but I do wish that you could.

1)I know I'm not
2)Agreed, but sometimes they are wrong
3) I don't understand this one. You seem to be saying that if anyone says I am wrong, I should automatically accept that and change my mind. I don't expect you to do that, why don you expect me to?

It really annoys me when people trot out the 'get a fucking life' line, it usually means 'I can't think of anything else to say so I will just insult you instead!'

Agree, and I'm sad to say some posters on here have only entrenched this view of late. Not calling myself a feminist doesn't blind me to inequality, it doesn't stop me commenting on it or trying to change it.

You've asked for it to be moved? So should feminism never be discussed on a forum mostly frequented by women anywhere but on a specific board? REALLY?

Oh and why can't people talk about feminism in AIBU?

Because quite apart from the fact we've had enough of these bun fights threads lately to keep us going for the foreseeable, according to MNHQ it's in the wrong topic.

I just sweep up and make the tea...I don't make the rules.

If you own a vagine and you believe that you are entitled to be treated the same as a man then you're a feminist.

quid pro quo
