To think that people should shut their flipping dog up

Dog in next street from mine has been outside barking for the past 45 minutes at least. I can hear this dog from inside my house!

I'm a dog owner myself. and my dog rarely barks, (didn't bark at all before he was 1) when he does it's literally one woof when next door have their windows cleaned then he shuts up,

But why the fuck are they letting it continually bark?
And why haven't they let it in yet?

Mine does lots of barking at this time of year. It's the squirrels as they start to get a bit desperate and busy with burying their food etc that seem to get his dander up (as well as cats etc of course.)

45 mins is a long time tho. Mine would've gone hoarse by now. Hope it's not a regular occurrence.

FrustratedSycamorePants · 20/09/2012 21:38

It's not something I've noticed as being excessive before tonight. Although have heard it barking before. Never this annoying long.
Definately not squirrels round my way. Never seen 1 in five years.

Presumably normal people dont leg their dogs bark til they go hoarse. I wish this one was going hoarse. It's still barking.

Yanbu, my neighbours dog barks constantly whilst she is out. I hate it.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 20/09/2012 21:59

YANBU. Where we used to live there was a terrier who barked for hours and hours. It sounded like someone sawing wood.

But, our dog barks once and the neighbours are round complaining their kid has woken up...we have a child too, and actually, the dog was barking at the almighty racket you were making with your bin. That was probably what woke little johnny up. Hmm

The other night he came round complaining and our dog was lying sleeping on the back step. We just cant win.

NiniLegsInTheAir · 20/09/2012 22:01

YANBU. Someone in the next street (our gardens back onto each other) has this hideous little yappy dog that barks for hours all evening. Very very annoying and never once have they told it to shut up.

jkklpu · 20/09/2012 22:03

People have no idea how much their dogs bark when they are out of the house.
Some people would be mortified and others wouldn't care; the latter don't tend to care if their dogs bark when they're in either. It can be infuriating and we used to call the Council and sometimes call the neighbours themselves, esp if it was 3am. On those occasions, I'd get an earful about not having lived in the street for 30 years. Hmm, yes, very relevant Hmm

Canidae · 20/09/2012 22:04

Barking annoys me. More than two barks and I drag their furry butts in from the garden.

FrustratedSycamorePants · 20/09/2012 22:06

wannabe how can someone complain about a dog being asleep?

OP posts:
EyesNEars · 20/09/2012 22:12

If it happens often you can report it to your local council as noise pollution. If the dogs well fed/watered/sheltered it's not a cruelty issue.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 20/09/2012 22:12

Because a dog somewhere in the estate was barking. They just assumed it was our dog.

He also wanted to know do we walk it.

The dog goes with DP in the mornings. They leave DD to preschool. Go for a walk, then pick her up again as shes only there for two hours.

But because DP has to drive to DDs school (8 miles away) they dont see us walking him. So assume we dont.

And we have only lived here two weeks. Hmm

Needless to say he was told where to go.

Goofus · 20/09/2012 22:15

YANBU.
we have a neighbour who often shuts their dog out in the garden in the evening and it barks for ages and ages, very loudly.
Bring the dog back in you inconsiderate arse! Angry

MollyMurphy · 20/09/2012 22:16

Oh god barking is SO annoying. My in-laws are staying with us and have the most irritating yappy little dog. Its like they don't even hear the thing. I am going to have to send the neighbours some kind of gift when they finally go.

FrustratedSycamorePants · 20/09/2012 22:17

They seem to have heard you goofus it's finally stopped barking.

OP posts:
Goofus · 20/09/2012 22:23

Glad to be of help. Grin

If only my own neighbours would pay attention.... Hmm

nokidshere · 20/09/2012 22:28

ninilegs do you live near me :)

we have neighbours in the street that backs onto our gardens who let the dog bark all night - and i mean all night! I was so incensed a few weeks ago I sent an open letter to the local paper asking whoever it was to shut the thing up or at least rehome it so it could have owners who actually give a toss about it.

No idea if the person who's dog it was read it but it hasn't barked in the night since!

How can anyone listen to a dog bark for hours on end? If I can hear it in my house with all my doors and windows closed then it must be unbearable in the house it lives in??? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Bellyjaby · 21/09/2012 06:47

goofus do you live near me? We have a constantly barking, never walked, mainly shut out staffy cross next door. I know it's not the dog's fault but I want to throttle it. We're waiting on council response to it now. Not anticipating much.

The worst thing is stupid neighbour claims we all antagonise it. It barks if you open a window, and god forbid we stand in our own gardens (one of my neighbours likes to smoke outside his house, everytime he just sits on his patio smoking quietly alone the dog goes mental). Neighbours the other side are complaining the dog has started barking in the night inside. It has, I'm nearly 39 weeks pregnant and it barks everytime I go to the loo (in my house btw, I don't wee in the garden Wink).

Argh!!! Sorry to hijack with a rant of my own.

TantrumsAndGoldAndOrange · 21/09/2012 06:51

My MIL lives next door to a dog that is never allowed inside.
The dog barks constantly. Every time someone goes into the bathroom it barks and howls.
She can't go out in her garden because the dog barks at her and tries to jump the fence. It's ridiculous. Why have a dog and then shut it outside all day and night?

Alligatorpie · 21/09/2012 07:03

We have a German Shepard living 2 floors down from us, in a tiny garden. It barks all day and night, and the neighborhood kids run up and provoke him, then watch him suffer. We are actually thinking about moving because of it. There are no noise pollution laws here, unfortunately! I feel for the dog, but it drives me crazy.

I feel your pain.

SuePurblybilt · 21/09/2012 07:53

Maybe it's my new NDNs?
If they're in, the dog is out. Crying and whining, except when I/DD/my dog go into my garden or someone walks on the other side of theirs. Then it flings itself at the fence, barking and snarling.
If they're out, the dog is in. Alone. Howling.

They haven't let it out the front/taken it in the car/walked it in the weeks I have lived here. Or not that I've seen anyway - I'll admit it could be happening it's not.

Pendeen · 21/09/2012 10:39

Just wondering if it make the situation any less annoying if any of you are dog owners or like dogs i.e. have to accept that your dog barks as well?

I am neither and TBH have never really understood why anyone would want to have a dog - unless blind, breeding for the blind or some reason other than as a pet.

So, no surprise that I absolutely loathe the sound of barking.

Bellyjaby · 21/09/2012 11:19

pendeen I don't currently have a dog, but grew up with them and I like them. Despite being due with dc2 I won't have a dog as they're too hard work! My neighbours dog just wants some exercise and attention poor thing, I try not to blame the dog and it's not a breed that tends to be yappy when looked after properly. I think some people don't understand that all dogs are different and whilst some are happy being left in a yard to run around, it's not enough for another dog.

NiniLegsInTheAir · 21/09/2012 11:24

nokidshere I doubt it as our local yappy piece of shit is still going every evening, it drives me insane. Love your idea of a local letter though, I might give it a go myself! Did you put your real name down though? How did they know it was them? I'm intrigue Smile

FrustratedSycamorePants · 21/09/2012 11:41

pendeen I have a dog, but it doesn't make it more bearable to listen to a dog barking for over an hour.

OP posts:
SuePurblybilt · 21/09/2012 11:54

I have a dog too. He barks at the postman, as all dogs should, and that is it.
If he whined outside I'd let him in.

Floralnomad · 21/09/2012 12:02

My dog barks at everything and anything but I always get him in as soon as I hear him . My neighbours have a dog that barks constantly when they are out ,which is often , but makes no noise when they are in. They often comment on how much my dog barks which is bloody annoying as its usually noise from their garden that he is barking at!
