"gentle" and "a chatterbox" respectively to describe the two women police officers who were murdered on duty yesterday.

Can you imagine those words ever being used to describe a man?

Silencing a discussion because you don't like it ?

Very mature and open minded.

threeOrangesocksmorgan · 20/09/2012 17:27

don't you mean 24
well maybe 23 now

MelodyPondering · 20/09/2012 17:27

Didn't sound aggressive to me.

MelodyPondering · 20/09/2012 17:28

20?

QuickLookBusy · 20/09/2012 17:32

Limited, you said " you get aggressive when you hear things which contradict your point of view" But you based that assumption on one comment which wasn't aggressive anyway?

I'd call that a little bit silly, but never mind.

QuickLookBusy · 20/09/2012 17:33

19?

QuickLookBusy · 20/09/2012 17:34

Leaving aside anything that their families said- which no one should have the temerity to question, the "girl" issue is the other one. No one called another police officer fallen in the line of duty- David Rathband- a lad, did they?

limitedperiodonly · 20/09/2012 17:36

Tbhere's this thing called a conversation melody. One of us starts talking and the other one listens until it's her turn.

They can be very enjoyable if people know how to do them.

atacareercrossroads · 20/09/2012 17:36

Cant wait for this fucking offensive shit to end

MelodyPondering · 20/09/2012 17:37

Oh I'm sorry limited, did I interrupt you or something?

QuickLookBusy · 20/09/2012 17:37

Invited maybe you should try it?

QuickLookBusy · 20/09/2012 17:38

Sorry that should be Limited.

QuickLookBusy · 20/09/2012 17:38

Me too atacrossroads

Ganging up on Limited now ? Words fail me

NetworkGuy · 20/09/2012 17:42

Hullygully - The debate AROSE from the words used to describe female professionals in this specific instance.

Indeed, but the OP didn't know those were comments from family / colleagues and kept on stressing how the CC was in the wrong to use those quotes (as if she can be sure there were some 'pc' quotes to call on).

The more significant "young girls" comment by Ian Hanson, GMP Federation, has been removed from the BBC News page (where it had been) anyway.

MelodyPondering · 20/09/2012 17:42

Ganging up? I was responding to this:

"Tbhere's this thing called a conversation melody. One of us starts talking and the other one listens until it's her turn.

They can be very enjoyable if people know how to do them."

lemonmuffin · 20/09/2012 17:43

"It would be inappropriate to think the quotes provided weren't good enough and to carry on questioning someone. Or to reject using those quotes because a tiny proportion of people might be offended."

Exactly. The family gave these quotes, that's what they wanted to be said. No one elses opinion really matters.

QuickLookBusy · 20/09/2012 17:44

Blistory, I think if you read Limited posts she has given out a fair few insults to people. I'm sure she is quite capable of responding.

According to Limited, I'm insensitive and aggressive. I also dont know how what the police force do. Melody doesnt understand, so its a waste of time trying to explain anything to her.

NetworkGuy · 20/09/2012 17:44

Thank goodness the thread will die once it reaches the limit.

Shame it has not yet been moved to _Chat (so it won't stay around forever) though.

Was good to see contributions from those with closer experience, and shame this thread came into being at such a time.

lemonmuffin · 20/09/2012 17:45

Late to this thread, but Bupcakes - you were bang on the money all the way through

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 20/09/2012 17:46

This thread- the worst of MN. And I don't mean because it was posted. I mean because of how the bunfight debate has gone.
The sooner it dies the better really.

MelodyPondering · 20/09/2012 17:47

I'm still amazed it was started to be honest.

NetworkGuy · 20/09/2012 17:48

for seeker - I suspect the quotes came from colleagues and were passed up the chain of command as everyone up to the CC knew that in making a statement, some better idea of how work colleagues thought of those who had been killed, would be needed.
