To get annoyed when M.N get arsey with o.p's

I personally think some mumsnetters get way too arsey when an o.p starts a thread about a topic that has been discussed before. Perhaps the poster doesn't spend their whole life on here and doesn't keep a perfectly maintained scrap books of threads. Maybe posters could be constructive, link it to an old thread or how about not answer?

This has been done before OP... :o

Shinybits · 15/09/2012 10:50

Haha! I was just about to say I predict someone will come on a do that - I was way too slow on that one!

Lol at Iawn

I agree, Shiny. I never look to see if a thread has been done before. Even if it has, a new thread could go completely differently and get different responses depending on who happens to be online.

PunkInDublic · 15/09/2012 10:53

Good point MmeLindor, never thought of it in that light.

Iawn Grin

MmeLindor · 15/09/2012 10:57

When I joined MN there were about 4 threads a day about Crocs. Where to buy them, if it was unreasonable only to wear Crocs, what colours were best, if the cheap ones were crap.

Ask the same questions today and you would get very different answers.

Shinybits · 15/09/2012 10:57

I think areas of m.n can be too clicky and often intimidating to post. Which, IMO, goes against the purpose of m.n.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 15/09/2012 11:06

I agree.

Sometimes the advice given is to do a sewrch on a subject and look at previous threads. But WOE BETIDE anyone who resurrects an old thread about the relevant subject, as then the grumps will moan and mutter about that heinous behaviour.

Sigh.

MNhoneydragonHQ · 15/09/2012 11:09

But I don't like Zombie threads. I get an alarming sense of deja vous and have to look at the calender in case I have time travelled.

YANBU about the "been done before"

YABU about cliqueiness

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 15/09/2012 11:19

I don't like Zombie threads either, and I don't see a problem at all about something being posted that has been done before. All the things that have been done before enough for us to remember them are probably threads that got quite long and hung around for a few days, which indicates that it's a subject that people want to talk about. So, no harm in starting another thread!

furrygoldone · 15/09/2012 11:23

Zombie threads are far more annoying than thread repetition, I just ignore the threads I've 'seen before' or have no interest in, some people just like to be really grumpy.

akaemmafrost · 15/09/2012 11:26

Agree. Sometime you want to talk things over NOW not read 2 year old responses. Doesn't bother me at all.

MmeLindor · 15/09/2012 11:39

Agree about the ZombieThread. I get annoyed at them because I see a post by someone who has long gone and think they are back, which is then followed by disappointment when I note the date.

Pagwatch · 15/09/2012 11:42

I get irritated by zombie threads. And by people telling op 'this as been done to death'
But yabu about cliqueiness. People recognise each other and chat. Join in or ignore.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 15/09/2012 13:47

Grin
sidles out sniggering childishly

Trills · 15/09/2012 13:48

Shouldn't this be in the "complaining about Mumsnet" topic?

WhatYouLookingAt · 15/09/2012 13:48

Clicky? Does yours have a soundtrack?

scaevola · 15/09/2012 13:51

It's only annoying when you get half a dozen threads started in the space of a few hours about the same subject so comments get scattered rather than there being a nice all-in chat/bun-fight/handwringing or whatever.

And as for zombie threads - surely it depends on the content? Some subjects lend themselves to longer discussions over time.

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/09/2012 13:55

I never see any Zombie threads Confused

WhatYouLookingAt · 15/09/2012 13:55

There are loads of them, but people don't notice as they don't look at the date.

picnicbasketcase · 15/09/2012 13:57

I have been griped at before for politely mentioning that a subject comes up a lot. It wasn't even in a 'for FUCK's sake, everyone's SO over stealing grapes, you massive tit' way, but people can get awfully arsey about even being politely informed that other people might come on a thread and say just that.

If that makes sense.

IamtheZombie · 15/09/2012 14:47

Zombie cries quietly in the corner.

Promises never, ever to start another thread.

Birdsgottafly · 15/09/2012 14:54

I agree with Mme, i was all excited th eother day thinking Fabby was back.

Then i saw my name and thought wtf, then realised that i was about to say the opposite of what i posted last year Grin

Good point, Scaevola. That is irritating.

When there is something on the news that I want to chat about, I do tend to have a quick peek at In The News topic first.

Mary
Yes, but you are assuming that the person is on the windup, when it might simply be that they are fairly new, have been to the supermarket and gotten irked at someone using the P&T parking spaces. They don't know that we have discussed this up and down the boards for DECADES.
