To get annoyed when M.N get arsey with o.p's

Shinybits · 15/09/2012 10:49

I personally think some mumsnetters get way too arsey when an o.p starts a thread about a topic that has been discussed before. Perhaps the poster doesn't spend their whole life on here and doesn't keep a perfectly maintained scrap books of threads. Maybe posters could be constructive, link it to an old thread or how about not answer?

I'm sad and bitchy Grin.

Rusty That is well impressive. What's the secret to a successful undead-thread? .

QuangleWangleQuee · 15/09/2012 19:44

I agree

MmeLindor · 15/09/2012 22:19

Bunny
I don't think that individual posters are nice one day and nasty the next, but that the first one or two posts on a thread set the tone.

So if the first few posts on this thread had been

'oh, FFS. Not this again'

'fuck off, if you don't like it here'

'yet another newbie who starts a thread to whinge'

etc

then this thread would have developed very differently. If you were to post the exact same OP a few days later, then you might see that the responses would be very different. Not because the individuals would react differently, but because other people would reply.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 15/09/2012 22:32

I agree OP.

What's the point of searching the archives for a topic. If you want to talk about (say) teething gel you want to TALK about it. Not search for an old thread about it. This is a talk forum after all. Plus agree with mmelindor - you could get a great variety of responses dependng on when you post.

I think people are buggered sometimes - post a regular subject and you get 'this has been done thousands of times', bump an old thread which you have found in the archives and you get 'zombie thread'. You can't win.

It is very rude I think when people say 'oh god this again' and post biscuits and . - hate that popcorn shit and wish it would stop.

That said, OP - it was a lot worse when I started coming on mumsnet, a whole load 'oh for fuck's sake this topci has bee done to death' and other rudeneSs.

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/09/2012 22:34

Oh er - what is a Zombie thread then.

I think I have completely misunderstood.

IamtheZombie · 15/09/2012 22:35

Zombie really only sees one problem with "zombie threads".

People read the OP and respond to that (sometimes years after the fact). They don't read the entire thread and respond to the person who resurrected it.

IamtheZombie · 15/09/2012 22:36

Exit, it's an old thread that someone has resurrected.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 15/09/2012 22:37

Oooh I want to rub my rude parts against posters like booki. Grin

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/09/2012 22:37

Thank you Z

I thought they were threads about Zombies.

How stupid am I, really???

IamtheZombie · 15/09/2012 22:40

It's usually the OFRS threads that are about Zombies, Exit.

IamtheZombie · 15/09/2012 22:41

And, you ARE NOT STUPID!

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/09/2012 22:42

Thank you Z

IamtheZombie · 15/09/2012 22:47

Oooh, Agas. Zombie has an Aga question. Well, she has a premlinary question and the Aga question is the supplementary:

  1. If you have used a tagine, can you tell Zombie what you use it for.
  1. Can a tagine be used in an Aga?
ExitPursuedByABear · 15/09/2012 23:06

Too continental for me Z.

No

I have looked at them, and pondered, and then done nothing.

Story of my life really.

I like to think as the Aga as one big Tagine.

Leena49 · 16/09/2012 03:49

Shoot me now it will be less painful!

Shinybits · 16/09/2012 10:30

Some good points, I'm glad I asked - learnt loads of terminology too! Can someone explain where biscuits and popcorn come from?

OP posts:
flow4 · 16/09/2012 10:32

Biscuit = Biscuit (As in "That takes the biscuit", I assume!)
Popcorn doesn't have an icon, but I've seen it being used a couple of times when someone thinks a thread is going to be great entertainment!

Shinybits · 16/09/2012 10:35

I see, I can understand how popcorn could be perceived as quite rude then.

I've only been on Mumsent a few months. But even I've noticed some recurring threads. Like asking for money on wedding invitations, or bagging seats in cafes before you get food. I always pitch in and get quite worked up. Grin I've not seen any threads on Crocs yet!

Shinybits · 16/09/2012 10:47

I was reading a thread the other day 'teacher called my daughter vile' I was shocked at how many people managed to say your daughter deserved it because she sounds like a pain in the arse, in so many different ways. It started to get ott, in my opinion anyway. I agree the daughter did sound like she deserved it but did it take 80 people to repeatedly tell her. However, the op did take it well. This is just an example... Maybe it's a one off, but wow you have to have thick skin

OP posts:
GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 16/09/2012 11:07

You do have to have athick skin sometimes. I don't think there is one of us who has not been flamed to death for the most innocuous seeming threads.

Biscuit means 'no comment'. It is the most pointless emotion, if you have no comment, just fuck off. Don't post the biscuit in order to make someone feel bad. And if you have a genuine grievance with what someone has said, bloody type a response.

Popcorn is used by dullards when they think a thread will kick off. It was funny for 5 seconds about 5 years ago, bu is now (imo) overdone and bloody rude.

Booki - just read like you were slagging off a whole swathe of reg posters which wasnlt cricket really. Not that I like cricket. Oh you know what I mean Grin

germyrabbit · 16/09/2012 11:14

i take it as a sign that i ve been on here way too long and need to find somewhere else to play maybe, espcially when i read that one about jessica simpsons baby wearing a bikini top, it's just way to much like groundhog day here sometimes

EverlongYouAreGoldAndOrange · 16/09/2012 12:33

shiny that poster was a troll it would seem.

Shinybits · 16/09/2012 12:49

Really? I'm shocked. Didn't appear that trollish
