No, but you can report posters who come on just to act like an arse and goad people.

You know. Posters who act like a bit of a twat. That kind of thing.

TheGoldenKnid · 14/09/2012 20:28

So what. It isn't up to you to decide which threads are allowed on Mumsnet.

All this 'first world problems' is such nonsense. You can hardly deny that your thread is about a first world nonsense. Mumsnet would be pretty empty if only really serious threads or 'ranty and slightly tongue in cheek' threads were allowed.

deleted203 · 14/09/2012 20:29

OP was offloading. So that faceless internet strangers could say, 'Poor you. Today sounds shit', and offer a bit of sympathy. Or at least tell her that 'hey - my DH gave me the clap' and make her think, 'Oh well, at least I'm disease free'. Is there a difference between offloading and whineging, BTW? Glad you are having a good day, but is there any need to put someone else down to have one? No one's expecting miraculous or practical help here. Just a friendly message. Why not just ignore posts you think of a waste of time? No need to be unpleasant to the poster.

StealthPolarBear · 14/09/2012 20:29

Is having bills to pay a first world problem?

ChuffMuffin · 14/09/2012 20:29

Blimey skylars, what's gotten up your arse today?

2girls2dogs · 14/09/2012 20:29

Here have some wine, thing is, id rather have your first world problems, than be an idiot! You will get your FW problems sorted out, however, idiots tend to stay as idiots and type the first thing that comes into their head just to get some attention.

on a practical note (you might want to wait until you haven't had your wine) there are a few things on your list you can sort out.

Microwave - they are shite, you don't need one, i threw mine away
washing machine - whats wrong with it (google is your friend) you might be able to fix it. The same for the drain - you might be able to sort it out wiht some caustic soda. Also might be worth checking with your water company as depending on where the blockage is, it might actually be down to them to sort it out.

Talk to the tax people - come to some arrangement, i realise you have no funds but they need to be made aware so they can come to some arrangement to defer payment or pay in installments.

Im sorry you can't get a job, of course, that is the bloody crux of the matter isn't it - all of those problems wouldn;t be such an issue if you could get a job. I am in exactly the same position and its shite shite shite. What sort of job are you looking for?

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 14/09/2012 20:30

Being sympathetic to someone having a bad day has fuck all to do with ideals, it's basic manners.

If you haven't got anything helpful to say fuck off.

MNhoneydragonHQ · 14/09/2012 20:31

Oh thank fuck. I've been wondering for ages who the Queen of the Internet was. Now I know.

On a practical note. Is the washing machine fixable? I am often surprised how cheap some repairs can be, might be worth a quote?

skylarsmammy · 14/09/2012 20:31

Oh god, no wonder MNers have such a bad reputation across the interwebs. Running to the admin staff because someone doesn't agree with you. No wonder half of you moan about your kids, what hope do they have if they're being dragged up by people who 'report' (run to mummy crying about) a perfectly valid opinion on the internet. Sigh.

FoxSake · 14/09/2012 20:31

Check out skylar, the Internet police. What a fucking stupid thing to say, MN is all about the first world problems. Holy crap the stupidity.

OP I know how you feel.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 14/09/2012 20:31

Are you in rented or do you own your house OP? Might help with advice.

skylarsmammy · 14/09/2012 20:32

Me, right now...

StealthPolarBear · 14/09/2012 20:33

Who has run to admin? Or did you just completely make tat up?

ChuffMuffin · 14/09/2012 20:34

get over yourself. It's posters like you who give Mumsnetters a bad name.

BollocksToKarma · 14/09/2012 20:34

Lets see if I can help you...

my car is being written off - at least you wont have petrol, insurance and tax to pay on it until you get another.

My stairs broke - if you can take the carpet up if it's on there, have a look to see if you can repair it. It could be easier than you think.

My washing machine is broken - co-op are doing some good ones cheap, keep them in mind when you can get one...if it's still spinning, dont forget if you have to wash everything by hand, use the machine to soin the clothes, it will save your hands.

Microwave is broken - you can do without that one. It's a bit of a pain at first but you do get used to it.

Sky doesn't work properly - call them up adn tell them you are leaving, they will bend over backwards to a) get it fixed and you'll get half price sky in the bargin for 3 months if you threaten to leave saying you cant afford it.

The drain outside is blocked - Call the water board...depending on which company it is, some have taken over complete responsibilty of the drains, even the ones in your garden. If it's blocked from inside your house then you may have to get someone out, but it wont be expensive.

I have a tax bill and no funds - call them, they will put a payment plan in place for you that you can afford. They are not really that scary.

I can't get a job - you will, in time. Just try to keep your head up and be kind to yourself in the mean time.

Go to bed and get some sleep, everything will be better in the morning.

LydiasMiletus · 14/09/2012 20:34

No one gives a shit about your opinion. They give a shit that someone is having a bit of a hard time and you think its ok to be nasty.
And yes, of course knees have a bad reputation for dealing with things the way the website owners ask us to. Damn us for being grown Ups.

FoxSake · 14/09/2012 20:35

OP I suppose it depends on your mood, if you're a bit down anyway these things seem like a mountain but to be fair their is always a massive list of things wrong in this house too, they only get to me and seem worth adding up when I'm depressed.

missymoomoomee · 14/09/2012 20:35

Op its just bollocks when everything goes wrong at once, it really does feel like the whole world is against you just console yourself with the fact you aren't a completely unsympathetic arse Have a Wine and I hope things start looking up for you soon.

BobblyOrangeGoldGussets · 14/09/2012 20:36

You are horrid Skylarsmammy. I don't like you.

happybubblebrain · 14/09/2012 20:38

Hi, if the world is conspiring against you, don't worry, it will move on to someone new soon. The world will get bored of picking on you. So you can then move on with putting things right again, one problem at a time.

Problems always come in 3s, or 4s or 8s in your case. At least that way you might have times when everything is ok to balance things out a bit. Do you have friends who can help with anything?

You can certainly live without Sky and the microwave (unless you don't have a cooker) for now. Is the car essential? The blocked drain can be sorted with a pair or rubber gloves maybe? Phone the tax office and explain your situation. I'm not sure about the stairs?? Then explore every avenue for finding a job, because this is probably key to all the rest.

Sorry, I can't be more helpful than this. I really hope you get some good luck soon.

2girls2dogs · 14/09/2012 20:39

Bobbly, that is the sort of thing a 6 year old would say - yet so effective! Grin

IWishIWasSheRa · 14/09/2012 20:39

Christ, is it Friday already? Must leave this thread now because I've two little shits to drag up teach how to get ASBO's

EnjoyGOLDResponsibly · 14/09/2012 20:40

Did you really call your child Skylar?

happybubblebrain · 14/09/2012 20:40

*pair of rubber gloves.

TheWonderfulFanny · 14/09/2012 20:45

Re stairs, can you get to the back of them from an understairs cupboard? Might be possible to replace a wedge or something?
