Honey it's time to put our differences to one side, tool up and crack some skulls...

OliviaLMumsnet · 13/09/2012 23:36

Will no one think of the poor unicorns?!?

flow4 · 13/09/2012 23:37

See, I BET that though most of the gobby people commenting don't like this idea, masses and masses MORE of the silent lurkers do... Grin
And if we had a 'Like' button, we'd know, cos they'd all 'like' this comment! Wink

Olivia's "Ahem" thingy should be a bit like this.

Oh, and when ARE we getting the picture upload facility? I was all excited about it!

flow4 · 13/09/2012 23:39

Unicorns?! When did they get here?! No-one is cracking unicorn skulls, are they?! Shock

OP posts:
garlicnutty · 13/09/2012 23:40

Flow: Like :)

Olivia: Nope!

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 13/09/2012 23:40

The things about silent lurkers is, it's the internets, they can speak up. It's not Hyde Park Speakers Corner. LURKERS, hear ye hear ye, say what you want then name change if you are shy.

Nagoo · 13/09/2012 23:41

Aaaah I know you mean per post.

But I know I'd be constantly checking the admiration of my latest hilarious insight.

And don't tell me I could hide it. It's like the 'hide poster'. That would take willpower I do not possess, I would need to know what dicklish thing someone said to fuel my disdain Grin

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 13/09/2012 23:42

I like unicorns. They're very tasty. And you can use the horn as a toothpick.

Nagoo · 13/09/2012 23:42

garlic you can upload pics in certain topics look here

Nagoo · 13/09/2012 23:42

daddyman you must be impressively large.

flow4 · 13/09/2012 23:42

See, you'd've had a 'like' from me for that one, MrsTCO :)
Doesn't that feel gooooooood?! Grin

OP posts:
garlicnutty · 13/09/2012 23:43

Usual: Yeah LBE ,I'm crap at flouncing

Like!

You owe me one, flouncer.

Nagoo · 13/09/2012 23:43

silent lurkers have no say.

They can only blame themselves.

LadyBeagleEyes · 13/09/2012 23:43

Lurkers should just post then, surely.
We were all lurkers once.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 13/09/2012 23:46

Nagoo my modesty prevents me from discussing that Wink

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 13/09/2012 23:46

Get it off me, get it off me. Aaaarrrggghhh I'm covered in flow's sticky Like.

garlicnutty · 13/09/2012 23:47

Oh, am most excited, Nagoo.

But not enough ... A message board just for pictures isn't a whole lotta different from adding pictures to your profile, is it.

I can see why MNHQ wouldn't want every thread larded with images, I guess - but they're only allowing little ones, aren't they? 'Twould be very difficult to make it look like netmums a badly-decorated Christmas tree with tiny stills.

flow4 · 13/09/2012 23:49

"silent lurkers have no say". Pfft. That's representative democracy buggered then, innit? Shall I tell the prime minister? Wink
Oops, sorry, I've gone All Political there, haven't I?! I'll stop right now

It can really increase clique-y-ness, if you know what I mean.

Or maybe it's more that people can become more retrenched in their views. You start to realise very clearly who you usually agree with and who you don't - much more quickly and clearly and repeatedly than one can now.

On other forums I've seen people become quite childish. Their opinions are less flexible, less open to debate. They just have their 'gang' and they'll be damned if they'll be polite to someone from the opposing 'gang', no matter how eloquent their argument.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 14/09/2012 00:07

Retrenched? Entrenched.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 14/09/2012 00:17

Silent Lurkers can have their say any time they want, but they shouldn't be pandered to with something like this. They are choosing to excercise their lurkerishness, that's democracy. I say this as a 90% lurker.
Surely the worst thing about a "like" button is you don't know who has liked your post. Could be all the posters you admire and respect or could be a bunch of people who never post and you don't know if you give a toss about what they think or not.

garlicnutty · 14/09/2012 00:23

On the forums that use thanks, you can see who thanked a post. You have to click on a link.

I just think it would be nice to express agreement, without having to post all that YY malarkey. Some threads have whole pages of everybody applauding an earlier post - which is all very lovely, but time consuming.

flow4 · 14/09/2012 00:26

Exactly, nutty :)
