To wonder if it's ever ok to wear hot pants on the school run?

That's it really, SIL wore denim ones today. Our children go to the same school and I was quite surprised at her choice of attire for my nieces first day. I can't imagine my mother ever turning up in a pair of teeny tiny shorts at school. It was a bit weird.

Well yeah of course it's ok! It's a simple matter of taste, and when it comes to taste, the majority actually don't call the shots...and neither should they.

It takes all sorts.

jellybeans · 13/09/2012 09:54

there is a mum at DC school who wears those shorts where you butt cheeks hang out the sides. She has good figure but it looked abit 'slutty' for school showing half your ass. Shorts is fine-even short ones. But ass skimming ones is too nightclubby IMO.

Lueji · 13/09/2012 09:59

I'd be more worried about pjs, or a teacher in hotpants.

Although, at primary school it's less of an issue.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/09/2012 09:59

It's never ok to have the crease where your legs join your arse on show.

Lueji · 13/09/2012 10:00

Not even on the beach, saggy?

mindosa · 13/09/2012 10:01

Depends on the legs really !

Lets just say that it wouldnt be appropriate for me to wear hot pants on the school run

panicnotanymore · 13/09/2012 10:02

Why not! It gave the rest of you something to talk about. I like people who don't give a sh*t about acceptable mum behaviour. I bet she is a laugh.

MarshaBrady · 13/09/2012 10:02

Ds has just left a school where anything goes. But in a good way. I really miss the variety.

Ds2 will be there properly soon, tg.

BigRedCheeks · 13/09/2012 10:06

I wouldn't want my dd's to wear anything like that! You don't have to behave in a boring way being a mum. I get dressed up on a night out, just don't want to see that after my breakfast in the morning!

Well the beach isn't the same. Is it. You're meant to wear a bikini or costume.would you go out in a bikini?

BigRedCheeks · 13/09/2012 10:09

I wouldn't inflict me in a bikini on anyone!

Lovecat · 13/09/2012 10:11

The mother of a friend of DD's often drops her off wearing full slap, thigh-high white vinyl platform boots and a mini-mac fastened in such a way as to suggest she doesn't have much on beneath it. She's about my size but shorter (I'm a 16, she's about 4 ft).

However, as I tend to look like I've been pulled through a hedge, I don't judge, just wonder how she has the time!

BigRedCheeks · 13/09/2012 10:14

Wow that's quite a look! I am not judging either I just wondered if I am a bit of a prude. Am not particularly close to SIL but I don't want my kids to see her bum either! I am not sure if she even realises how revealing they are.

OP posts:
Lueji · 13/09/2012 10:18

You said never, saggy, not specifically on the city or on the school run.

pictish · 13/09/2012 10:20

Stop worrying about it. It's her bum, her life, her choice.

Lueji · 13/09/2012 10:23

I don't want my kids to see her bum either!

So, you've never been to the local swimming pool?

DS has seen a lot more than a bum in the ladies changing room. :o

I bet the kids were the least bothered.

BigRedCheeks · 13/09/2012 10:29

Lueji- That's in a changing room, bit different! Am not worried about it, each to their own it's just my preference Grin

It's never ok to have the crease where your legs join your arse on show. Except on the beach or by the pool or in a swimwear related situation. Grin

Springisoutthere · 13/09/2012 11:05

Ha ha, Now Op you will know this is me, if I mention the sight I get to see, a man with a tatoo that reads: Made in England, with his D.O.B!, I'm not sure if I am more disturbed by that or that he is 11 years younger than me Grin and I don't want to see your SIL's cheeks either Wink

ENormaSnob · 13/09/2012 11:12

I'm with saggy Grin

BigRedCheeks · 13/09/2012 11:14

Grin Hello Mrs Spring! I am sure there are other things we should be doing! Wink

Does mumsnetting sort of count as work?

OP posts:
achillea · 13/09/2012 11:16

I'm a prude and proud. I too remember the 70s and those teachers in mini skirts, hotpants and babydoll dresses. Not to mention the male teachers with tight lurid nylon trousers. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. Clothes as a form of expression or rebellion is fine, but when your sexy bits are all anyone sees about you it is just tacky, there is no statement or any depth to it.

I blame the Sun, and Peaches Geldoff.

cbeebiesinducedcoma · 13/09/2012 11:19

Is she single trying to get some school gate action?

Arses are not for public view next time tell her if you want to glare down a crack you'd join the cast of the human centipede , may make her cover up lol.

Icky!

Springisoutthere · 13/09/2012 11:21

I hope mumsnet sort of counts as work Grin I wonder if they would mind me wearing hotpants to work, they are quite lax on attire!...mmm maybe not, that would scare the builders across the road.
