To wonder if it's ever ok to wear hot pants on the school run?

That's it really, SIL wore denim ones today. Our children go to the same school and I was quite surprised at her choice of attire for my nieces first day. I can't imagine my mother ever turning up in a pair of teeny tiny shorts at school. It was a bit weird.

At our school, doubt the menz will notice. They all look spaced out and/or grumpy at having been made encouraged to do the school run. I DID notice some hot pants around on Mon, but the mums were so petite they all looked like Year 5s. Not outright sexy, iyswim... But hotpants are still odd.

C'mon, fess up. Most of us notice what others wear, even in passing. Once I wore a bright yellow mac and another parent did a double take. Now I want to just wear something bland and not stand out. You do not experiment on the school run.. Sad

Bit cold for hot pants at the moment, isn't it? They must be showing something off.

bulletwithbutterflywings · 13/09/2012 09:11

I would wear hot pants on the school run, if that's what I was planning to wear for the rest of the day, Why would I change just to do the school run? Weird.
It's definitely not a bit cold for hot pants round here! It's been 25 degrees this past week.

AnnoyingOrange · 13/09/2012 09:20

Mu hot pant days are long gone, but I really don't care what anyone wears on the school run. It's just dropping off your kids before getting on with your day

achillea · 13/09/2012 09:20

I guess if Peaches Geldoff can wear them, and high heels, and let her baby roll out of her buggy onto the pavement, and come out of it with national sympathy, your SIL might just get away with wearing hotpants

Bonsoir · 13/09/2012 09:24

Anything and everything is possible at DD's school. Strapless pale pink silk satin Chanel corset dress for sitting in the park? Transparent vest over new boob job? Rotating fur coats and Hermès bags? We've seen it all Grin

ENormaSnob · 13/09/2012 09:24

Not if your sil is the women I saw in hot pants yesterday. She had v thin/see through tights on underneath? About a size 22?

It was not a good look.

LilBlondePessimist · 13/09/2012 09:28

I've spent this whole week in short denim shorts, a vest and thongs, including the school run, AND shocker, I'm five months pg. however, it's never been cooler than 25? here, and other than my preggy belly I don't really look out of place. I have, however, had scraped up hair and no makeup Blush as we're moving house today so feckin stressed out of my head I don't mind what anyone wears really. Ps. NO bum cheek on show!!

catwoo · 13/09/2012 09:33

Not if that's something she was planning to wear that for the rest of the day.i don't get this whole dressing for the school run thing? To me it just entails shoving little miss in at the gate in the morning, and dragging her out again in the pm.I am not out to impress anyone

bogeyface · 13/09/2012 09:33

There is a difference between shorts and hotpants imo.

Shorts cover everything, hotpants dont. There were a couple of teenagers wearing them earlier in the week and I was a bit Hmm because you could see their bum cheeks (only noticed as I thought "Blimey, they must be freezing!"). I have pants that cover more than that!

I dont think walking into the school yard with your arse out is acceptable tbh.

Fakebook · 13/09/2012 09:34

Was she wearing tights underneath? Or bare bum? God she could get piles in this weather!

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 13/09/2012 09:36

yes we not if its hot and you have nice legs. i would if i had the legs and was younger. i used to wear them with tights

some of the lycra outfits i have seen in the school playground are far more revealing and not often in a flattering way

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 13/09/2012 09:41

Oh yh my hot pants don't show bum cheek that's never a good look!

BigRedCheeks · 13/09/2012 09:41

There is nothing with short, shorts whatever your size. The hot pants were TINY another matter altogether and yes bare arse on display that's what I think is a bit yuk! Blush

Hot pants or denim shorts?

There are small shorts at my school, they look fine. Hot pants, no haven't seen any of those.

MarshaBrady · 13/09/2012 09:49

Oh just your post, yes hot pants a different league.

BigRedCheeks · 13/09/2012 09:49

Goldminger · 13/09/2012 09:52

It's fine but not if you have big red toilet seat ring marks visible as one mum on the school run once did Grin
