to feel that the shop assistants in Morissons

Supermarkets are less than polite. I find the staff in Sainsbury's are much better.

I have shopped weekly at Morissons since January as I love it there for the food, prices etc

YABU. I work at Morrisons and always strive to be polite and helpful, even when my customers are being incredbly rude to me. Stop making rubbish and unhelpful generalizations.

Ah! So now they add water to the loose vegetables (see carrots in the video) to ensure that we pay for the weight of water as well as our vegetables!

You sound lovely, littlemisssunny, because you always try to go the extra mile. But do M&S train you to go the extra mile? Because I get the impression M&S don't.

It seems to me really noticeable that food staff there NEVER day "I'll show you" and move with you to the aisle you're looking for, and the checkout staff ALWAYS start pinging through the next person's shopping before you've got yourself organised.

Our town morrisons is lovely. the staff are great. the one in the city is rubbish though.

All the Morrisons I've been to the staff have been lovely and friendly. Especially the Gainsborough one.

Ours are lovely, though there is one who likes to choose their own order of scanning your purchases: you have carefully put all the dairy things together, dried goods etc, but this particular check-out person reaches over sections of the conveyor belt and selects the items they want to check next, and mess up our orderly purchases. Mentioning that you want them in the order you put them in doesn't get a very good response.

Our Morrisons staff are the nicest you could get. I often travel there even though it's further than the nearest supermarket.

Now the staff at the local Tesco, they, generally are a bunch of arses. I actively avoid going there as whenever I do I come out wanting to weep or kill one of them usually the middle aged women who act like you are a major inconvenience just by being there

A female member of staff was outraged and shocked when they were asking for money to buy doughnuts. I had just finished work and took a rage. They were both completely off their faces and a bit intimidating.

Morrison's frozen veg is really good.

Morrisons and Tesco seem to employ rude, grumpy fuckers. Asda staff seem extraterrestrially chipper, like they're on drugs. Sainsbugs are ok. Our local Aldi girls are sweethearts, and the chaps in our local Lidl are very nice and always helpful.

Once, I went to Waitrose and got shouted at by the checkout lady for not liking Charlotte Church. That was weird.

I find the staff in our morrisons very rude, but the staff in our aldi absolutely lovely. One packed my bags for me the other day ( had a hand basket) I told him not to worry, but he carried on anyway :)

A lot must depend on the manager of the store. The staff in the local Asda are unfailingly polite and helpful - even the cleaning staff seem to know where everything is on the shelves! Staff in the Tesco Metro and Express locally are not so good but the staff of a larger Tesco are excellent. In Aldi and Lidl I manage to find items by abandoning my shopping list

thesurgeonsmate believe it or not we are supposed to take the customer to the aisle and show them, and wait for the customer to get sorted before moving on. It's 2 of the things mystery shoppers look for.

By going the extra mile I mean things like when a customer asks for a certain dish eg risotto but we don't have the specific one they like in a range I show them other ranges/options, little things like that.

Sounds a bit pathetic but I like to think the customer goes away happy, not just thinking I did something because it's my job but because I genuinely want to give them good service, something I think most shops severely lack these days.

Morrisons sausage rolls, pies, cake and fresh bread fresh fish and meat are far superior to Sainsbo. Also their salad is still fresh by the time you get it home.

Our staff are pleasant. I wish they had a big Queue Here Finger like Asda though.

In my local brand new shiny Morrisons - complete with misty salad counter - the staff are superb; chatty, efficient and helpful.

There is also a Chris? on the fags and mags counter. He is the Alan Carr of supermarket-dom. All the ladies with tartan trolleys love Chris - he is rotund, bespectacled, risque and as camp as Clary. He has no fears about wearing a tabard.

I think Morrisons introduced the Chris? into their stores a few years ago - they have become a popular addition to the overall shopping experience.

I was in Morrison's the other day with an 8 yr old and a 13 yr old when they decided they wanted some kind of fruity snack that I'd never heard of. They stopped a member of staff, gave him a really rubbish description and he led them around the shop until they found exactly what they wanted. I was impressed. (I'm easily pleased)

re: the being taken to the aisle when you have asked the whereabouts of something....I hate that for some reason.

If I have to ask I always add "you don't have to show me, just tell me which aisle and what its next to and I'll find it".

It happened in Waitrose the other day but the young man insisted on taking me there "as its difficult to find even when you're looking for it"

Norbert youll probably find its because we are told to do it so people are paranoid about not doing it in case they get into trouble! I try to use discretion and when people say oh it's ok I shall go myself let them, because I know a mystery shopper wouldn't do that, they are checking that you offer to take them.

Norbert I don't like it that much, either, but I just really notice that M&S staff say things like "with the tinned stuff?" where staff in other supermarkets leap to their feet with an air of "Action This Day."

I'm not a mystery shopper, either! littlemisssunny I think you're right that customers will notice that you have done extra to try and assist.

Do you know what I always like? When someone checking out my stuff asks about something and says they'll try it! It feels as if they're taking an interest not just in me but also in their own product range.
