To be thrilled that winter is coming?

Today is the first of Sept, and for me that meant a drastic spring clean - everything out cleaned bleached etc, skirting all clean, literally everything done.

That may not seem like a reason to be proud but i am 22W Pg with DC2, and feel really proud of myself for bothering to do it.

Sept also means the drawing in of winter, im looking forward to winter clothes snuggly uggs and hot choc of an eve. Im also looking forward to the possibility that we will have a nice sunny sept / oct. I'm looking forward to DS1s birthday in oct, seeing Sarah Millican in Oct, finishing work In Nov, and meeting DC2 in Dec, enjoying christmas, DP and my own birthdays, our wedding in may.. For me this all starts with toasty winter nights!

So AIBU to genuinely feel thrilled at the change of seasons? And what are you all looking forwards to?

Lighthearted to combat the craziness thats occuring ATM

I'm looking forward to Halloween! I love that holiday! A holiday where DS can be as scary as he likes haha.

Yama · 01/09/2012 16:36

YANBU

I am looking forward to winter clothes (not uggs though) and having no pressure to be outside. Saying that I am looking forward to long wintery walks along the beach with the low sun followed by beef stew and red wine.

No need for housework though, let's not go overboard.

WorraLiberty · 01/09/2012 16:37

YANBU

The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the bloody gas bill though

SecretCermonials · 01/09/2012 16:38

YABU!!!!

Autumnis a fantastic season, that hasn't really even begun properly yet.

Why are you wishing it away for Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar? Is the world going mad?

BlingBubbles · 01/09/2012 16:40

I do love summer but there is something special about autumn and winter, especially the lead up to Christmas, it's so festive. Bring on the cold

SecretCermonials · 01/09/2012 16:40

Yama no red wine for me but rose and archers once DC2 is here! Oh sunset winter beach walks sound divine!

Worra eek yes the dreaded bills we have invested in extra heaters this year, so will be toaaasty!

I'm still waiting for summer.

SecretCermonials · 01/09/2012 16:41

Edith my excitement spans all the months, starting mainly in Oct but rest assured no autumnal or winter month shall be scorned Grin

I love winter for the following reasons:
Cardigans - no more having to expose the public to my wibble wobble underarms!
Boots - no more having to keep toe nails painted for sandal wearing purposes.
Dark mornings - please, please let DD be tricked into thinking it's not really morning till at least 7.00am.

catwoo · 01/09/2012 16:44

..not having to cut the lawn

Shazjack1 · 01/09/2012 16:46

Love the fact that the nights are getting darker, putting the heating on, wearing my winter coat and making lentil and bacon soup. I'm getting excited for Christmas already , this is my favourite time of year whilst everyone around me is thoroughly miserable and moaning that's it's getting chilly.

Sephy · 01/09/2012 16:46

Boots and scarves, and lovely Autumn oranges, browns and purples... Fireworks for Guy Fawkes! Still get a bit nostalgically excited when I see shiny conkers too, memories of scrabbling round the massive horse chestnut at primary school to get the best ones...

sittinginthesun · 01/09/2012 16:47

I love Autumn, 'specially the clothes, red wine, lazy evenings of board games, lead up to Christmas...

But - summer didn't really start here until second week of the holidays. That's 5 weeks. In my head, it should be May to September.

I feel cheated!Grin

GiserableMitt · 01/09/2012 16:48

I love winter but only because I live in the Middle East and the temperature ranges from 30 down to low 20's and we spend most of our time outside.

cozietoesie · 01/09/2012 16:49

I love winter. Dark nights with rain - but sitting snug by the fire, lights outside sparkling, the smokey smell, hot comforting food: best time of year all round.

roundtable · 01/09/2012 16:51

Summer seems to have missed me!

I like the anticipation of winter/Christmas more than the reality I think. I absolutely hate Jan/Feb time. It just seems to drag, everyone's spent their money on Christmas, there's nothing to look forward to at all for ages. Bleurgh.

I think they should but a bank holiday in those months to cheer everyone up.

Secondsop · 01/09/2012 16:51

I feel exactly the same. Poss because my baby is due in December, but I don't think it's just that. I felt a real feeling of excitement and anticipation when I woke up yesterday and there was a bit of a cold snap in the air.

SecretCermonials · 01/09/2012 16:52

Ohh cozie good point I love listening to rain, and love making a nice stew and dumplings (or dumpys as DS calls them) and feeling that they are needed, essential winter nourishment nom nom! not sure that extends to marshmallows in hot choc but its worth a go?!

SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 16:59

YABU because we don't appear to have had summer yet and I am pissed off about it.

mumsknots · 01/09/2012 17:00

I love that smell in the air that comes with autumn. Hearing the Canadian geese fly over and the cool but crisp days.

molepom · 01/09/2012 17:04

I'm loving it!

Autumn and Winter are the best seasons and it hasn't even started properly yet. I cant wait.

The colours, the smells, the longer nights, the cozyness, hearty stews, comfort food, crumbles, pies, getting up in the morning with the heating on, or waking up early knowing its cold out there and you are cocooned all cozy like in your big warm bed...and then CHRISTMAS and if I'm a really good girl....SNOW and loads of it.

StopEatingThatMud · 01/09/2012 17:12

Another autumn/winter lover here. For all the reasons already listed.

I can't wait to take dd jumping in puddles now she's big enough, so looking forward to wellie shopping, dp thinks I'm mad!

storminabuttercup · 01/09/2012 17:13

I love the cooking in the winter

And not having to shave my legs

SecretCermonials · 01/09/2012 17:18

Glad so many agree! This will age me but as soon as the leaves start to turn the beautiful shade of red my head chimes in with that hymn "autumn days when the grass is jewelled and the silk inside a chestnut shell" Grin

Im not sure I want snow (purely cos' o the logistics of being huge / recovering from a section in snow) but everything else is good!

Ohh and for all you sun worshippers we may yet have some sun like last year, just teamed with gorgeous crisp nights Grin
