To be thrilled that winter is coming?

Today is the first of Sept, and for me that meant a drastic spring clean - everything out cleaned bleached etc, skirting all clean, literally everything done.

That may not seem like a reason to be proud but i am 22W Pg with DC2, and feel really proud of myself for bothering to do it.

Sept also means the drawing in of winter, im looking forward to winter clothes snuggly uggs and hot choc of an eve. Im also looking forward to the possibility that we will have a nice sunny sept / oct. I'm looking forward to DS1s birthday in oct, seeing Sarah Millican in Oct, finishing work In Nov, and meeting DC2 in Dec, enjoying christmas, DP and my own birthdays, our wedding in may.. For me this all starts with toasty winter nights!

So AIBU to genuinely feel thrilled at the change of seasons? And what are you all looking forwards to?

Lighthearted to combat the craziness thats occuring ATM

Oh that was my absolute favourite hymn at school and I'd forgotten all about it!

Thanks for the reminder :)

Signet2012 · 01/09/2012 17:32

I love autumn and winter. This year I'm off work due my first baby last week (better hurry up) I'm getting all excited for dark nights, bubble baths, snuggles with the baby and walking with her in her pram in all weathers as I hate walking in the heat. Looking forward to our first Xmas as a family even though we can't afford to buy presents.
Looking forward to being able to wrap up warm and get out and about after a summer of being too hot and having SPd. Looking forward to casseroles in the slow cooker!!! Ahh I'm just looking forward to it all. Even though I have not a penny to my name im just happily content at the moment Grin long may it last!!

ENormaSnob · 01/09/2012 17:37

I adore autumn and winter.

I love everything about them.

SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 17:39

I'm not actually a sun worshiper... I would just have liked to be warm and dry this summer!

LadySybildeChocolate · 01/09/2012 17:40

Winter is already here! {hugs hot chocolate}

SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 17:42

I do actually like Autumn... but only when I fell I've had a taste of the other seasons too.

ElectricSoftParade · 01/09/2012 17:45

I love the summer but my favourite time of year has to be autumn.

For the past two days I have forced taken the DCs blackberry picking. I get slightly obsessed with the picking. We have just finished last year's harvest!

Having the fire on, wearing boots and scarves, stews and the lovely smells of bonfires. Lovely.

CatPower · 01/09/2012 17:47

Kayano, I love you for thinking it was a GoT post too! Grin

I absolutely LOVE autumn and winter and hate summer with a vengeance. I love feeling the crisp autumn chill in the air, the leaves turning gold, the nights getting longer, the sheer joy that is a new bum-covering coat...!

BadLad · 01/09/2012 17:51

I hate the short days of winter - can't see why anyone would not love the blue skies and daylight until 10pm that summer brings.

On the other hand, I love seeing women people in winter clothes, and the football season starts to get interesting around December.

And, of course, there's CHRISTMAS

SecretCermonials · 01/09/2012 17:52

Im glad other people are having babies in winter DS was a winter baby and so will this one be, i love/d bundling them up all squidgy and warm Grin

Ohh I also love that its pickling time.. We grow veg in the garden and all our unused crop gets pickled ready for christmas in Sept! This year I have beetroot, red onions, shallots, chillis, peppers, toms, carrots and am very much looking forward to picklings and soups nom nom! Grin

BadLad don't come to Newcastle - the women don't do winter clothes... Or coats Wink

lovemykaygees · 01/09/2012 17:55

Chunky cardis, coloured tights, big boots, hats and mitts, SCARVES and no pressure to expose my West of Scotland pale blue skin. What's not to love about the Winter coming?

Yama · 01/09/2012 17:57

Aaaand ... I have lovely memories from when I was on mat leave and dd was in Primary 1. We would battle through the wind and rain to get home after school and have hot chocolate with marshmallows and snuggle up and watch Scooby Do. At those moments I genuinely thought I could happily give up work.

spiderlight · 01/09/2012 17:58

I love it too! Big fluffy fleeces and boots and DS looking adorable in woolly hats and gloves on elastic. Waking up all snug and wondering if it's snowed in the night. Adventures with the dogs in darkening parks. The first frost, the first morning when you can see your breath - love it! Going out collecting chestnuts and filling the trailer of his pedal tractor is always a highlight of this time of year and he looks forward to it all summer. Am just choosing his new winter coat now :o

BadLad · 01/09/2012 18:05

Kayano, I saw that in a Daily Mail article recently. Lots of photos of nightclubbers wearing T-shirts in snowy weather.

I am just the same, however - winter here is freezing, but still I set out in short-sleeves and no jacket. Or, at least, I did until wifey told me it made me look mentally ill.

This made my mother sigh and wish she had thought of saying that when I was a nipper.

Arabellasmella · 01/09/2012 18:08

Yabu. Personally I've been going into a decline since the longest day and the feelings of despair are getting worse daily. Sept-march are awful. I'd emIgrate if it wasn't for the joy of those light summer nights.

Anonymumous · 01/09/2012 18:20

Clearly there are not many Mums here with three hours of walking to school and back to do every day. I am dreading it. I need warmth and sunshine, not cold and wind and rain for months on end!

SoleSource · 01/09/2012 18:27

Yabu gor lining that Sarah's pockeys. I wish someone would shoot her lol

Foshizzle · 01/09/2012 18:29

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It is very easy to romanticise Autumn and Winter but the novelty quickly wears off IMO. I hate the constant darkness, the heating bills, the rain, the slimy wet dirt that you get in a commuter train when everyone is damp and hot with layers and the windows are steamed up and filthy, I hate the constant colds and other illnesses and having to entertain two toddlers when your limited options involve minging germy soft play.

I will miss just wandering down to the park with DC, a blanket, snacks and a ball and wandering back home in the warm sun.

YA so BU.

treaclesoda · 01/09/2012 18:33

As I see it, it has been freezing cold and has rained for most of the summer anyway. In fact, that's what most summers are like where I live. The last time I remember a proper summer was when I was a student, so that would be mid 1990s. So, for that reason, I welcome the proper autumn and winter weather. At least that way we can just get on with it. Hats, scarves, gloves, being frozen on the walk home from school but coming in to a nice warm house for a cuddle on the sofa and a warm drink. Bring it on, I say. Even though when the clocks change, it will get dark around 4pm when during the summer it stays light until 11pm or later. Now I must admit I hate that bit of it...
