To be thrilled that winter is coming?

Today is the first of Sept, and for me that meant a drastic spring clean - everything out cleaned bleached etc, skirting all clean, literally everything done.

That may not seem like a reason to be proud but i am 22W Pg with DC2, and feel really proud of myself for bothering to do it.

Sept also means the drawing in of winter, im looking forward to winter clothes snuggly uggs and hot choc of an eve. Im also looking forward to the possibility that we will have a nice sunny sept / oct. I'm looking forward to DS1s birthday in oct, seeing Sarah Millican in Oct, finishing work In Nov, and meeting DC2 in Dec, enjoying christmas, DP and my own birthdays, our wedding in may.. For me this all starts with toasty winter nights!

So AIBU to genuinely feel thrilled at the change of seasons? And what are you all looking forwards to?

Lighthearted to combat the craziness thats occuring ATM

Yat for winter. Fleece sweater and boots are my favorites.
Dd is looking forward to wearing her new pink rubber boots with furry lining Grin

I love Autumn but so feel cheated this year with the lack of summer. The months of rain have not given me any summer fix at all and I hate that the nights are getting shorter already with so few chances for sitting out in the summer evenings this year. I just don't feel ready yet.

baconbutty · 01/09/2012 22:29

AND A WIN FOR MY HOME TEAM OH I MUSTN'T FORGET.......!

EmmananaOrangeandGold · 01/09/2012 22:38

I love it! Due to work timings DH and I can take all our annual leave in one go, so we always go away in mid November for 5/6 weeks. So when the nights draw in, I know it's holiday time again! 9 weeks and counting!

CatPower · 01/09/2012 23:54

Strictly, Doctor Who, Question Time, Casualty, X Factor, British Bake Off... Autumn/Winter is fantastic!

Bimblepops · 02/09/2012 00:10

YABU - hush! It's still summer, because we're going to have a glorious Indian Summer...at some point...one day...please

Darkesteyeswithflecksofgold · 02/09/2012 00:46

I LOVE autumn and winter. I HATE summer cos i dont like being hot. The humidity bothers me as much as the heat does. I have a thing for winter coats (idont really do high fashion shoes.) love switching from brighter lipsticks to more sophisticated sheer reds and darkish toffee colours (not too dark as i have small lips and i only do sheer reds on my lips as i find a matt red too full on.) when they start showing the odd horror film or crime thriller on tv you know its autumn and hot choc (i love the Options white hot chocolate and toasty socks and seeing the christmas lights start to be switched on. I love it and i love Christmas.

BurlingtonBertieFromBow · 02/09/2012 00:53

YANBU I love the smells

FarrowAndBollock · 02/09/2012 01:08

HATE winter. I usually feel a bit low in winter - I need the sun.

BrittaPerry · 02/09/2012 01:41

Kayano - I thought it was GoT too, I was all geared up for dragons and boobs :-)

Also, if you are in the NE, on MN and like GoT, you must be cool. Do I know you?

Also, winterfell is Durham, right? Up north, cold, near a wall, historically semi separate from down south... Totally.

Winter. Is. Coming.

Signet2012 · 02/09/2012 02:04

I'm not far from Newcastle and I don't think I have ever owned a winter coat. Smile
I'd probably get mugged for it if I did round my Way but still. Wink

The second day of spring here in Australia, and the sun has got his hat on. One thing I do miss about the UK weather is the long springs and autumns to wear lovely mid-weight clothes. It's all a bit SUDDEN here; the moment the sun's out it's hot, and time for the less flattering summer wear, or, if not that, then a cardi is quickly too warm, and you're left not knowing what to wear.

CheerfulYank · 02/09/2012 02:18

I thought it was Game of Thrones as well and I was all set to talk Tyrion and Sansa and how I do not care if anyone else thinks it's weird, I WILL GO DOWN WITH THAT 'SHIP.

Blush

But anyway, I am so excited for the season change! I love autumn and winter, even though I live in Minnesota and can always expect freezing temps and lots and lots of snow. Bring it! :)

MaMattoo · 02/09/2012 02:37

YANBU at all. I too am waiting for the cold and windy days. With the winter scent in the air, crunching leaves and steaming faces.
I love winters!!!

TroublesomeEx · 02/09/2012 07:43

YANBU.

I'm waiting for the children to go back to school now. I'm just itching to do my Autumn Cleaning!

I love the autumn and winter too - boots, thick tights, corduroy skirts and polo neck jumpers.

Berry colours, kicking the leaves and the smell in the park. The smell!

I'm getting all excited now just thinking about it!

NoillyPrat · 02/09/2012 07:50

YANBU. I love autumn and winter. Wrapping up warm and cosy. I am SO excited to wear boots, thick tights, scarves, hats and gloves.

Walks on the frosty ground and seeing my breath. Dark cosy nights, with a fire burning and drinking red wine. Eating stew and dumplings.

I love all the events. Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas.

I cannot wait until it's cold!

Colyngbourne · 02/09/2012 08:05

I thought GoT too, and am in the NE.
but Winterfell, for me, is Middleham Castle in Wensleydale because there are 101 similarities between Ned Stark's story and that of Richard III (probably intentional from GRRM). Most of his elements of RIII are in Ned but also are in Stannis and Tyrion.

Kayano · 02/09/2012 08:10

Ha I hope no one knows
Me, I bare my bitchy soul on MN daily lol.

GoldenPeppermintCreams · 02/09/2012 08:17

YANBU

Autumn has always been my favourite season. Back to school, and the anticipation of snow and Christmas and the smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces.

Fantastic!

Natnat29 · 02/09/2012 08:57

Me too! I love the whole run up to Xmas- bonfire night, Halloween And my due date is Jan so every minute closer I'm getting more and more excited! :)

DontmindifIdo · 02/09/2012 09:05

I love a proper summer, but I dont feel like we've had one this year, it's just a bit uneventful. so I want winter - I want to go buy new boots, stop painting toe nails - I suit wintery clothes.

I like not being hot and sticky on the commute to work, I like putting my make up on and not feeling like I've already sweated it off before I get anywhere.

I love Autumnal food, I love hot stews with the fire going. I adore Christmas.

I don't like that you have to do stuff with a toddler in Autumn, just going to the park doesn't work in the rain. This year, however, I'm determined to be organised and plan things...

mmmmmchocolate · 02/09/2012 09:20

Yay! I'm so excited! 2 of my autumns over the last few years have been ruined with constant pregnancy sickness. In fact up until 2011, the thought of Christmas would turn my stomach :( weirdo

DD's are sat by the fire this morning in full length pyjamas! Love it!

My slowcooker is on order and school starts in a couple of days! Wedding is a few months away and then it's CHRISTMAS!!!!

ipswichwitch · 02/09/2012 10:39

I love this time of year- eating proper wintery comfort food, hot chocolate, snuggling up with a nice cup of tea (and packet of biscuits!) as I just can't drink tea when it's hot.
I love winter clothes and the fact I can just get dresses without having to spend ages rummaging about my summer wardrobe, agonising over what to wear that doesn't make me look fat/too hot and sweaty. Winter clothes are v flattering imo!
Last year was fab- DS was born in October and I had a great time. I even miss the many night feeds and sitting trying to wind him at 3 am listening to the rain/wind outside while I was cosy and getting lovely snuggly cuddles off DS. Sigh..

lubeybooby · 02/09/2012 10:42

I love Winter!

Autumn not so great though, it always ends up being hot and it's when the worst of the wasps are about, urgh.
