To never ever set foot in Sainsbury's because I detest Jamie Oliver, his gormless smug grin and mockney ways.

I explained to a couple who are friends of mine that I will never set foot in Sainbury's because they use Jamie Oliver in their marketing. I think he's a smug, annoying git who needs a slap to wipe that gormless grin off his face who thinks a bit too much of himself, and basically I don't think he should be encouraged.

He may have campaigned for healthier school meals, but that just gives him extra reasons to be smug. I don't care if Sainbury's is more 'ethical' or 'middle class'. I'm never shopping in their because of 'that man' and his family are just as annoying.

AIBU to feel this way?

PS, I just take a real dislike to certain people, and I feel the same way about JK Rowling, Sting and Julia Bradbury.

Are they now doing a line in kids clothes? There was a mugshot of them and Thistle Daphne, Wortweed Delilah, Tangleweed Tallulah and Buddy Bear (who could improve on that?) with a headline about Jools not caring if one of their kids had the same name as a my little pony. They looked like they were in the clothes section of Mothercare and the girls were wearing very... 'Designer-mom' clothes.

ouryve · 31/08/2012 19:06

I can think of more valid reasons for avoiding particular supermarkets, like their stocks of ethically sourced produce, the way they treat their suppliers, or the way they use workfare to make up staff numbers instead of paying people for the work they do for them.

But if you want to not buy something from a supermarket because you don't like a person who USED TO advertise for them, then why should I give a hoot?

Otherworld · 31/08/2012 19:10

I like Jamie. And Heston. But neither of them make me more or less likely to shop in Sainsburys or Waitrose.

If Flintoff was likely to be cruising the aisles in my closest Morrisons it'd be worth the 70 mile round trip however.

TheCrackFox · 31/08/2012 19:12

Was that in Red magazine? Jools was droning on about how Jamie's fame impacted on their children (fair enough) but once I turned the page I was greeted with a two page spread of the children modelling her new range for Mothercare. Hypocritical, much?

Oh, and she also droned on about how hard it was being a SAHM with a nanny and housekeeper. She doesn't have a fucking clue.

NotYouNaanBread · 31/08/2012 19:17

I liked JO until he addressed me as "sister" in a tweet & told me that it was okay that his fish fingers are riddled with salt because they're "adult" fish fingers. WTF?

Caerlaverock · 31/08/2012 19:22

Roar @ sister, ok he is a twat

LesleyPumpshaft · 31/08/2012 19:23

You know where he can stick his salty fish fingers. Angry

NellyJob, while I am glad that you have found this thread amusing, I can assure you that his cuntery is no laughing matter!

are you related then?

bruschetta · 31/08/2012 19:28

I don't know whether YABU or not but I don't care because you made me smile.
(Even though I usually shop in Sainsbury's - sorry)

Badgersnatch · 31/08/2012 19:28

What's the wasp story? If it will make me want to hate him even more I really want to hear it.

Bit gutted Lesley that the Per Una cooties will have tainted the fizzy wine, Percy Pigs and asparagus, truffle and parmesan ponce-crisps (balanced diet)

gamerwidow · 31/08/2012 19:29

OP you would get on well with my DH. He has covered all pictures of Jamie Oliver in my copies of his cook books with gaffer tape so he doesn't have to see his 'fat smug face' .

Caerlaverock · 31/08/2012 19:31

Gamerwidow I think your Dh has isshoos

rhondajean · 31/08/2012 19:33

I would love to be kidnapped. Y Jamie Oliver and Alex James and force fed lovely food and cheese.
Mmmm mmmm mmmm.

wigglesrock · 31/08/2012 19:37

Oh I dislike Jamie Oliver with a passion that even I find hard to explain. I can't even watch him on the tv - he holds the same place in my heart as Keira Knightly and Christan Bale [shudder].

I don't shop at Sainburys because they never have anyone on the checkouts - honestly I quite like a bit of a queue but 2 checkouts open in a huge store Hmm I don't use self checkout for lots of reasons but mainly because its really awkward with a "helpful" 18 month old.

NellyJob · 31/08/2012 19:46

wonder if Jools is a mumsnetter.....

hermionestranger · 31/08/2012 19:47

YANBU JO is a slug tongued twat of the highest of mockney orders! His parents gave DH food poisoning as well! The whole lot of them can cock off.

I do like Sainsbo's though, but it's a trek so I goes to tesco's and has the odd shop from Ocado.

rhondajean · 31/08/2012 19:49

Christian bale holds and entirely different part of my heart from Jamie. In that batman mask....

It's sad I know but I've just always wanted to be one of Jamie's gang since the first tv series with the flat with the spiral stairs and him cooking a massive breakfast for Jools and the gang when they came back from a night out...

Mrsjay · 31/08/2012 19:54

I hope you blocked him sister

violetwellies · 31/08/2012 20:27

This thread should get the aibu of the week award, sister Grin

NurseBernard · 31/08/2012 20:39

This is the first time I've ever heard of Sainsburys shoppers as smug. Grin Really? I think of it as on par with Tesco?!

Even Jools got papped furtively shopping at Waitrose in the early days of his partnership with Sainsburys.

rhondajean · 31/08/2012 21:02

Sainsburys shoppers are a bit smug round here as we don't have a wait rose for thirty miles but you need to throw some m and s food shopping in for th full on smuggers.
