I HATE CATS.

Just went to drop DD off to her friends house for the day. They have cats. Those expensive ones that cost thousands of pounds. (I only know this because her dad told me with great joy how he'd spent that much on them. All cats look the same to me, ugly little creatures).

Anyway, one of them was near my foot (unbeknown to me). I was holding DS so couldn't see the floor. Anyway I took a step forward and might have stepped on his paw, so it miaowed at me and made me jump and shout "omg".

Cue the dad's face of thunder and he didnt even say goodbye to me when I left, even though I apologised profusely.
I thought he was very rude, but I still cringed all the way home and am dreading going to pick up dd. What if I broke its bloody paw? It was jumping around as I was leaving, so don't know if it's hurt. He's very protective over the cats. He's like a mad cat man.

Well my cat was the biggest drama queen and the noise it made was usually no reflection of how hurt it was. It would sit on the stairs and not move but if you put your foot near it, he would yowl like anything. So as long as the animal didn't limp of crying i doubt you really hurt it. As it was an accident the Dad sounds bonkers and he is the onle i would have a problem with.

I do think it's odd to HATE cats/animals tho. I have always had dogs or cats and i am surprised at how many people/friends think it's okay to kick them (not saying you did that OP) when visiting and when challenged laugh at me and say 'it's ONLY an animal'.

I went to a neighbours bbq and my cat could hear me in the garden so jumped over the wall and settled by my feet. A guest of the neighbour kicked it and flick his cigarette on it and when i said 'what do you think you are doing?' he said 'i hate cats, it was getting on my nerves' I said 'well that may be (as i picked up my cat) but he wasn't bothering you so why go out of your way to be nasty to it? and btw it is my cat i live next door'. He blustered and completely changed his tone of voice and said he was worried it might get trodden on or burnt by the bbq so was trying to shoo it away Hmm

Cat's are a pain in the ass. It's not the cat's fault? Well it's not the op's fault either, she didn't see the bloody thing standing there.
I have a cat and he has a habit of walking/running directly in front of us and tripping us on a daily basis. If he gets trodden on, it's his own silly fault. I kind of love him, but he is annoying sometimes..
Don't feel bad for stepping on the cat, it was an accident.

squoosh · 30/08/2012 12:03

I'm usually indifferent to cats but I can't bear to even look at those creepy bald cats, whatever they're called. They freak me out. Evil looking monsters, truly the stuff of nightmares.

HappyAsChips · 30/08/2012 12:03

*Cats not cat's

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 30/08/2012 12:03

Spuddybean - it is perfectly acceptable, in such circumstances, to kick the thick-as-pigshit moron who believes it acceptable to hurt an animal just because "it's only an animal"

Smile
coldfuchsia · 30/08/2012 12:04

Its nasty people who hurt cats that mean mine will never go outside, that and risks from cars.

Sounds like a young red or tortie ragdoll or else a flame siamese. If it is a show quality cat then 1000 pounds is more than possible.

Ild go get dd if it was me, ask if the cat needed treatment, then leave the family alone.

CleoSmackYa · 30/08/2012 12:04

YANBU. Cats are manky.

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 30/08/2012 12:05

Happy - DD in tears yesterday because she stepped on our eldest cat.

Cat yowled, looked disgruntled and then pranced off.

DD inconsolable for 10 minutes!

Hmm
reluctanttownie · 30/08/2012 12:08

Don't see the scenario necessitates a shouty capitalised thread title about hating cats, so YABU on that front. The cat didn't do anything wrong.

Otherwise, unfortunate situation, but not a big deal. DH and I step on one of our cats regularly because she has a habit of teleporting from nowhere to right behind you. She's never been injured but we don't wear shoes inside. Would only be cross with someone else if they were clearly being careless in process, or weren't very apologetic. And we're the maddest cat people you can get. The man seems v rude if cat not visibly hurt and you were indeed profusely apologetic. We always warn people if our cats are hovering near feet, just in case.

Fed up with 'I hate cat' threads though, esp any that involve the great garden-poo debate. FWIW I very much doubt it was cat poo you trod in unless you were wading round in a flower bed barefoot (foolish anyway). If it was on a path or lawn etc or anywhere you would reasonably be walking barefoot, it would have been a fox or something. Cats don't go in the middle of nowhere like that.

HappyAsChips · 30/08/2012 12:09

Omg squoosh I just looked at the hairless cats, they are VILE! They look like something from a horror film!

coldfuchsia · 30/08/2012 12:09

I feel so sorry for cats who live with people who don't love them, or near people who abuse them.

HappyAsChips · 30/08/2012 12:14

Brian I feel sorry for your daughter. I know I feel guilty for accidently standing on our cat, but I do get angry with him too, why doesn't he learn?..

HullyGullyPuppy · 30/08/2012 12:17

Cats are bastards. Angry

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 30/08/2012 12:20

Happy - because as HullyGullyPuppy says, they are bastards Wink

and yet we happily serve them.

NameChangeGalore · 30/08/2012 12:21

I ran into the window and it hurt Sad cats are mean taunty bastards Angry

Spuddybean · 30/08/2012 12:24

reluctant I adore cats (and all animals) but can't have any as DP has allergies. So for the 1st time in my life have a problem with cat shit in our garden. I always thought cat's only went in flower beds and buried it but the the lazy little feckers here! They walk bold as brass to the middle of my lawn and squat and do a poo then just trot off. I am heavily pg and don't want to bend down cleaning it up (there are about 7 a day - we are the only house on the street without a cat). As much as i love cats it is a pain. But i don't like the cat bashing threads either.

brian yes i have been tempted. Some people just really hate animals i don't get it. It's not like they understand our social etiquette. I have had friends say repeatedly, 'why is it looking at me' about the cat 'it's sniffing me!' about the dog. Um yes. Cats also yowl so over dramatically it can be really distressing for the person accidentally standing near it. You just have to learn that they do that - as a child it is upsetting tho.

NameChangeGalore · 30/08/2012 12:24

HullyGullyPumpy, I'm amazed. How can you type with your big paws? And you've mastered using smileys too?! [shocked].

frayededges · 30/08/2012 12:25

I REALLY HATE CATS and am using this in an oppertunistic manner to say so.

Cynner · 30/08/2012 12:27

I hate people, love cats.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 30/08/2012 12:32

I'd like to point out that it is not true that cats won't crap in the middle of a lawn. My neighbours cats regularly used my front lawn as a giant litter tray. They were posh ragdoll cats called George and Albert. My neighbour had a special little shovel she used to clear it up. She was a bloody amazing neighbour. I miss her.

HullyGullyPuppy · 30/08/2012 12:37

NameChange

With my nose of course when HD isn't looking.

Peetle · 30/08/2012 12:39

I like wild birds in my garden, not defecating cats slaughtering them.

LST · 30/08/2012 12:42

I love my cats. And I don't really care if people don't tbh.
