To set up a thread so that someone will --hopefully-- come and talk to me??

Am I? Or should I find something else to do? I am sat at work and there isn't anything to do...the day is long and boring so far, and my supervisor is pissing me off no end and am trying not to blow my top at her. My 3 DC are away at their dads until sunday and i am missing them dreadfully and thought i'd love the quiet....but I just want them back!

If anyone fancies talking and helping my day along..... :)

Lovemy3kids · 29/08/2012 16:49

One each I reckon!! Can we have doilies under the cakes, and posh sugar bowls with those exquisite little sugar tongs?

GotMyLittleLamb · 29/08/2012 16:53

what is this cake of which you speak Hmm and can you ship one 'oop norf' as I think it is terribly unfair you have yummy gooey cake and I don't....

DorothyGherkins · 29/08/2012 16:54

I dont usually work on a Wednesday afternoon. I ve been asked to come in to cover a colleagues hospital appointment. So in four hours, the phone has just rung once and theres absolutely nothing else for me to do........ so a lardy cake conversation has been a real bonus Lovemy!

DorothyGherkins · 29/08/2012 16:55

GotMyLittleLamb - i m oop north now, and I havent seen anything similar oop here. I had a go once at making a lardy cake, but the result wasnt anything like the baker shop version, which cant be beaten.

DorothyGherkins · 29/08/2012 16:56

All doughy and sweet and sticky and loads of dried fruit.

Lovemy3kids · 29/08/2012 16:58

I'm off home, but will log back on when I am there and tell you all about the delights of the lardy cake Grin

Thanks for making my day pass quicker :)

Hello everybody. I ran off as I was out visiting a friend.
Felt it might be rude to mumsnet while visiting!

So in keeping with the food theme, I'm cooking chicken kievs for tea

Lovemy3kids · 30/08/2012 11:25

Looks can be deceiving Techno! The ones I buy are individual sized ones and they really are to die for! :)

I'm sure it tastes good.

Lovemy3kids · 30/08/2012 12:23

it does...honestly...though ones from bakers are much nicer than the supermarket bought ones :)

Seems no-one wants to chat today.... :(

I ll join in again! Another four hours of doing nothing in the office! The phone may ring once if I m lucky!

KD0706 · 30/08/2012 13:15

Hello.
I'm back too. I am off Out shortly. Meeting about a semi return to work - just two hours a week so I don't think it really counts!

DorothyGherkins · 30/08/2012 13:21

Let me pick your brains, ladies. I need to buy a gift to send to my Japanese friend. We only spend about a tenner, but I need something which wont break in the post, wont cost a fortune to mail, and if poss has a UK/European flavour. The last present I bought her, got it home, and it was marked Made In China! I d buy her a lardy cake - but I d only eat it before I got home!

Lovemy3kids · 30/08/2012 14:48

I don't think a lardy cake would travel well if you managed to get it in the post and not in your mouth

What kind of things have you sent to your friend in the past?

I am having yet another boring day too with no work so far today Dorothy - thank goodness for the internet is all I can say!

OP posts:
DorothyGherkins · 30/08/2012 14:55

Oh I m glad someone else can sympathise with me when I tell them I have nothing to do at work everyone seems to think its a dream job, but the afternoons go so long! I d rather be doing something constructive and helpful. I m just glad I m allowed to surf!

In the past I ve sent my friend: a scarf, necklace, jigsaw with UK scenes, shopping bag......... cant think of the rest! You wouldnt think it could be so hard to send just a little something that is very English or European.

Lovemy3kids · 30/08/2012 15:01

I do sympathise Dorothy....I have been sat in my job for over a year and have done virtually nothing everyday....its hard just getting up the motivation to actually come into work! I love to be busy and i absolutely hate sat around doing nothing :(

Do you and your friend write to one another too? Could you send her something like pretty notelets or the like? Or do you have a nice picture of you both that you could frame and send? Will keep thinking of other ideas for you too.

OP posts:
DorothyGherkins · 30/08/2012 15:13

Thanks for your ideas. I d dismissed writing stuff as she sends me letters on the most gorgeous stationery, ours would look very second class by comparison. I ve been looking for some tiny photo frames (weight is always a consideration, its so expensive now!) but the only ones I ve found so far have been very naff! I m going to some nice shops at the weekend, hopefully they might have something a bit more inspiring, but I wanted to have some rough ideas of where to look! I also thought perhaps a pretty pen, but once again have only found tat on the internet! I just want something small and classy!
