to be fed up of being skint and feeling like a scrounger?

Really sick of hearing that people on benefits are lazy scroungers.

DP has done three weeks work which he hasnt been paid for. Boss called them in yesterday, expecting them to return to work even though he still hasnt paid them. We have had to sign on just to be able to eat.

The government would say "Just go get another job!"

How? Where are these jobs? DP is very qualified in a lot of different areas of work, and there isnt a single job. The woman assessing his claim wanted him to take a 20 hour pw job over an hour from where we live. So we would be paying for him to travel to work and not much else.

Its so tiring and stressful. Today we literally have £3. We have to move house at the weekend and no idea how we can do it. I am so bloody sick of hearing how lazy people are when infact they arent.

How do we make the government listen? Thats a genuine question! Are there petitions or campaigns I should support? Would writing to No.10 help?

When will this end?

No, I dont think the government cares at all. Sometimes it makes me irrationally angry. I have to avoid the news.

Its not just people like us though. Its everyone who doesnt earn a fortune. The cost of living is going up and wages are staying the same. The government dont have a clue what they are doing.

Kick Osbourne out and give the budget to a mother on a low income. Then we might get somewhere!!

I read on the front of a newspaper yesterday that food prices are due to rocket as there's been problems in the US. I don't think the food production in the UK is going well either, it's too wet. Sad SSE have just announced a price rise, with the other energy companies expected to follow. It's getting ridiculous now. Sad

bubalou · 29/08/2012 11:55

stubbornstains - I wasn't saying that I think I should decide who is deserving but I'm not going to apologise for thinking that the man I described was deserving as in my opinion - he wasn't.

If people want to be offended by what I say then that's up to them. The only people that can be offended are those that are themselves lying to the job centre, claiming benefits when they don't need them and defrauding a system that people who really do need help rely on. If people do these things they should be ashamed.

I didn't mean offence by the way I described him, I have a tattoo, I was merely trying to depict what he looked like as he was outside the post office topless and swigging beer at 11am.

WorraLiberty · 29/08/2012 11:56

I think what it is with the amount of crisis loans is that a lot of people would immediately get another one once they'd finished paying back the first.

I know my mate did this. She'd get used to receiving less money in her weekly benefits to pay for it....then as soon as it was paid she'd apply for another one.

So it was like there was a big pool of money that was just being loaned out, paid back, then loaned out again.

However, she needed every loan she applied for so if they're being limited to 2 per year (which I think they might be) I don't know how she'll manage.

OP, do you have a food bank near you? You really shouldn't have to be going without food you know....especially as you're pregnant Sad

wannabedomesticgoddess · 29/08/2012 11:57

We dont have the funds to set anything up that he is qualified in LadySybil. We have thought of that but it just wouldnt be possible. :(

I will starve before I would get a payday loan. We have enough stress without one of those :)

The really daft thing is that we know people that fit the "stereotype" even as far as a relative of mine who has babies for the money and is quite happy to not work. She thinks people who work are stupid Hmm

'Wouldn't the 20hr per week job open the door to tax credits? '

You need 24 hours a week if you are a couple and soon enough, 32 hours.

CharminglyOdd · 29/08/2012 11:59

I think they were planning (don't know if it's still going ahead) to remove Crisis Loans and make the provision of similar services locally administered. Like the old Poor Laws of the 19th Century Hmm Basically taking the money from central govt, splitting it up for local councils but not ring-fencing it, leading to three huge problems: a) unqualified staff [say what you like about JCP but at least some of their staff have been doing it for a few years] making decisions about where the money is 'best' spent so it becomes a political football as b) there won't be enough money to support all the services - it won't be a loan but, e.g. used to set up a soup kitchen or extra housing money so people won't be able to access money that can be spent on whatever they need, just access whatever their council deems fit to provide, and of course c) it's not ring-fenced so the councils don't have to set up anything if they don't want to... they could spend it on education/parking whatever instead.

And of course the staff that deal with Crisis Loans etc. now will be made redundant with no guarantee that they will be transferred to a council that will need extra staff to process the new money and applications properly.

OP, you really have my sympathies :( I hope that something gets sorted for you.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 29/08/2012 12:04

No food bank Worra :(

DPs mum is lending us some money for food. And the solicitor is hopeful that the wages will be resolved by tomorrow. We arent convinced though. Its been one let down after another lately.

I do get a bit to eat everyday, but nowhere near what I should. DP is surviving on nothing atm. Eg today I have had egg on toast. DP had just egg as theres no bread left. DD is at her dads so atleast I know shes getting fed. I dont know what we will eat later. Probably nothing. We need the money for DD and petrol.

God. Seeing it written looks terrible Blush but its helping to get it all out. Im not begging. I just need to vent.

I think you are all confusing crisis loans with budgeting loans

And why is this the governments fault op... Why are you ranting about them?

BlackberryIce · 29/08/2012 12:08

And you should have put petrol in your car rather than but shies fir pre school!!

BlackberryIce · 29/08/2012 12:08

*shoes for

expatinscotland · 29/08/2012 12:10

Maybe the kid had no shoes that fit to wear.

How is it the government's fault? Because they do not give a shit about ordinary people! Or about real growth for this country.

Youcanringmybell · 29/08/2012 12:10

Of course YANBU Thanks

I really feel for you all. Please do not go without food OP - try and find a food bank. You need something for you baby atleast.

Are you sure there is nothing you have that you can sell?? Just something to give you a tenner to buy some food?

How on Earth is your husband's boss sleeping at night - can your husband approach his boss and ask for a just for £20 of his wages towards petrol and food?? I know others need money too but you are desperate now..

It is unbelievable that this day in age people are still literally starving and beyond the breadline. I feel so Sad for you OP. Please accept help if someone can help you...

BlackberryIce · 29/08/2012 12:11

Pre school is not compulsory..... Sounds like the petrol is needed more. And food.

This is employers fault not the government

BlackberryIce · 29/08/2012 12:12

Op mentions petitioning no 10 in her first post.... Why?

WelshMaenad · 29/08/2012 12:14

Where are you OP? If you're near South Wales, I have a big estate car, and I can help you move stuff this weekend.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 29/08/2012 12:16

I am of the opinion that when DDs shoes are falling apart and a size too small she might be needing a new pair. Didnt realised that was an odd POV Hmm

Cant see how petrol is more important either.

I am not ranting just about the government. But they are playing there part. Every other day theres a quote from senior MPs about the lazy and entitled in this country. And while they are trying to deal with that problem they are ignoring the people with real need and labelling all benefit claimants the same!

OP posts:
Youcanringmybell · 29/08/2012 12:16

BlackberryIce - read her OP again - she knows it is partly the employers fault BUT she cannot get the help she needs from the govt.

WilsonFrickett · 29/08/2012 12:17

Blackberry, you are not helping. This is a poster who is on the edge, she and her DP are barely eating and they have literally no money. Speculating about whether they should have bought shoes or petrol is unhelpful. Both are necessities.

SchrodingersMew · 29/08/2012 12:19

I am fed up of hearing people mention tattoos when talking about "scroungers" Angry I hate it, I am very tattooed, I paid for these when I was able to work from my wages and spent a lot of money on them that I earned.

I can't work atm because of disability, when I say I am not working to someone the first thing I get is a comment about all the tattoos. Angry

OP, I really wish I could help and send you some food or money or a gift card or something but I am in exactly the same position and only have a couple of pounds just now. It really is an awful feeling isn't it? DP finally got a one off shift with a job and ended up only getting paid £30. Angry

Are you in Scotland? If you are you could try Scotcash, but it takes a while to get an appointment.

It's understandable OP is angry, perhaps her anger isn't pointed in the right direction but when you are living with practically nothing it is hard to not get angry with someone, anyone just to vent a bit.

LadySybildeChocolate · 29/08/2012 12:19

Do you get maintenance from your ex, OP?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 29/08/2012 12:20

Im in N.I Maenad but thanks :)

Ah I see. As preschool isnt compulsary my DD shouldnt go. Or get a £10 pair of shoes. Yes I think you are onto something there Blackberry. It has all become so clear. Hmm

OP posts:
BlackberryIce · 29/08/2012 12:20

youcan in her op??

Surely she has sandals/trainers or even wells to last a few days. Petrol is more important because you need to get your DH to work/solicitors/food banks and of course to move house!

Ask her dad to buy the shoes?

BlackberryIce · 29/08/2012 12:21

You said it is only a few days!

WelshMaenad · 29/08/2012 12:22

How old is your DD wanna ?
