To wish that the panini fad would just go away?

Just paid five whole pounds for some hot cardboard bread stuck together with gloopy, molten cheese. No proper sandwiches to be seen.

Why is it so popular? Will we ever get proper naice sandwiches again.

I hate paninis. They are just not very filling.

SPsFanjoSponsoredByFemFresh · 27/08/2012 14:16

I'd rather have cheese and onion walkers in white bread that is covered in butter!

Fuck paninis! Grin

OhTheConfusion · 27/08/2012 14:16

YANBU!!! Bring back the bloomer :)

chocoluvva · 27/08/2012 14:17

They seem to be an excuse for charging more for a cheese toastie!
YANBU

Not really my favourite, but not a fad - the office I was working in during summer 1999 had it's own panini bar.

ExitStencilist · 27/08/2012 14:19

Where do you live? I haven't seen a panino in years, they went out 5 years or more ago.

WorraLiberty · 27/08/2012 14:23

Meh

They were called toasties in my day

emsyj · 27/08/2012 14:23

I really like them! Chicken & pesto or mozzarella, pesto, sundried tomato and black olive. Nom. Or cheese & ham. I much prefer melted cheese to 'dry'.

SuoceraBlues · 27/08/2012 14:25

It's just a heated up roll (of various types) with a bit filling. How did it get to the five quid mark?

I live in Italy and avoid them myself. I have serious doubts about the advisability of heating a sandwich containing cold cuts and mayonaise type dressings till the innards are at a "nice and warm breeding ground" temperature. Pretty sure some of the bugs that went around work were less to do with viruses and bacteria infecting the school and more to do where everybody went to grab a bite for lunch.

TheVermiciousKnid · 27/08/2012 14:25

I used to really like panini. Can't stand them now. I'm not sure if I've reached panini saturation or if panini quality has deteriorated.

I've seen nutella panini for sale in France...

piprabbit · 27/08/2012 14:27

Nutella sounds nice.

My main objection to panini are the ones with salady shit in - which then gets cooked. Bleurgh.

SuoceraBlues · 27/08/2012 14:30

Exactly. Some things in sandwiches are not at their best when squashed and warmed up.

Olympicnmix · 27/08/2012 14:31

My kids love em but we do live in the sticks in a timewarp.

Bilbobagginstummy · 27/08/2012 14:41

I used to work near a sandwich shop that did the most wonderful tuna/cheese paninis.

Moved jobs and nowhere near work does anything even professing to be a panini, let alone approaching that level of yumminess.

But I only really like tuna/cheese ones. And too many places don't heat them for long enough, so the cheese is still cold. Yuk!

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 27/08/2012 14:43

Panini quality has definatly deteriorated. I used to love them. Now I have stopped buying them because it was nearly a fivers worth of dissapointment every time.

LST · 27/08/2012 14:45

I'd love a pannini press Sad

TheSkiingGardener · 27/08/2012 14:49

2 cast iron frying pans make a good panini press without cluttering up your cupboard. The shop ones never seem to have enough filling in, which is always a disappointment.

BoneyBackJefferson · 27/08/2012 14:55

bugger, I thought that this would be about football stickers :(

GetOrfMoiUsain · 27/08/2012 14:57

They are absolutely revolting.

I think the shite served up in Costa and the like is truly awful. Panini stuck in cellophane for god knows how long and horrible looking cakes. But because it is a coffee shop it is seen as reasonable.

I bet it would be healthier to have a big mac and a mcflurry.

McHappyPants2012 · 27/08/2012 15:05

I love the old machine that you could do a beans and cheese toasty at home.

Paninis are not nice

GetOrfMoiUsain · 27/08/2012 15:06

I used to love cheese and onion toasties in the old fashioned breville machines.

I made a jam toastie once though and burnt my entire mouth - not a good idea. Grin

theodorakis · 27/08/2012 15:37

I hate paninis, especially seeing as they usually have that extra apostrophe. Panini's.

Oh, and having a panini doesn't make you more sophisticated. You are still sitting in a greasy hole in Slough, it isn't Paris or New York just because you overpay for badly made, inauthentic shit.

theodorakis · 27/08/2012 15:41

Can I also add that the word often catches my eye because subconsciously I read penis

GetOrfMoiUsain · 27/08/2012 15:44

lolol at theo

axure · 27/08/2012 15:49

Would never pay the over-inflated prices out, but have a Breville cafe grill machine, which has been used and used, brilliant for making paninis at home for a fraction of the cost, quick and easy when people call round.
