To NOT make my DM a cup of tea?

Eggrules · 25/08/2012 12:15

DM is at a motorway services half an hour away having a cup of tea

She must drink 20 cups a day. She has just left a message asking me to put the kettle on in 25 mins so that a cuppa is waiting for her. Confused

I really think she can wait until the kettle boils or even make it herself when she gets here.

AIBU?

Just do it. You still have to boil the kettle?

SandStorm · 25/08/2012 12:17

Maybe it's her way of saying she'll be there in half an hour?

AgentZigzag · 25/08/2012 12:17

She sounds exactly like my dad Grin

If all it takes for her to be happy is a nice cup of tea - get that kettle on and be grateful Smile

Socknickingpixie · 25/08/2012 12:18

how old are you?

do you live in her house?

pjmama · 25/08/2012 12:20

Is she a builder?

Just put the kettle on.

PuppyMonkey · 25/08/2012 12:20

YABU

Stick the kettle on and I'll have one too if you're mashing. 20 cups, is that all?

Eggrules · 25/08/2012 12:20

No she has rang specifically to make sure a cuppa is ready and has form for being cuppa mad.

I spoke to my DF just before they left.

I live 100 miles away in my own house.

I really don't understand, why can't she wait for her fix of caffeine?

Annunziata · 25/08/2012 12:21

It's a cup of tea, not a three course meal!

NameChangeGalore · 25/08/2012 12:21

Is drinking that much tea good for you? Are you trying to save water? If not, just do it.

akaemmafrost · 25/08/2012 12:22

This would irritate me too.

I would say "oh sorry I forgot Smile".

But I do realise how petty it is.

Eggrules · 25/08/2012 12:22

Puppy - I'll make you one.

I am happy for her to drink 85 cups. I am pissed off she has rang to make sure one is ready. Cuppas in her house are luke warm from the pot.

OP posts:
pjmama · 25/08/2012 12:22

She must pee like a racehorse.

AgentZigzag · 25/08/2012 12:23

'Cuppas in her house are luke warm from the pot. '

Ewww SIBU, hate that furry teeth feeling from stewed tea.

Eggrules · 25/08/2012 12:27

Three course meal is planned for later. I have her favourite cake in and everything.

How much tea she drinks is up to her.

akaemmafrost It offends me that she has rang to instruct me to have something ready for her grand entrance - she is dissing my hostess skills.

I don't understand the urgent nature of the need for tea.

Her tea/cooking is awful.

PuppyMonkey · 25/08/2012 12:30

You travel somewhere, you want a cup of tea when you get there. This is normal.

AgentZigzag · 25/08/2012 12:32

I doubt she's 'dissing' your hostess skills because that'd be admitting she didn't teach you them properly Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 25/08/2012 12:34

Mums are allowed to do this. She'll be happy on her journey knowing there's a cuppa waiting for her. It's not a huge demand, just make the tea.

ThePigOnTheWall · 25/08/2012 12:34

Stop being so touchy. She's not "dissing" you. She just likes her tea. Make her one, how she likes it, and get over it.

And while I'm at it maybe she likes it "luke warm from the pot". Thats her prerogative. I would rather not have a cup of tea than have one made in the mug

Eggrules · 25/08/2012 12:35

I would have made a cup as soon as they arrived.

Rude to ring and ask for one to be ready. Strange because she was drinking tea at the time.

AgentZigzag Grin She didn't.

I love having guests. Cheeky cah.

I'm surprised it is your mother, this sort of nit-picking is usually reserved for the MIL. My family are Scots and Yorkshire, they live on tea.

jaffacake2 · 25/08/2012 12:37

I always say to my daughters put the kettle on when I mean get ready for a chat.
We rarely drink much tea !!
Perhaps its an expression of my generation

nickelcognito · 25/08/2012 12:40

Puppy - as soon as you mentioned mashing, i knew you were from notts! Grin

OP, i'd be worried about the number of cups she drinks in a day, but there's no changing some people.
i bet she's got really low iron and a cast iron pelvic floor. (tea gives me the urge to poo)
Grin
just get the kettle on for her. :)

Eggrules · 25/08/2012 12:42

If she liked it luke warm from the pot she would have asked for it to be made straight away to stew.

I am positive that I have understood her message she wants it freshly made to be timed for her arrival and I think that is rude -especially when she makes crap tea herself--

Maybe her tone has brought back my teenage attitude. Grin

(T minus 17 mins and kettle is not on yet)

OP posts:
FannyFifer · 25/08/2012 12:44

It's the stopping for a cuppa when only a half hour away that would annoy me.
If she's anything like my mil, she will off course be late and have us hanging around half the day waiting on her.

jaffacake2 · 25/08/2012 12:46

Go on put the kettle on for her
Just think of all those dirty nappies and sleepless nights she had for you when you were little
Mums all deserve tea from their daughters although I prefer coffee Smile
