To disagree with special lanes in london for the para olympics

There are special lanes designed for the para olympic athletes which are currently active, inspite of the fact the para olympics are week away. Having designated lanes during the olympics was a massive inconvience for people getting to work.

www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/london2012/24565.aspx

I am being unreasonable thinking that its over the top keeping the lane restrictions for the para olympics.

a) the para olympics don't start for a week.
b) the para olympics is not a comparible sporting even to the olympics.
c) Very few people will actually use the lanes compared with the olympics. Sad to say, but the level of media interest in the para olympics is less than the actual olympics. Also there are far fewer competitors who might use the lanes.

The lane restrictions were just about barable for the olympics because they were during the summer holidays. Its going to be hellish when the school term starts and people are back to work.

I feel a compromise would be to allow para olympic spectators to use the lanes rather than having lanes standing empty.

I saw a sign on the M25 stating that the lanes were currently active.

What's not comparible? Of course it's comparible..

MrsKeithRichards · 22/08/2012 18:26

I heard they were active again but only at certain tines between now and the games.

Yabu.

EduStudent · 22/08/2012 18:26

*Paralympics, not 'para olympics'

NCForNow · 22/08/2012 18:28

YABVU

ReallyTired I can ASSURE you that the Paralympics ARE comparable.

You sound mean and ignorant.

annalovesmrbates · 22/08/2012 18:29

Why are the paralympics not comparable? For that comment alone, you are very unreasonable.

annalovesmrbates · 22/08/2012 18:29

confusedpixie · 22/08/2012 18:30

I agree with you only on the point that there will be less people using them and therefore the congestion caused by paralympic traffic would be minimal in comparison to the congestion that would have occurred with the Olympics. But then traffic is bad in London anyway so I'm on the fence about them being opened!

Leena49 · 22/08/2012 18:30

Why is it not compatible? Because they are disabled? Oh that would be great wouldn't it imagine the outcry
Special lanes disbanded because these Olympics are not as important!
Tough it's once in a lifetime you miserable .

Meant comparible not compatible.

Smellslikecatspee · 22/08/2012 18:32

The amount of venom I want to throw at you right now would get me banned for life.

I can't actually express how sick your post makes me

hermioneweasley · 22/08/2012 18:32

I think it would be fair to say that (unfortunately ) the levels of corporate sponsorship etc are lower and therefore fewer big wigs that need transporting, but presumably athletes will still need t get to different venues across London .

Completely ridiculous if they are active when the games aren't going on.

ohcluttergotme · 22/08/2012 18:32

You sound like you are discriminating against someone because of their disability. What a lovely example you must be setting your impressionable children as you moan in your car that people with disability should not be treated fairly or equally Sad

manicinsomniac · 22/08/2012 18:32

It's not mean and ignorant? Of course they're not a comparable event. The Paralympics is great, interesting, a huge step forward in equality and I'm very much looking forward to watching some and going to the athletics.

But it isn't the olympics. You just can't compare the two in terms of public, media and world. The opening and closing ceremonies will be much smaller (if they have them?), there are fewer events, fewer athletes and it doesn't have the same prestige.

I have no clue about the lanes as I don't live in London. I'm surprised the organisers think they're necessary but would be willing to trust their judgement.

manicinsomniac · 22/08/2012 18:34

public, media and world interest that should have said.

hiviolet · 22/08/2012 18:34

Tickets for the Paralympics are completely sold out for the first time in its history. Channel 4 are making a massive deal out of covering it.

And you say there's little interest in it?

manicinsomniac · 22/08/2012 18:36

not little interest but certainly less. The tickets were a fraction of the price of the Olympic tickets and Channel 4 isn't the BBC.

HairyMaclary · 22/08/2012 18:36

There are far, far fewer lanes for the Paralympics than the Olympics, something like a fifth of the amount.

MrsJREwing · 22/08/2012 18:37

Did you travel in London in July? It was the same for the olympics. The lanes are not always active, there are upto date signs letting you know the lanes are not needed and can be used. It will be over in a few weeks.

Bossybritches22 · 22/08/2012 18:37

YANBU to say they shouldn't be using the lanes just yet.

YABVVVVVVVU to say they are not comparable to the Olympics. OK different but no less worthy of our time & investmetn & enjoyment.

For the first time ever they are getting equal exposure & footing as the main event which is FANTASTIC & I'm really looking forward to the same buzz as we had a few weeks ago!

Leena49 · 22/08/2012 18:38

I'm more interested in it than the Olympics so don't presume everyone harbers your discriminatory feelings against disabled people because they don't.

Sparks1 · 22/08/2012 18:40

The fact of the matter is the games lanes shouldn't exist full stop.

They're a ridiculous unneeded carry on from previous olympic events.

As to whether the two events are comparable, depends how you compare them doesn't it....

NovackNGood · 22/08/2012 18:43

It is rather more inconvenient with the games being towards the end of the summer now and people returning from hols to get ready for going off to school.

It is obvious to most that the paralympics are in no way comparable to the Olympics but of course you'll get flamed for that. Fewer nations actually take part and far fewer athletes despite there being up to 14 categorises of handicap for some events so being the champion is no where near comparable to being an Olympian of 204 nations.

If anyone thinks these two events are the same they only need look at the different symbols used to represent them and to the lack of Olympic rings around the place.

missymoomoomee · 22/08/2012 18:47

There are a lot less lanes, the paralympics don't start for a week but there have been lots of athletes arriving, I believe the tickets are either sold out or on the verge of being sold out, and I agree, they aren't comparable to any other sporting event, but I seriously doubt you and I mean that in the same way. What a disgustingly discriminating attitude you have.
