To disagree with special lanes in london for the para olympics

There are special lanes designed for the para olympic athletes which are currently active, inspite of the fact the para olympics are week away. Having designated lanes during the olympics was a massive inconvience for people getting to work.

www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/london2012/24565.aspx

I am being unreasonable thinking that its over the top keeping the lane restrictions for the para olympics.

a) the para olympics don't start for a week.
b) the para olympics is not a comparible sporting even to the olympics.
c) Very few people will actually use the lanes compared with the olympics. Sad to say, but the level of media interest in the para olympics is less than the actual olympics. Also there are far fewer competitors who might use the lanes.

The lane restrictions were just about barable for the olympics because they were during the summer holidays. Its going to be hellish when the school term starts and people are back to work.

I feel a compromise would be to allow para olympic spectators to use the lanes rather than having lanes standing empty.

Pesky disableds getting in the way of people trying to drive around London. Bet they get free cars as well.

OP are you one of those twats people who beep at special school buses picking up disabled children?

What I want to know is if we are going to get the torch emoticon back next Wednesday.

Or maybe something better than the torch.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 22/08/2012 19:48

Yes torch will be back!

kingbeat23 · 22/08/2012 19:55

Torch is in my home borough on 29th August, so I get to see it again! wonder if I'm able to see opening ceremony fireworks from my kitchen window again!! YAY!! am looking forward to explaining to my DD about the paras the same way I did when Oscar Pistorus (sp?) was running, she's 3 and is amazed at ANY athlete, thankfully she's not so narrowminded as some adults it seems...

WorraLiberty · 22/08/2012 20:02

kingbeat you must live spookily close to me then Grin

caramelwaffle · 22/08/2012 20:10

Torch will be back Smile

Op - you are clearly from HousePratCrash or Pratsonheads.

HipHopOpotomus · 22/08/2012 20:13

Our lanes - A4 west London, were decommissioned last week.

EnjoyResponsibly · 22/08/2012 20:21

OP in the absence of an arse emoticon I am awarding you my first Biscuit, which come to think of it does look a bit like an arse.

I watched the Paralympics in Beijing. It was awe inspiring. We achieved more medals in the Paralympics than in a the Olympics in 08.

Given the constraints faced by the athletes I would think Games Lanes are even more relevant this time.

YABU to gold medal standard.

kingbeat23 · 22/08/2012 20:56

Worra , I seem to remember from another thread that I do, we share the same MP as RubyFakeNails I think. Diane Abbot?

kingbeat23 · 22/08/2012 20:57
WorraLiberty · 22/08/2012 21:07

Oh no I'm a bit further away than that kingbeat but still a fairly short train ride.

kingbeat23 · 22/08/2012 21:12

Oh yeah, now you come to mention it, I remember the discussion now. A fair train ride away, but still near enough (not that I'm stalking you mind, I just remember when people say where they live if it's near me. I always end up thinking...have I met you? have we passed each other in the street? should we have a secret MN badge or summat to wear? then I realise I'm massively overthinking things and stop!)

Smellslikecatspee · 22/08/2012 21:30

Thank you D0oing for saying how I felt, so much better than I could (as Iwas in a major rage)

LittleBearPad · 22/08/2012 21:38

The Games lanes didn't cause much disruption for the Olympics, they are switched on and off as required and there's no reason there should be a difference between the Olympics and Paralympics.

Arguably they shouldn't have set them up for either of the Games bu that's another argument entirely.

LittleBearPad · 22/08/2012 21:39

Oooh torch, must see I this time

Dawndonna · 22/08/2012 21:42

OP. Go away, and learn to spell whilst you're at it.

Oh, and for various other posters, if you can count it, then it's FEWER, otherwise it's LESS.

eg. FEWER bees, LESS honey.

WorraLiberty · 22/08/2012 21:59

king I'm loving the idea of an MN badge...or a secret handshake Grin

threesocksmorgan · 22/08/2012 22:05

YABVU. And ignorant. And here is my first ever Biscuit.

Triggles · 22/08/2012 22:26

I read in one of the newspapers that the paralympics is the second biggest sporting event worldwide, second only to the olympics. Surely that's a big enough scope to warrant dealing with some specialised lanes for a couple weeks? And that's all it is.. just a few weeks.

I cannot believe people begrudge this.

MoonlightandRoses · 22/08/2012 22:41

Yes OP, I couldn't agree with you more in your statement:

I am being unreasonable thinking that its over the top keeping the lane restrictions for the para olympics

You are unreasonable for thinking that and, in the absence of clarification on the "comparible" [sic] comment, you are being extremely unreasonable in point b) in your post.

How can an event that shows people at the top of their game, demonstrating drive, determination and an ability to overcome physical, mental and, often social 'acceptability' obstacles not be comparable to another event that showed people at the top of their game, demonstrating drive, determination and an ability to overcome physical, mental and, often social 'acceptability' obstacles?
