I bleed lots. And it gives me dreadful wind. It's amazing evolution has not yet come up with a workable alternative.

Yama that is a one off payment. That cup will last you ten years or more So it isn't expensive really. Add up how much you spend every month on pads or tampons and it really is an investment.
Although I believe you can buy the American brands Luna cup or diva cups for around a tenner online.
I got my mooncup in boots 4 years ago for £20.

Yama · 16/08/2012 21:01

Yeah, I guess you are right. It's just, we throw tampons in with the shopping so I don't notice paying for them.

I'm gonna take the plunge (so to speak).

I've had a contraceptive implant (Nexplanon) since DD2 was born 3 years ago so I haven't had a period for over 4 years!

Have not missed the bloody things, not one jot.

TalHotBrunette · 16/08/2012 21:29

I'm considering a mooncup thanks to this thread but am definitely in denial of put off by the fact my "pelvic tone" will require the larger size. It'd be like admitting something to myself. Surely the fact that I am relatively young and have worked hard on my pelvic floor counts for something?

After two children there's not a hope in hell for me is there? Grin

Perhaps I'll wait til my thirtieth birthday (the table says this warrants the bigger size) and justify it that way...

nutty123 · 16/08/2012 21:46

Op, I feel your pain.

I get two periods a month lasting for a week at a time! For over a year now!

KitCat26 · 16/08/2012 22:17

Talhotbrunette me too. I'm going to order one tonight the, err, larger size. Two babies, a pelvic floor which was worked on (and needs to be again) and thirty at the end of the year... I'll keep it til then by which time it should miraculously fit Grin.

JollyHockeyStick · 16/08/2012 22:18

Argh, nutty. That sounds like hell.

Mine always last over a week, but at least I usually only have one a month! Except when using the implant as my only contraception, then I get 2 every 3 weeks (lasting a week each) but they're much lighter.

Measured out 200ml of water earlier to see what it looks like. I think I bleed nearly that much most periods. Woke up this morning with myself and my bedding looking like a scene from CSI.

It is hell Jolly!!!

Been to see Gynae, gave me some pills to try but made no difference whatsoever. Got to wait until Oct sometime to go back.

but your CSI comment was quite funny!

LivingThings · 16/08/2012 22:31

been on the progesterone only mini pill for years and have no periods a all (fab!!) odd bit of light breakthrough bleding about 3 times a year but nothing else!

foreverondiet · 16/08/2012 22:34

5 years ago I would have said mooncup but now I say mirena! No periods for a year. I know it doesn't suit everyone but no periods is my only side effect Smile - so only have periods when TTC... and don't think I'll be doing that again!

vvviola · 16/08/2012 22:41

I spent years suffering really badly: vomiting, cramps, digestive issues. Used to miss a couple of days a month at uni. Things improved slightly when I went on pill at 20 (doc wouldn't prescribe until I'd tried everything else Angry)

When I came off contraception to TTC DD2, I was terrified but thankfully doc loaded me up with extra strength drugs... and it only took a few months. (DD1 was a happy, contraception failure surprise Grin)

Thanks to cerazette and breastfeeding I haven't had another period since. But I do wonder how long I should/could carry on taking hormones.

I like the idea of a mooncup but I'm too blooming clumsy to take the risk... have visions of dropping it in toilet/on floor/all over myself Grin

HipHopOpotomus · 16/08/2012 22:47

Mirena works for me (so far). It's brilliant!

OHforDUCKScake · 16/08/2012 23:03

I dont understand everyones adorable love for the moon cup.

I have short light periods, so nothing to suffer except pulling out a dry tampon- yeuch!!!! Horrible feeling but you to change them every 8 hours and pads are not good.
So I turned to MC's and yes it works but I dont get the love for it.

Its the least of a bad bunch as far as Im concerned, and with that I still think its rank having to face its contents daily.

One friend said to me "Ducks when you very first took it out full, did you give it a big sniff?"

Fuck off no I didnt!

hiddenhome · 16/08/2012 23:10

Don't look then Ducks just empty it and rinse out Smile

OHforDUCKScake · 16/08/2012 23:13

I always look because I dont want bits to get to places where others might spot later. Which happens most times.

hiddenhome · 16/08/2012 23:19

I just empty mine in the shower morning and night. I don't even look, so never even see my period anymore Grin

bubalou · 16/08/2012 23:28

I feel the same - fucking bloated, spots, rank hair, hotter than usual, headaches, backache & lots of cramp!!!

If that wasn't bad enough no sex for 5-6 days Angry

Last day of period today I hope! (Can u tell, frustrated much) Grin

IWishIWasSheRa · 16/08/2012 23:51

Vajazzler- noooooo don't tell me that!! Sorry to hear of your problems- had no idea it could only last 5 years

MushroomSoup · 17/08/2012 00:33

I had intensive chemo a few years back and the upside of it all was that I was told I would be infertile and menopausal afterwards (family complete, thank God). Anyway - my bloody period can back while I was on chemo; totally unheard of. AND I got pregnant. Periods still every 28 days, 5 years on. Menopausal my arse!

Vajazzler · 17/08/2012 20:23

Sorry IWish but it true Sad I wish it was a permanent solution I really do. My family is finished and I've been sterilized so have no need for this every month and jumped at the opportunity to reduce it significantly. However, slowly but surely they are getting longer and heavier.

bubalou · 17/08/2012 22:30

After I posted saying it was nearly finished.... It wasn't! Finally finished now & I'm hoping to finally get some action tonight for the 1st time in 6 days!!! Wink

Secrecy · 17/08/2012 22:32

YASOOOONBU

But I guess we'll all miss it when we're older.

JollyHockeyStick · 17/08/2012 22:52

Day 3 of heavy bleeding here. 2 days of light before that. So likely another couple of days of light bleeding to go.

No chance of sex in the jolly household this weekend then.

IwishIwasinLondon · 17/08/2012 23:01

I have used a mooncup for nearly 3 years now.

I have to empty it every 2-3 hours on days 3 and 4. I still wear towels incase I don't change it in time. I still get some cramping, it it is less and my periods still last for 8 or 9 days. I hate it every month.

I have tried mefanamic acid and tranexamic acid and both gave me awful, debilitating headaches so I'm back to square 1 really?

IwishIwasSheRa - are you trying to pinch my name?! Wink
