Just wondered what peoples kids do while they are on mums net. Some people are on here an awful lot even on sunny days when they should be outdoors.
I really am not judging- just curious.

I just leave my baby crying in the corner, chewing lead paint off some toys I found in a bin.

I think the technical term is 'encouraging independent play'.

Generally I am sat on the floor, playing with him, with the laptop on the floor next to, for when he'shappily playing/sucking on his feet/licking the cat.

MsNobodyAgain · 15/08/2012 20:34

He's educated in chimney sweeping, workhouse etiquette and pick pocketing. I hope he is of use to you. I've neglected him terribly whilst I have been MNetting.

Pandemoniaa · 15/08/2012 20:35

and I also assumed everyone had little kids like me

Well you assumed wrongly, didn't you?

Pandemoniaa · 15/08/2012 20:36

PS. Although when in charge of a "little kid", I tend to send her up chimneys before she gets too old for it and will have to be sent into the fields to stone crows instead.

Xayide · 15/08/2012 20:38

Its thanks to being on here and reading another thread - I wondering if we should reconsider letting the DC play outside and be run over by the neighbors though chimney sweeping sounds more profitable.

gordyslovesheep · 15/08/2012 20:44

why to poor little urchin in need of good old kindly Uncle Gordy to show him some kindness and offer a place to sleep ...in return for some light labour you understand - why mothers like you keep me in business for shame Grin

Trazzletoes · 15/08/2012 20:45

Having read this thread I'm now feeling a little nervous that DS does occasionally eat Greggs sausage rolls... No doubt I feature on a thread here by someone who saw a woman feeding a baby sausage rolls

BumpingFuglies · 15/08/2012 20:46

My DSS's had Greggs sausage rolls this week....and survived. OP you're hilarious! Best giggle all day Grin

MsNobodyAgain · 15/08/2012 20:46

I'm hanging my head in shame (whilst drinking gin).

Cor blimey guvner, aren't them kids finished with the frooooot shooooots yet?

ProperCheerMum · 15/08/2012 20:50

Y'all are too posh for me....sheesh, fruit shoots? What's wrong with letting 'em drink out of puddles?

ProperCheerMum · 15/08/2012 20:51

Though, as a PROPER parent, I encourage them to avoid the yellow puddles cos I think the dog may have made them

Lancelottie · 15/08/2012 20:52

What do they do while I'm on Mumsnet? Depends...

DS1: whinges that it's HIS turn for the computer. Occasionally exerts himself to mow lawn, or explain that he really really needs the computer for Important School Work.
DS2: sleeps. For hours. If only he'd done that as a little kid.
DD: makes tea. brings me tea. Sympathises kindly with me for having to work on a lovely day Blush

AmazingBouncingFerret · 15/08/2012 20:55

I feel sorry for the OP.

I must be going soft in my old age... which way to netmums? Grin

Baskets45 · 15/08/2012 21:00

Has anyone mentioned the sedatives?!

Baskets45 · 15/08/2012 21:02

Sedatives are essential once they start moving around.

MsNobodyAgain · 15/08/2012 21:04

ABF the tickers will show the way. Follow the glitter trail...

Trazzletoes · 15/08/2012 21:05

Bumping thank God I'm not the only one!

Tee2072 · 15/08/2012 21:10

Mine just poured me another glass of wine.

Not really. He's really asleep as mentioned before.

SarahStratton · 15/08/2012 21:11

Well, today I've pulled all the lathe and plaster off the shower room walls, tomorrow I'll collect the cement board and make a start on putting that up. I've watered and weeded the vegetables, been to the beach with LittleDog, and done the laundry.

Both DDs elected to stay in bed until gone lunchtime, so they missed out on the beach trip.

They cooked dinner tonight though, and hoovered, dusted, and polished the house for me, which is a fair old bit of work in my house.

They're 14 and 19, I think I'm past the having to entertain/keep an eye on them stages. It's more the other way round really.

Glittertwins · 15/08/2012 21:12

You are more than welcome to hover over my pair and attend to their every need however you are more likely to be told to go away and leave us alone! Nothing wrong with independent play, it's good for their imagination.

SarahStratton · 15/08/2012 21:12

BTW, your NN is one of the more cuntish one's I've seen on here. Probably a good idea to change it, before anyone gets the wrong end of the stick about you. Wink

Woopdiedoo · 15/08/2012 21:12

I have wondered this myself (not in a judgy way) as since joining recently I've become pretty addicted. I usually pop on for a few minutes during the day and then properly at night but I still feel a bit guilty when I'm on during the day despite the fact that I do things with them in between

Propermother · 15/08/2012 21:14
  1. I apologised for thinking this was a new mum thing and fair enough many of you have older kids/no kids.
  1. I think I've hit a nerve with some of you [hmmm]

3.thank you to the ones who have sensible answers and are confident enough to admit they too are concerned about some posters.

OP posts:
HecateHarshPants · 15/08/2012 21:15

Well, they're 11 & 13 and not really bothered about me very much Grin during term time they're at school all day. They want to do their own thing - play with their stuff, use the computer etc and I'm fairly surplus to requirements.

We've been out a fair bit, doing different stuff, but I'm not going to do that every day for the whole six weeks! I'd have to sell one of them to afford it Wink

My job is internet based and I can be on the net for up to 8-10 hours at a time. One tab on my work and one on mumsnet Blush dipping in and out.

Right now they're eating supper and watching tv. Right here. I am watching them and trying to engage them in chat. You'd think I was asking them to chop off their leg.

SarahStratton · 15/08/2012 21:16

Your nn is still cuntish though, might have been a good idea to actually check the site out first. And no, I didn't read the whole thread, I've been here long enough to know pretty much what everyone else will have said.
