on holiday. No internet. No mobile signal. No sky TV.

DD2 is being weird and autistic about seaweed. DD1 is being teenage angsty and stressed about exam results. DH is breathing loudly.

I am drinking quite heavily and considering starting smoking again.

Im in cerredigion and loving it. Beautiful cottage with all mod cons including wifi. But i did read the brochure therefore i knew what to expect.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 13/08/2012 19:45

Or Scotland - no 3G here either, and I'm only 20 mins from Edinburgh.

TakingBackMonday · 13/08/2012 19:48

My heart was smashed last week by an ex I broke up with a year ago and should have stayed away from )I know this because AnyFucker told me at the time, and she is rarely wrong) thereby cancelling our holiday plans.

Have fled abroad with my Father, who I love dearly, but despite my grand age he does know that I smoke and I would eat a small Catalunian child for a Marlborough Light.

Thoughts with yoiu.

TakingBackMonday · 13/08/2012 19:51

doesnt, sorry

iknowwho · 13/08/2012 20:14

3G? In the countryside?? Ha ha.

I'll take that as a no then!! Grin

SoleSource · 13/08/2012 20:30

Not liking the reference to autism...

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 13/08/2012 20:33

Uhh..Your son is 'being Autistic?'

Hmm
LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 13/08/2012 20:34

Cross post Sole! I thought I was the only one who picked it up.

SoupDragon · 13/08/2012 20:36

Why? I assumed it is because the DD has an ASD.

AmIthatbad · 13/08/2012 20:38

I had assumed that the DD was on the autistic spectrum ??????

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 13/08/2012 20:38

I've heard 'being Autistic' used in real life as an insult quite often (it seems to have replaced spaz around here) so maybe I'm being overly suspicious.

If so, I apologise OP.

AmIthatbad · 13/08/2012 20:40

Lurking I had never heard of that. Do people really say that Shock

SoupDragon · 13/08/2012 20:40

Having stalked the OP through the search facility, I believe her DD2 has Aspergers.

AmIthatbad · 13/08/2012 20:42

That is what I had initially thought would be the case.

FellatioNelson · 13/08/2012 20:45

I've just had a few glorious sunny days on a boat, marred only by the presence of surly ungrateful teenagers. My DH and I have decided that once your youngest child turns 13 you should give up paying for family holidays. Send them to stay with someone they hate, and go on your own. Cheaper, and much more fun.

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 13/08/2012 20:48

OP, I am sorry I was suspicious.

Yes, people really say that. One of my close mates is really bad for it. I pull him up on it every time but he's always saying 'jokey' things like 'stop being so Autistic!' or 'that's a really Autistic way to say that' or 'I hate this movie, it's so Autistic.' You get the drift. It's caught on very quickly and I hope it leaves just as quickly!!!

(Yes, I am young and surrounded by idiots.)

MaryHansack · 13/08/2012 20:50

OP has disappeared in the wild of west wales........

GingerWrath · 13/08/2012 20:55

OP is now back at the tent, kids are in their sleeping bags and she has fished the urine sample like bag of white wine (taking it out of the box saves space) out of the cool box!

CaptainKirk · 13/08/2012 21:28

Last time we went on holiday we went to soft play (twice!) just to use their free wi-fi.

ThreadWatcher · 13/08/2012 21:30

What is wrong with a reference to autism? Wrong to assume that everyone who says "ds is being autistic about X" is being rude. My son has aspergers and I regularly think/quietly comment to myself/his dad "ds is being autistic about white bread/whatever"

Something odd though if you cant cope without modern technology for a week.
And if you really cant, go on holiday where you CAN access the things you think you cant live without.

PurplePidjin · 13/08/2012 21:45

I read "being autistic" as short hand for "finding the change of routine exceptionally difficult to cope with" combined with "senses overloaded by new sounds, smells and sight" which would most likely result in the person refusing to leave the campsite, meaning that the other members of the family were limited in what they can do.

Hmm
hertsfem55 · 13/08/2012 21:52

LOL ..VERY FUNNY

degutastic · 13/08/2012 22:17

OP, you're in a pub, YABU Grin Nothing to complain about there! Just don't stagger off the cliff edge if when you leave Grin

regarding "autistic" I've only ever heard it used to mean that someone's behaving in an autistic manner, or a manner which might be seen as more plausibly exhibited by someone on the spectrum, rather than as a derogatory term per se.

TaggieMandevilleBlack · 14/08/2012 10:06

I'm bsck. On a lovely train with lovely internet. In Dorset which is lovely but 3g somewhat lacking and where clouds start 6 feet above the ground.

Yes. DD has aspergers and isn't having a rip roaring jolly time. I have no idea why i thought she would. Although the sun is shining so today may be marginally better.

DHs breathing is getting louder.

I may have to confess to needing an hour or 2 alone later.

Watch out between Sway and Totton, there's a massive dead spot. It's stable otherwise, at least this side of Poole Wink
