To think the closing ceremony is alittle too early

The parolymics have not taken place and already the flag has been handed over.

I did think that. It's a shame they don't throw this shindig after the whole thing is finished.

germyrabbit · 12/08/2012 23:36

agree

Sirzy · 12/08/2012 23:37

They are two seperate events. The Paralympics have their own opening and closing ceremonies

KnittingAnOlympicGold · 12/08/2012 23:42

I asked about this on another thread but someone did, sensibly, point out that if you had the closing ceremony for both Olympics after the paralympics then the athletes from this one would have to hang around for 3 weeks - not to mention where you'd put them all!

I think it would be nice in years to come if the two Olympics were held together but I guess they would have to get rid of a lot of the peripheral sports to enable so many athletes to be involved at once.

ekidna · 12/08/2012 23:50

Yanbu.
Totally outrageous.
Sort the logistics.
Fgs it is sooooooo wrong.

nulgirl · 12/08/2012 23:56

I don't understand why people think that they should be delayed. Why would thousands of athletes/ coaches etc from across the world all hang around in London for several more weeks (at huge cost) with nothing to do just to attend a party? And if the athletes aren't there then it is totally pointless.

ekidna · 13/08/2012 00:00

And the para-athletes aren't athletes?
Pathetic world we live in

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 13/08/2012 00:01

There is a seperate torch relay and ceremonies. I think they are different events, so think it appropriate they close this Olympics and open the paraolympics when the time is right.

fivegomadindorset · 13/08/2012 00:01

THEY HAVE THEIR OWN OPENING AND CLOSING CERMONIES< WHERE HAVE YOU LOT BEEN FOR TEH LAST 20 YEARS>?

nulgirl · 13/08/2012 00:03

Yes but they haven't competed yet. As other posters have said the paralympics have their own opening and closing ceremony. Can't understand why you think it is pathetic. Is it because you think that the Paralympics is an afterthought and not as important?

olibeansmummy · 13/08/2012 00:04

The Paralympics do have their own opening and closing ceremony, but you can bet it won't be as big as the olympic ceremonies. I think the best thing the British public can do is get right behind the Paralympics and show it the same support we've shown the Olympics and hopefully leave a legacy of inclusion for all.

fivegomadindorset · 13/08/2012 00:05

In Bejing 150,000 tickets sold for Pralympics, this year 2.5 million already sold. a legacy in itself.

fivegomadindorset · 13/08/2012 00:06

And still trying to get some

DamnBamboo · 13/08/2012 00:06

Err, they are two separate events!

Got it's own closing and opening ceremony too.

There, there... all better now

ekidna · 13/08/2012 00:06

When the time is right and values evolve, a capital p will also be used and the stage and event will be shared

DamnBamboo · 13/08/2012 00:07

I sooo hope it sells out.
We have gots lots, bought them in preference to the Olympics and we're all so exicted.

ekidna · 13/08/2012 00:10

Erm missing point...I know thei at separate ceremonies bu wtf??!!

fivegomadindorset · 13/08/2012 00:12

Explain?

DamnBamboo · 13/08/2012 00:12

How is this missing the point?
What has the closing ceremony of one event, got to do with the athletes of the other?

fivegomadindorset · 13/08/2012 00:12

They share the same stage, really don't get what your problem is?

KnittingAnOlympicGold · 13/08/2012 00:12

5gomad, not sure why the need to shout? I think the point some of us were making is that it would be nice if they weren't separate events but actually held together.

It doesn't show a lack of understanding of anything to ask that Hmm.

I have tickets for the Paralympics and am very excited about it - I too hope that GB gets behind the athletes in the same way.

KnittingAnOlympicGold · 13/08/2012 00:14

Of course they don't share the same stage - there were no Paralympic athletes there tonight were there?

ekidna · 13/08/2012 00:14

Should be at same event

fivegomadindorset · 13/08/2012 00:14

It does show a lack of understanding.

DamnBamboo · 13/08/2012 00:14

Who on earth is saying the paralympic atheletes aren't athletes?

Of course they are, they are competing in a separate event.

Am I actually missing something here?
