wankpants · 11/08/2012 23:40

I have enjoyed it, but am ready for it to end now, as I am currently stuck at work again because of it on a sat night.

I am really looking forward to the paralympics!

MCos · 12/08/2012 00:45

I'm across in Emerald Isle. Been loving it. Really enjoyed having those 'there is NOTHING on TV' moments being filled by Olympics.

Great medal haul by UK. Congrats. And one of the best ever showings by an Irish team. Go Katie!

I'm fine with it continuing until Christmas!

MCos · 12/08/2012 00:50

Oh, and must add.

I loved it when Jamacian team thanked the people of London last night. Was great that the athletes were made to feel so welcome, AND that they recognized that fact on Live TV.

And love it that I can watch many events live!

My favorite Olympics to date.

tethersphotofinish · 12/08/2012 00:55

I was so cynical about the whole thing.

I live very close to the park and was dreading it, TBH.

I can honestly say that during the last two weeks, there is nowhere in the world I'd rather have been. It has been fantastic; like a holiday on our doorstep.

Everyone in London is happy Shock

I think they may have to put Prozac in the water supply to help us come to terms with the disappointment of them ending...

WorraLiberty · 12/08/2012 01:03

tethers according to my DH, a 'good riot' will clear the air Grin

tethersphotofinish · 12/08/2012 01:07

Ha, I thought the same Worra- I reckon by next week it will have KICKED OFF Grin

AmIthatbad · 12/08/2012 01:30

I have loved every minute (other than Macca)

I am so proud to be British right now

balotelli · 12/08/2012 07:00

Its been awesome.

Inspired me to start playing badminton again at 48!

So proud to be british and living in the most successful county Yorkshire.

Cant wait for paralympics.

DD(3) has made every one in the house silver medals!!!!! with no help .

SamuelWestsMistress · 12/08/2012 08:12

It's been incredible I've been completely hooked!

I was feeling exhausted of it all before it even started and although I do like a few of the sports I had no intention of watching anything else. Well, I've had ALL the channels in and have asorbed as much of it as I possibly could. The tv went on at 7am and off at 11pm and I haven't seen any channel outwith the BBC for 15 days!! I've had to fit my days around schedules I've been that into it!

Just brilliant.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/08/2012 08:34

I loved it. I wasn't a doubter possibly because I had managed to get tickets in the second round of the ballot so I knew we were going.

I now have to sort through a pile of dodgy tat memorabilia to make memory boxes for the children.

I am proud of Team GB and I am proud of the way Britain has got behind these games.

Fireandashes · 12/08/2012 08:52

Great post Empress.

I wasnt a doubter but was more enthused by the idea than the actual sports IYSWIM (other than equestrianism which is my "thing") but I have loved every minute. I've been cheering on people I've never heard of doing arcane things I never knew existed! Such a mix of big-ticket headlines - Mo, Jess, Bolt, Wiggo etc - alongside little unexpected magic moments - Kat Copeland's reaction to winning gold, the cheer for the female Saudi runner crossing the line.

I've never known such a feel-good atmosphere amidst so many people who wouldn't normally be interested in sport. It's been brilliant.

I'm dreading the return to normality....incessant bad news, crap on the TV...I'll definitely be suffering from POS (Post-Olympic Slump) after tonight.

Nancy66 · 12/08/2012 09:23

I'm glad the doubters have been converted. I was getting really pissed off at all the anti Olympic threads...BEFORE it had even started.

I think it's been a triumph and has totally lifted the mood of a nation.

I've been and in one day I met and chatted to: a family from Russia, a young couple from Colombia, a woman from Japan and another family from Spain.
When's that ever going to happen again?

ViviPru · 12/08/2012 09:27

I could watch BBC Olympic montages all day. Great for a nice self-indulgent emo up.

ElephantsCanRemember · 12/08/2012 09:28

I agree Nancy. I think it has been amazing and will probably never happen again in our DC lifetime.

ElephantsCanRemember · 12/08/2012 09:29

Sorry, I meant it will be probably never be in London again in our DC lifetime. Definitely a one off.

LarkinSky · 12/08/2012 09:40

I've never really watched Olympic sport before, except the opening ceremonies past. I've utterly loved every minute of London2012, watched nothing else on TV and was lucky enough to go to London for a few days and attend an event.

I just have a growing melancholy that, although there will be Olympics every 4 years, I'll probably never again see one in the UK. And I think no other country could put Games like ours on. When it's over it's over. Forever. And while Brazil has pots more money than the UK (worlds 5th largest economy?) the Rio games just won't have the character of London and I won't be as emotionally involved. Yes, please bring on the Prozac in the water please...

GoCavWiggoMillarFroomeetal · 12/08/2012 10:10

I too was a bit of a doubter- living in London I was very cynical about Boris/TfL telling me to Get Ahead of the Games by avoiding public transport Hmm. I am also absolutely crap at sport and spent my teenage years avoiding it when I could.

Fast-forward to the opening ceremony and I was sitting on the floor with a glass of fizz, glued to the TV, frantically making a banner for the roadrace the next day. Over the last two weeks I've thrown myself into London 2012. I've stood in the crowds at the Mall and Hampton Court to cheer on our road cyclists and met some lovely mnetters. Thanks to MrGoCav's foresight (and ballot luck!) I was lucky enough to be in the stadium for the first Super Saturday and saw Rutherford, Ennis and Farrah win gold- the atmosphere was electric!!!

For the last 2 weeks I've either been watching the olympics (streaming it at work ) or following it on Twitter, until 11pm at night. I'm just so proud of TeamGB and as a trainee teacher can't wait to build on my class's new found enthusiasm for sport!

Can MN organise group therapy for the comedown next week please?!

balotelli · 12/08/2012 18:46

No comedown.... Paralympics start soon!!!!

Even more amazing awe inspiring, heart warming, tear jerking moments.

ViviPru · 12/08/2012 19:00

We went to the local forestry commission for a cycle today and On at least 3 occasions I heard different parents say to their kids stuff like 'who d'you think you are? Mo Farah?" And "come on, Chris Hoy, catch up!" and the like. It's just brilliant.

BlingBubbles · 12/08/2012 19:03

Loved, loved, loved it! Showcased the country so well, organised brilliantly and most importantly seems to have inspired a nation of people Grin

Can't wait to see the closing ceremony tonight

SoleSource · 12/08/2012 19:08

I am gutted it is over. Nooooo really looking forward to 9pm.

jellybeans · 12/08/2012 19:11

I have loved it too. Never really got into it before but am converted now! Can't wait for next one.

doinmummy · 12/08/2012 19:17

I've already got a massive lump in my throat at the thought of it finishing.

I have loved every minute of it and I cant understand why I dont remember anything about the Beijin games.

manicinsomniac · 12/08/2012 19:18

I actually don't know how I'm going to cope without the olympics now! (yes, I am sad!)

I know there's the paralympics but it won't be the same. 4 years to wait - wahhhhh!

RuleBritannia · 12/08/2012 19:25

This country knows how to organise big events.
