Ok first off sorry for typos I'm on my phone.

DD2 just came in from the garden saying girl next door wants her to go round and play because she's on her own. so I popped out and according to child ( lets call her daisy) her mum dad and brother have gone for a walk without her and told her to stay in the house.

She won't come round here as she's been told not to leave the house, at 5 has no real knowledge of how long they have been etc and I can't leave my house too much as I have 3DCs with me.

My plan is to knock every 5 minutes for the next half hour and then panic or sit with DC in the street until and her at the door until parents arrive. any better ideas? I don't know if I'm panicing and should ignore but surely at 5 Daisys too young to be left.

Call police. If some dreadful emergency caused them to forget her (?!?) they will be grateful she is looked after and if they left her intentionally they need a serious talking too

ImperialBlether · 11/08/2012 18:50

You don't actually know how long she was alone for before she asked your daughter to play.

bunnywhack · 11/08/2012 18:50

you should call them anyway whether you can get her round yours or not. You don't know when they will be back

squeakytoy · 11/08/2012 18:50

Just call the bloody police. The poor kid will probably just get a bollocking if they come home and she is your house. With a visit from the police they might think twice before being such twats again.

ImperialBlether · 11/08/2012 18:51

Sorry, was thinking they'd gone to the shops.

Poppylovescheese · 11/08/2012 18:51

Agree with squeakytoy

LouYK · 11/08/2012 18:52

*to

Birdsgottafly · 11/08/2012 18:52

If you do want to call someone, make it the police, they will be there within minutes.

I wouldn't keep getting her to answer the door, if she hurts herself doing so, you will be asked what you were thinking in doing this.

It has been half an hour since your first post, so quite jusifiable.

ImperialBlether · 11/08/2012 18:53

Either way, I reckon she'll get into trouble from her parents.

squeakytoy · 11/08/2012 18:53

No matter what the "emergency" was, there is no excuse at all for leaving a 5yo alone in the house.

They could have knocked on your door and asked you to have her, which any reasonable neighbour would be happy to do in an emergency, or she should be with them, no way should she be on her own in the house.

morethanpotatoprints · 11/08/2012 18:54

I would call Police now, you don't know how long the mother has been gone.

Birdsgottafly · 11/08/2012 18:54

Do not take her to yours, next time she will be told to keep quite about being on her own, which she may do even if she has an accident.

If a child is alone, you either take action, or keep an eye and ear out.

TheMonster · 11/08/2012 18:55

That's shocking. We're getting our five year old ready for bed. (I say 'we', but I am clearly busy and DP is doing it)

I would never leave him home alone.

CaptainHetty · 11/08/2012 18:55

She's been in the house at least half an hour on her own. Before bringing her into your house I'd call the police and inform them, and ask for advice on whether to bring her into your home or not. It may be better if she's still there but being kept an eye on - you don't want pissed off parents making stupid allegations about you removing her from the house.

McHappyPants2012 · 11/08/2012 18:56

There is no excus for leaving a 5 year old home alone.

They have done this on purpose as she was given instruction not to leave the house

laurenamium · 11/08/2012 18:56

birds just said what I tried to say- but more succinctly!

bunnywhack · 11/08/2012 18:56

Grin @ EEyore snap

peggyblackett · 11/08/2012 18:57

Please call the police Ana. There are no excuses for leaving a 5 year old alone - ever.

ImperialBlether · 11/08/2012 18:57

I'm amazed anyone can do this, particularly when something awful is in the news relating to harm to children.

Poppylovescheese · 11/08/2012 18:58

Any update???

AndWhenYouGetThere · 11/08/2012 18:58

She's still there, they aren't back, and she's definitely alone?

The time for "waiting it out" has passed.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 11/08/2012 18:58

Hopefully the OP is on the phone to the police!

LouYK · 11/08/2012 18:59

Happypants, of course, they told her not to leave. Forgot. Bloody hell, this is outrageous! What on earth will be their justification

Lilithmoon · 11/08/2012 18:59

Phone the police.... dreadful parents :)

butisthismyname · 11/08/2012 18:59

I agree call the police - I;m getting myself in a state about a cat that seems to have been left alone with only one visit to be fed by someone - let alone a child :(
