Ok, so I know team GB are doing great in the Olympics but come on for f**ks sake ITV....we've had about 4 Olympic stories before Tia Sharp has been mentioned ! Am I the only one that thinks a little missing girl is more important than the Olympic bloody games !?

Surely the police will be releasing as much information as will be considered necessary

madda · 09/08/2012 22:51

if it is so heavily publicised in the local area it can only be a good thing, as if the culprit is a local, pls note I am not saying a family member, then it can only be SO long before the pressure of being surrounded by so much hype and publicity on this can make them crack up, and begin behaving differently...

Viviennemary · 09/08/2012 22:52

I think the police are working quietly and methodically behind the scenes and probably would rather not play the whole thing out in front of the media. Even though with the scrum of photographers they don't seem to have much choice.

RavenVonChaos · 09/08/2012 22:53

I am glad to have two weeks free from miserable news coverage. Don't worry it will all be back to normal soon, which is when I shall stop watching telly.

WithoutCaution · 09/08/2012 22:54

I think that a special needs teenage boy is also missing but I haven't seen the news so don't know if it has had any air time

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 09/08/2012 22:55

Apologies if my presence is offending you Hmm Personally I find the speculation that this poor girl is dead/her family are acting suspiciously/things just aren't right and the conspiracy theories both vulgar, voyeuristic and disgusting.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 09/08/2012 22:56

Terrible sentence construction but it makes me cross. The majority of people don't even know what the 2's are.

elizaregina · 09/08/2012 22:57

I dont think coverage has been different to joanna yates nor soham murders...

It has been covered on national news.

We have all been reminded of it tonight.

watching footage of ian huntley and maxine carr talking about holly wells and jessica chapman last week - also urging them to " just come home"...just seems odd to me.

RubyFakeNails · 09/08/2012 22:59

Yes the Olympics are constantly on the news but if you only follow one news source it tends to be updates, there are constant changes. Boxing gold earlier, 200m later. Also it's an international event.

Missing child case hasn't really changed in status, if it needed to be top story and more publicity it would have it in an instant. Madeleine McCann was much younger, there was almost zero possibility she had run away, it happened across countries meaning more were automatically aware, she had professional parents and the whole thing played out like a show, mainly with the involvement of the portuguese police. Thats why the story was so big for so long. now its finally been accepted she is obviously dead the story has died down much more.

The thing with Syria is othings happening the UN still haven't really taken the necessary steps, thanks to mainly Russia and while it is absolutely dreadful, we are becoming desensitised to it because of the lack of change and continuously horrible images. I think it might be good that it's not top story. Hopefully it will bring us crashing back down to earth post games.

madda · 09/08/2012 23:01

but youre still reading this thread though, slightlysuperior, are you not?

madda · 09/08/2012 23:03

yes eliza, I thought that too - why would a 12 yr old be watching the news? wouldnt you be directing the public viewers with your questions, not telling the girl something? Dont get it.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 09/08/2012 23:04

Yes, just to pick fights and avoid going to sleep so will hide now.

Don't forget to inform the police once you've solved it.

squeakytoy · 09/08/2012 23:07

"why would a 12 yr old be watching the news? wouldnt you be directing the public viewers with your questions, not telling the girl something? Dont get it"

It is standard psychological tactics. It is meant to appeal to the hostage taker that the child is real, belongs to someone, etc.

There is of course also a slight chance, especially with a 12yo that they could have run away, and be somewhere that has a tv on.

squeakytoy · 09/08/2012 23:09

And, it is also part of the process that the police use to profile the family, watch their behaviour, and experts will analyse that too. Liars are soon found out and no better way than putting them under pressure. (I am not saying that any of the family are lying either, just that it is one of the methods that the police will use amongst others).

True Squeaky,

Hadnt thought that they had been told to speak like that by police experts.

Its just than karen mathews and Maxine carr said same things...I havant seen others do that but havant paid close attention to other cases etc....

If she had wanted to run away - wouldnt the family admit that though? Say they had an argument etc....

elizaregina · 09/08/2012 23:11

And, it is also part of the process that the police use to profile the family,

very interesting, hadnt thought of that either.

squeakytoy · 09/08/2012 23:14

Tracey Andrews, the woman who murdered her boyfriend, but said it was a road rage killer was one of the first I remember to be caught out in this way.

elizaregina · 09/08/2012 23:15

Squeaky

You seem to have more insight on this and the tactics used, may I ask if you are in the field at all!

squeakytoy · 09/08/2012 23:15

I think I watch far too many crime documentaries and have always been interested in criminal psychology and forensics.

squeakytoy · 09/08/2012 23:15

Cross post but answers the question. :)

elizaregina · 09/08/2012 23:16

well thanks for your insight!

Megan74 · 09/08/2012 23:20

I agree with RubyFakeNails.

squeakytoy · 09/08/2012 23:20

I just hope she is found safe and well very soon.

She lived between two homes in close areas but a couple of miles apart, so it is possible she has friends in both areas and someone is covering up for her if she thinks she is in trouble for something, but the longer it goes on, I imagine that is less likely.

elizaregina · 09/08/2012 23:24

Yes me too squeaky as I am sure are all the others on this thread - praying this poor girl has just run away and is with freinds.

You have put my mind at rest a bit with the t shirt thing and profiling.

When I feel distressed at times like this - it comforts me to try and work out what is going on.
