Ok, so I know team GB are doing great in the Olympics but come on for f**ks sake ITV....we've had about 4 Olympic stories before Tia Sharp has been mentioned ! Am I the only one that thinks a little missing girl is more important than the Olympic bloody games !?

I'm sure it was on the radio 2 news today I heard something about it that just didn't sit right. They said that the same police that solved the Shannon Matthews case have been drafted in. I was expecting them to say something like 'not that they think it's going to end the same way' (but obviously in a better manner) but they didn't.

Mrsjay · 09/08/2012 22:36

They said that the same police that solved the Shannon Matthews case have been drafted in.

Oh Shock

madda · 09/08/2012 22:36

plus, why all the t- shirts, so suddenly, so similar to the housefire parents etc

I dont think printing a tshirt would be top of my things to do if my kid went missing?

yes, I get that they want max publicity, but dont get the super fast production of tshirts

FrankelSaysRelax · 09/08/2012 22:37

Quite often the Police will stop putting out new information in an effort to flush out a suspect. As others have said, if the Police wanted it to be headline news, it would be.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 09/08/2012 22:37

Hmm Can we please not do the Miss Marple thing?

MrsKeithRichards · 09/08/2012 22:38

It just seemed like an odd thing to say.

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 22:38

My first thought was that she probably met someone on the internet and "eloped" - there was 12yo girl and an American serviceman, maybe 8 years back?

elizaregina · 09/08/2012 22:38

Mrskeith

Really, a shiver has gone down my spine, it just feels so similar the pleading for her to come home as in shannon case, when for goodness sake why arnt you expecting her to want too unless she said she is running away.

Something doesnt sit right at all.

Scarredbutnotbroken · 09/08/2012 22:38

yanbu - i thought the same - esp compared to other high profile missing children - i cynically though gosh is she too old for it to be a huge story like others have been

i did also think from the few news reports that its leaning toward it being a family member etc that has taken her

Lixa · 09/08/2012 22:40

But it's called the News, not the List Of Things In Order Of Their Merit - things keep happening at the Olympics, and nothing new is happening in the missing girl case. That's why it's further down the running order, that's all. What's wrong with that? It doesn't mean Usain Bolt is more important than a missing child.

squeakytoy · 09/08/2012 22:41

Well that is one good thing possibly, because Shannon Matthews was still alive, and was just being held so that her mother could get some money. So hopefully that could indicate that Tia is still alive too.

PenisVanLesbian · 09/08/2012 22:42

You want "no news on ongoing situation: kid still missing" to be the first headline every single day?
Why?

MrsKeithRichards · 09/08/2012 22:44

PENIS we had that for a good couple of years with Madeleine McCann

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 22:44

Toby Studabaker

that was the bloke

elizaregina · 09/08/2012 22:45

madda

I thought that too -where all the t shirts are from,if my DD went missing I would have no clue as to where to suddenly organise t shirts and get them from.

who khnows maybe someone approached them who has a t shirt factory? or printing thing...it does seem odd.

squeakytoy · 09/08/2012 22:46

"I dont think printing a tshirt would be top of my things to do if my kid went missing"

loads of printing companies in the local area, it would take no time at all for a local business to run off a load of tshirts

madda · 09/08/2012 22:48

but really? would you print tshirts if your kid was missing? Yes for publicity, but really? is it more common to do this than I realise?

Olympia2012 · 09/08/2012 22:48

Has Karen Matthews been released... She is due to be. There was a documentary on about her this afternoon..,, her friend said police asked them not to search in case they disturbed a crime scene..... So they got t shirts printed instead.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 09/08/2012 22:48

She went missing nearly a week ago and it's only been on the TV news in the past few days.

Before people get carried away with who looks dodgy based on a 30 second news report, please can we just remember that a real 12yo girl is missing and real people are going through hell. Ta.

EnjoyResponsibly · 09/08/2012 22:48

I know about Tia. So terribly worrying.

I know about Syria. Horrific and appalling.

I'm enjoying the Olympics and the feeling of happiness it's brought me. It's not that I don't care about the other stuff, I have head room for both. Bit like the news content tonight.

Olympia2012 · 09/08/2012 22:49

I would imagine well meaning friends organised it

In Matthews case, asda did them.

Lixa · 09/08/2012 22:49

I should have said "it doesn't mean that Usain Bolt's TITLE is more important than a missing child" - obv Usain Bolt is as important as anyone else ;)

madda · 09/08/2012 22:49

slightlysuperior - leave the thread then, it is people trying to put 2 and 2 together

we are not, nor do we intend to denigrate the family or anything else

stop lowering the tone of the discussion if you will

squeakytoy · 09/08/2012 22:49

It has been on the news down here since the day after she went missing. There were posters up by the Sunday and there are a lot of police on patrol in the area, PCO's all over the parks and places where kids are hanging around during the day in the holidays. It is very very high profile around here.

elizaregina · 09/08/2012 22:50

Madda I know what you mean it seems odd and sort of the thing to do ...

I suspect though it IS a good way of raising awareness to people who for instance dont watch our TV, diff language or culture - and it might make them think why are people wearing t shirts and remember girl...

keeps it fresh in locals minds...

with shannon history it seems a bit too organised though...
