to think that animals shouldn't wear clothes?

It's a bit fucked up really isn't it? What kind of person thinks it's a good idea to take an animal that has evolved quite happily to not need clothes and dress them up? Plus it really creeps me out!

Dogs don't need clothes!

Cats don't need clothes!

Horses don't like fancy dress!

he wants to know what he did to deserve this

That picture you linked to looks very much like my dog.

OMG, I want that outfit for one of my cats...

never mind...

mercury7 · 09/08/2012 16:30

I think putting clothes on them is pretty mild compared to the sort of treatment that some animals have to put up with.

I may be wrong but doubt that dogs have the cognitive ability to feel a sense of absurdity or indignity.

How can you tell that a horse doesnt like fancy dress?
Are you one of those horse whisperers?

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/08/2012 16:30

Awww that cat looks so cute.
The horse looks silly, just a bit undignified IMO Grin

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 09/08/2012 16:32

Look at the last horse pic. Have you ever seen such a miserable animal?

CakeBump · 09/08/2012 16:33

All animals should be forced to wear fancy dress, even farm animals.

It would make life (especially in the countryside) so much brighter and more fun!

I once tried to get my dog into an elf's hat mind you, and he nearly took my arm off.... Sad

On the basis that I have been laughing my head off at the pictures I would have to say YABU Grin

CookieRookie · 09/08/2012 16:34

On the fence I think. Will have to watch and see what other arguments are put forward.

See it much like this until someone can say why it's cruel: Looking at that picture I wonder what harm it's doing? He/she looks like a curious little chappy/lady. People who abuse and neglect their animals tend not to dress them up for a family picture (because they are family)being more inclined to starve and beat them.

Also we see lots of parents around halloween dressing their dc up as pumpkins, scarecrows and the like. I never think "poor baby" rather "so cute".

Dogs imo are part of the family and if it's okay to dress up the dc than it's okay to dress up the dog.

I saw a tutu for rats recently,
I'm going to get my rat one.

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 16:34

I worked with a childless woman in her 50's who doted on her yorkie (and Cliff Richard). She used to take the damned dog to Harrods and buy it staggeringly expensive outfit, like leather flying jackets, aviator goggles etc, trott off to the local photographer and have calenders made Hmm

Fortunately I was never a recipient of this foolishness Grin

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 09/08/2012 16:35

But it's creepy!

OP posts:
FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 09/08/2012 16:37

this haunts my dreams

OP posts:
TheCraicDealer · 09/08/2012 16:37

Creepy....or cute?

mercury7 · 09/08/2012 16:38

the pictures make me cringe, but it would be anthropomorphic of me to imagine that the animals are suffering because humans think they look silly

wildfig · 09/08/2012 16:38

My dog likes to wear a large velvet Dave Allen-style bowtie for very formal occasions, such as New Year's Eve or a royal wedding. (But nowhere posh - it's a ready-tied one on elastic, not a proper one. Blush)

wildfig · 09/08/2012 16:40

But generally, YANBU. Dressing up animals makes the owner look more daft than the poor Yorkshire terrier in the tutu.

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 09/08/2012 16:42

farm4.static.flickr.com/3180/2964426035_cc1f7fe6ab.jpg how is this dignified?

yellowraincoat · 09/08/2012 16:47

I don't like the idea of putting stuff on my pet and laughing at him. Because that's what it is really.

mercury7 · 09/08/2012 16:49

but do you think your pet suffers if you laugh at it?
