to think that animals shouldn't wear clothes?

It's a bit fucked up really isn't it? What kind of person thinks it's a good idea to take an animal that has evolved quite happily to not need clothes and dress them up? Plus it really creeps me out!

Dogs don't need clothes!

Cats don't need clothes!

Horses don't like fancy dress!

he wants to know what he did to deserve this

YANBU.

Like you have said, they don't need it. They will probably be overheating in the clothes. If you want them to look cute, put a nice little colourful bell on their collar or something, don't make them wear a cowboys hat or chicken suit, it's just not fair on the poor animals.

I don't find the pictures cute, nor creepy just pretty pointless!

Fireandashes · 09/08/2012 20:27

I don't think it necessarily hurts the animal - although it might make it uncomfortably warm or cause a little stress through being restrained while the clothing is put on - but I would never do it. One of the reasons I love my dog and cats is because they look like a dog and cats, not little furry humans. Animals dressed in human clothing (as opposed to traditional rugs/coats with a welfare purpose i.e. warmth or high-viz) make me cringe. IMO it's twee and a little disrespectful.

rainydaysarebad · 09/08/2012 20:29

Primark always come out with clothes for pets at Halloween and Christmas. I hate it. It's a form if abuse IMO.

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 09/08/2012 20:33

Thepig - err that's that's the point of an in joke. You're not meant to find it funny because you weren't there when the original joke was made.

I wouldn't find it funny on another dog, and I wouldn't buy a similar top with a different slogan. Just that one was funny.

They didn't have it in his size anyway so he didn't get one.

sweetkitty · 09/08/2012 20:35

My SIL has a chihuahua, it has more clothes than me. It's a male (horny shag neverything thing she refuses to get it done) it wears pink sparkly collars and WAG in training tops. It's just wrong.

ThePigOnTheWall · 09/08/2012 20:40

Err...queen...it's not exactly the most subtle of in jokes is it? I don't think it would take the wit of Oscar Wilde to work out the subtleties at play there Hmm

Sorry it's naff. It's not funny. And it makes you look like a prat, not the dog

toboldlygo · 09/08/2012 20:44

Picture on profile of my poor abused dog wearing a jumper.

(It's a fleece wicking jumper, they wear them after racing to help dry them out and keep them warm, they can come back soaked and exhausted and have to overnight in crates in the dog van)

Slogan t-shirts (with the exception of 'Please adopt me' type stuff for rescues), fancy dress, pink glittery crap... no. Just no.

SarahStratton · 09/08/2012 20:49

LittleDog wears clothes. I dress him in tshirts, dungarees, fleeces, a few animal print ones and a lovely 70s style pink tracksuit thing etc. He has a basket that I keep his clothes in, and I just let him chose what he wants to wear.

He does his happy dance when I put the basket down, then he rummages, and pulls out what he wants to wear.

He's half Chinese Crested, half Yorkie (well that's what Valhalla and I have come up with, nobody's too sure of his actual parentage. He would either burn or freeze if he didn't wear clothes. And he positively enjoys wearing them.

GeometricGiraffe · 09/08/2012 20:58

What's with the outfits of other animals for dogs?

If you want your dog to look like a sheep, buy a fucking sheep.

With the exception of winter coats for small or hairless dogs, YANBU.

toboldlygo · 09/08/2012 21:05

"If you want your dog to look like a sheep, buy a fucking sheep."

Or a Bedlington terrier. Grin

SarahStratton · 09/08/2012 21:07

Photo of LittleDog wearing his frog coat in my photos. He looks really distressed.

And, of course, it's not easy finding a lead and collar for an actual frog. Plus they're not too good at going for walks.

GeometricGiraffe · 09/08/2012 21:18

But you wouldn't put a lead on a frog or take it for a walk.

You'd give it a pond.

SarahStratton · 09/08/2012 21:20

That's why I've got a dog. So I can take it for a walk.

Shelly32 · 09/08/2012 21:22

What on earth did dogs do before clothes were invented for them. Freeze to death from the sound of things Hmm

SarahStratton · 09/08/2012 21:28

No, they just weren't bred to be half bald would be my guess. We practically invented dogs. Wolves don't need coats, and neither do dogs that have decent, natural coats.

Unfortunately, not all dogs have that advantage.

Shelly32 · 09/08/2012 21:33

Well pretty stupid and selfish imo if you live in a colder climate ,to buy a dog that wasn't meant to be in a colder climate.

ratspeaker · 09/08/2012 21:35

I gave oor rabbit a right ticking of when he ran off with my bra

SarahStratton · 09/08/2012 21:36

He's a rescue dog. Nobody wanted him because he looked ugly as fuck. And yes, it's ridiculous to breed dogs that are disadvantaged like that.

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/08/2012 21:39

I think LittleDog is a rescue Shelly, and an unknown breed.
Sarah, he is a boy, he needs butcher clothes.
Has he got a bomber jacket, or a cool hoody or something?
All the girl dogs will snigger at him.

Shelly32 · 09/08/2012 21:39

Just re read the thread and seen the pics of your dog. He is very cute (not ugly!)and those outfits are adorable. Damn!!Don't make me back track like that !!!

Shelly32 · 09/08/2012 21:40

I'm a Cheltenham girl so not far from the Cotswolds! shakes hands

SarahStratton · 09/08/2012 21:44

LBE, not only does he have Doggles (see photo), he has a proper dog bomber jacket to match. And he's very comfortable with his sexuality. Grin

I'm a Lincolnshire Wolds girl Shelly. But us Wolders should stick together take it back about the dog clothes damn you.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/08/2012 21:44

My 2 male guinea-pigs loved their Santa Hats last Christmas and kept them on for ooooohh well over 2.4 seconds. Just long enough to take a picture for the screensavers.

Little Buggers didn't bring me any Christmas presents though
And if an annual dress up is the price they pay for having me as their mother, then it's a good deal IMO Grin

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 09/08/2012 21:47

Oh stratters... And to think I respected you.
