very overexcited gold medal winner

How nice to have someone so totally overwhelmed with delight :)

The only gold Canada have won was in trampolining and on tv they showed you the girls parents when they were waiting for the results. Sitting behind them in the stand was a british family (well they had team gb tshirts on) and they had clearly got chatting and had got swept along with cheering for the canadian and went about as berserk as the canadians when she won. It was just so nice to see the whole "olympic spirit" that these people in the crowd could take a wee canadian girl to their hearts like she was their own. But Im a big softy!

rollmeover - my brother was in the stadium on Tuesday evening and I think (judging from his text messages) he's a bit in love with Usain Bolt now. Which will be news to his fiancee Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 11/08/2012 11:50

lljkk - the olympic committee said they were planning to stop Saudi Arabia from competing if they didn't include women in their team. It wasn't like she got an idea off her own bat and fancied making a statement, it's a fairly big issue and she and her team mate (who's only 16, brave girl) were allowed to compete despite not qualifying at the usual level.

I enjoyed watching Attar's clip but my absolute favourite was the tiny men's super-lightweigh judo - this tiny bloke leapt onto his coach and hugged him, not just with his arms but with his legs off the ground and wrapped around the other guy! So cute and so funny.

I like that usain bolt did the 'mobot' M. Move when the Jamaicans won the relay.

I've loved lots of moments but enjoyed Tom Daley's pure delight at taking a bronze in the diving tonight. He jumped in the pool with all his teammates!

Loved Aly Raisman's parents, and Chris Hoy's mum too, and Denise Lewis am me laugh in the commentary box.

I was really happy to see Aliya Mustafina of Russia take home more gymnastics medals than any other gymnast at the games, male or female, only eighteen months or so after tearing her ACL at Europeans and needing eight months of rehab before she could train properly again. Fighting spirit for sure.

And loved Jess Ennis putting on the extra spurt too - that's what the Olympics should be about, going to the absolute max.

I was asking to DH tonight about Mo too - loved his quote about it being hard work and grafting. What a fantastic role model for kids. I know Bolt is amazing and a real charismatic individual but I think Mo's message is so inspirational for children - it takes hard work but you can get there.

yellowraincoat · 12/08/2012 08:32

We have a lot of really great athletes this time. I agree that Mo is such an inspiration (and normally I hate that kind of word, so over-used and frequently unrealistic). Beautiful smile too! And his wife is adorable.

Tom Daley's utter delight in winning bronze was great to see when so many have been gutted at winning silver or bronze. The Chinese guy who got silver in the diving was crying! What on earth is that about? Of course they all want gold, but it's still such a huge achievement to get silver/bronze, even to be in the final or at the Olympics at all.

KittyFane1 · 12/08/2012 08:55

I thought the silver medalist was crying with happiness! :o

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 12/08/2012 09:09

I think Michael Johnson after being caught the first time in the commentary box screaming at the 10k metres was funny. Why? Cos everytime Denise & Colin went mental from then on, he was sat there desparately trying to remain cool and not embarrass himself again.

lazarusb · 12/08/2012 09:30

I loved Mo's face as he crossed the finish line last night Grin Absolutely beautiful!
Was really pleased for Tom too, he seemed genuinely happy and pleased at what he had achieved. Hope his Dad was watching, wherever he is now.

grimbletart · 12/08/2012 11:49

loved it when Mo was asked by a journalist whether he wouldn't have preferred running for Somalia. "No, this is my country" said Mo.

Frontpaw · 12/08/2012 11:57

I liked the female rower in the twos who looked like someone had just told her that she had sprouted wings and could fly to the moon. Pure joy and disbelief. I was bawling!

BeaWheesht · 12/08/2012 12:17

Tom Daly last night was very moving.

Greg Robertson when he was being interviewed after getting Gold was very sweet too. (That is his name isn't it? I'm sleep deprived and doubting myself!!)

GetOrfMoiRing · 12/08/2012 12:24

Greg Rutherford is the lovely long jumper - he was so delighted wasn't he?

I thought the crowds cheering on the Irish female boxer were awful, really, they booed every move her Russian opponent made. It's the only thing I really didn't enjoy watching.

That is a lovely story about the Canadian trampolining gold.

yellowraincoat · 12/08/2012 12:40

Oh I didn't see people booing at the boxer, that's horrible. My friend went to see volleyball, the Brazilian fans were booing every time the other team had the ball. Just stupid behaviour. I was quite proud (and I don't really do national pride) when I was watching the cycling road race and the British fans were cheering everyone who crossed the finish line, especially the ones who had had problems. I like that about the UK.

Ratbag01 · 12/08/2012 14:45

Loved all of it! and I'm not at all a sporty person. Chris Hoy made me cry, when he cried. Michael Phelps was awesome. Loved the clay pigeon shooting Gold medal. Will miss the Olympics! :(

Ratbag01 · 12/08/2012 14:46

Loved Claire Balding; what a fab presenter!

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 12/08/2012 15:10

Balding has been great. I've been really fond of Jakey (Humphrey). Cram and Foster were brilliant last night. Denise Lewis and Colin Jackson have been hilarious. The sailing interviews have been the maddest - I forget the guys name - Walker? And Michael Johnson has just been Mr Cool.

BeaWheesht · 12/08/2012 17:34

I knew it wasn't Robertson!
