to be so disorganised about my holiday?

Mintyy · 08/08/2012 12:09

We are leaving the house 6am Sunday for two weeks in Italy.

So far I have done nothing, NOTHING, not.a.single thing towards this holiday except for arranging pet care and cancelling the milk.

Packing for holidays is my ultimate procrastination project and I always imagine other Mumsnetters are impeccably organised over things like this.

How should I start?

Shall I make a list?

Sirzy · 08/08/2012 12:15

make sure you have been to the shops for any bits you need by 5pm saturday, pack after that sorted! Enjoy your holiday!

Trills · 08/08/2012 12:18

YABU to think you are so disorganised - it's Wednesday.

All you need to do is:
wash stuff (doesn't take 4 days)
buy stuff (also doesn't take 4 days)
put stuff in case (also doesn't take 4 days)

CrispyCod · 08/08/2012 12:19

Always make sure you have the correct documents/money/medications sorted in advance. Doesn't matter if you cock up the other stuff, you can always pick it up at the airport or destination.

Mintyy · 08/08/2012 12:32

Actually, it is the washing that's quite daunting Blush. I have to wash and pack for 4 of us, wish I could just be casual and gung-ho about it!

4 suitcases worth of clothes can't be more than 4 loads of washing, probably less.

Pandemoniaa · 08/08/2012 12:33

I'm worse. We're leaving for Italy in 2 weeks and haven't booked anything yet! Let alone considered any packing.

Mrsjay · 08/08/2012 12:34

mintyy i do understand i find it very overwhelming too i know its daft but i cant help it Blush

Mintyy · 08/08/2012 12:38

I have to wash whites, jeans and darks, brights, pastels. And a few cardigans too. 5 loads between now and Saturday night. Right, off to put the first load in.

Trills · 08/08/2012 12:46

Oh right, you're one of those people.

Assuming your clothes don't run, because they are not from the 1960s, you can just do white vs colour vs "harsh wash".

TantrumsAndOlympicGoldBalloons · 08/08/2012 12:55

Brights and pastels?

brights and pastels?

Just sling it all in together.

Yep, just sling it all in.

Mintyy · 08/08/2012 12:58

Yes, I am very much one of those people. Only about laundry, mind.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 08/08/2012 12:59

Why does everything need washing anyway?

Pandemoniaa · 08/08/2012 12:59

If it's only the washing then you've got days and days to worry about it. Even if the weather remains crap. Also, don't be giving yourself extra work with all this brights and pastels business. Sling it all in at a temperature that won't encourage anything from running. Not that clothes do run nowadays.

Mrsjay · 08/08/2012 13:00

OH i am a bung it all int he washing machine kinda gal unless it is newish jeans then they run everything else gets bunged in ,

Sirzy · 08/08/2012 13:01

I separate coloured and whites but thats as far as my seperating washes goes!

overmydeadbody · 08/08/2012 13:02

Well, we're leaving for holiday tomorrow morning at 6am and I havve not packed yet. All the clothes I want to take are washed, obviously, but I have yet to put anything in a bag or get the camping stuff organised.

wanttomakeadifference · 08/08/2012 13:03

Make a list of what you need to do, to buy, and to pack. That way you can get a better idea of the task and how long it will take. If it all looks simple after writing your list, relax and leave it until saturday.

Double check that you can find important stuff.

Trills · 08/08/2012 13:05

No wonder you have a whole lot of washing to do if you have to wait for a full load of all of those different kinds - if you called "colours" all one thing you could wash little and often.

PatriciaHolm · 08/08/2012 13:06

We're away for 9 nights as of friday and only 2 are booked so far; we're off to France on 25th August and haven't booked anything yet. I don't think I'll start even thinking about packing until friday!

Does everything you want to take need washing?!! I have done one load of washing this morning and the basket is now empty.

Mrsjay · 08/08/2012 13:07

DO what i do buy new packs of pants and socks and put it in the case ,

CotedePentathlon · 08/08/2012 13:08

While the first load is on, make a list. Just two of us nowadays, but when it was the four kids, I separated it out under each persons name, then a list with 'Important Things' (passports, tickets, money, etc) and another 'Miscellaneous', which covered toiletries, cameras, etc. Once everything was ticked, then I knew I was ready.

Also remember that when you're away, even though you may be doing some washing, it's unlikely you'll be ironing stuff, so just dry fold or roll carefully, and pack.

Mrsjay · 08/08/2012 13:08

I wash towels seperate I wait till i have a good load as i like just towels on my washing line , Oh gawd that is venturing into weird isnt it Confused

wanttomakeadifference · 08/08/2012 13:14
