Roffle at "just a plain wedding ring and Rolex".

I suppose any man who can't or won't spend the money on a Rolex isn't worth a second glance then?

RuthlessBaggage · 08/08/2012 16:36

Roffle at cufflinks being stealth bling. Tie pins are for yuppies though.

I know rosaries shouldn't be worn round the neck, but if someone feels strongly enough about his faith to want to wear one then I can tolerate it.

Re watches... I don't wear one at all, and think they look bloody awful incongruous on women dressed up. Watch on your wedding day looks like you forgot to take it off, IMHO. That said, I don't have the same sneering feeling towards women's metal straps that I have towards men's. Silver can be very stylish if it is effectively a nice bracelet with a watch face.

squoosh · 08/08/2012 16:45

But no religious people actually wear rosaries around their neck. Unless the religion is Worshipping at the Altar of Footballer's Dodgy Sarotrial Choices.

squoosh · 08/08/2012 16:48

sartorial

cantspel · 08/08/2012 16:48

But the point is a religious person would never wear a rosary around their necks and anyone who does is making a fashion statement not a religious one.

Ephiny · 08/08/2012 16:49

I grew up in a devout Catholic family and have never seen anyone wear rosary beads around their neck. That sounds very odd. Traditionally I think the nuns would wear them on their belt, but for most people, you'd have them in a little pouch in your pocket or handbag, if you wanted to have them handy.

Interesting about watches - I almost always wear one, but DH insisted I should take it off for our wedding. Maybe he was right after all!

RuthlessBaggage · 08/08/2012 18:38

They do. Not as common (as in widespread) as wearing them for footballer-emulation, but some do. Or round the wrist.

SlightlySquiffy · 08/08/2012 19:05

Round my parts its very expensive watches, your public school class ring, wedding rings and depending on their age, a whole lot of other rings/bracelets/necklaces which I actually think looks very nice, though too trendy for me.

Think Made In Chelsea as opposed to Twiggy in The Royle Family Grin

Numberlock · 08/08/2012 20:31

Aw the actor who played Twiggy died recently, didn't he Slightly. Very sad.

For me appearance is everything where men are concerned. Love a man who takes a pride in his appearance and knows just how to put a look together. The mod look is the epitome of male style in my book.

usualsuspect · 08/08/2012 20:34

I love earrings on men

usualsuspect · 08/08/2012 20:34

and eyebrow piercings

FellatioNelson · 08/08/2012 20:39

Agreed. A good watch and a wedding ring are my rules too. I cannot bear seeing men wearing gold chains and bracelets. I just cannot take a man seriously at all if he is sporting a gold necklace.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/08/2012 20:50

I can't abide jewellery on boys especially the two ears pierced mahoosive CZ stud look (very much favoured in Darkest Essex).

But some men can carry off a tiny gold single hoop in their left ear (think Davis Essex in his heydey)

And worse of all is 'name' necklaces, 'dad' rings.

Not keen on silver personally unless it's CZ set as it highlights it better than gold.

worrysome · 08/08/2012 21:00

When i met dh at 19 he wore a silver bracelet and silver chain, a watch, a hoop earring, several rings inc thumb ring and a hoop in his eyebrow, i loved them all, he has naturally tanned looking skin tone and had youth on his side, he even had blonde highlights in his hair!. Over the years they have gradually been removed at 29 now he wears his wedding ring, a watch and still has a really small hoop in his ear, the eyebrow hoop went this year as he felt he was told old for it and he wants to move up in his career so not appropriate, the chain and braclet are in the bin now he tried them on about a year ago we had a good laugh looked ridiculous on a now almost bald nearly 30 something

VisionaryGoat · 08/08/2012 21:22

I agree. Men wearing jewellery is generally tacky looking and a huge turn off. Some men can pull off a tasteful chain or bracelet, but the majority should just not go there - especially if their jewellery selections look like they came from the chunky gold tat section of the Argos catalogue.

I am pleased to note that my DH would sensibly not wear jewellery under any circumstances - besides his watch and wedding ring anyway.

Glittertwins · 08/08/2012 21:25

I got DH a Tag Heuer watch not long after we got together. He has a rose gold wedding ring, as do I but that's all he wears jewellery wise these days.
I'm another one whose complexion doesn't suit yellow gold. All my stuff is mainly silver with the odd bit of white gold or platinum?

Glittertwins · 08/08/2012 21:26
  • the ? at the end was supposed to be .
MAYBELATERNOWIMBUSY · 18/08/2012 19:46

Agree, jewellery , like lots of things ? less is more ! understated is classy !

MadamFolly · 18/08/2012 20:09

Threads like this make me laugh because they are so very middle class. Laughing at the poor working class who have no taste Hmm

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 18/08/2012 20:25

I had a lovely boyfriend who wore a nose hoop, it looked gorgeous. He did have the whole Singer-from-Bush thing going on though, Ahhhh happy memories. :)

Malificence · 18/08/2012 20:50

It depends on the man and on the jewellery. DH has several naiice watches and a beautiful, very delicate jade and twined silk bracelet that he bought in China, he's got delicate wrists so it suits him whereas my BIL is a big bloke on which delicate stuff would look ridiculous. He also wears a silver chain with his Mayan birth symbol on it and two wedding rings, his original and the celtic rose gold band I bought him for our 25th anniversary, he couldn't bear to not wear his orginal so wears the newer one on his right hand.

NovackNGood · 18/08/2012 20:56

Rings on men look naff.

nocake · 18/08/2012 21:12

I'm a bloke and agree that anything ostentatious looks tacky. Less is more.

I wear a titanium and palladium wedding ring, a thin silver chain with a cross (reminder of my past) and a Christopher Ward watch. If I'm going out I'll wear a vintage Girard Perregaux watch instead.

dementedma · 18/08/2012 22:38

Good, subtle cufflinks on a bloke are really nice.
