I think minimal jewellery looks ok

Then again, I think exactly the same about women's jewellery.

Too much of it is very ageing.

GhostShip · 08/08/2012 11:08

Yep.

Every man should have a nice watch though

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 08/08/2012 11:09

I'm not a big fan of jewellery anyway. It needs to be understated in my opinion. That goes for men and women. I only wear a wedding ring (silver band) and another silver ring I got for my 16th birthday. If I'm going out I'll wear more. DH just wears his wedding ring (again, silver band). Other stuff can look OK on men, but I'm not a fan of gold full stop.

I especially hate those hideous gold clowns!

squeakytoy · 08/08/2012 11:09

one item worn at a time looks fine.. a thin gold chain with a small cross, a ring, a bracelet.. but not chunky cheap looking Argos style crap.

My husband wears a very nice bracelet that is one of those magnetic ones but is gold and copper, and that looks ok, not tacky.

Salmotrutta · 08/08/2012 11:10

I agree.

JumpingThroughHoops · 08/08/2012 11:13

Agree, ghastly. Jewelry on men is just urgh

angryfurball · 08/08/2012 11:15

I don't mind the odd bit of jewellery on a man, one simple ring or bracelet, or a nice watch. There's an elderly chap in my village who walks around in a white vest and several heavy gold chains, bracelets, hands covered in signet rings. Friendly bloke but looks ridiculous and I'm always frightened he's going to get mugged!

Numberlock · 08/08/2012 11:18

Every man should have a nice watch though

Ooh I love a nice watch on a man too, GhostShip, tis very sexy!

catgirl2012 · 08/08/2012 11:48

I think yellow gold is grim on anyone

But that's just my personal preference

A man should (IMO) wear a good watch and a wedding ring only

Again - just my taste

Denise34 · 08/08/2012 12:19

I wouldn't tell that to Mr T to his face!

catgirl2012 · 08/08/2012 12:21

I pity the fool who would

Mintyy · 08/08/2012 12:21

Agreed. Hate all jewellery on men. And pink shirts.

CrispyCod · 08/08/2012 12:21

Yuk to bling on men, it just repels me.

OhLimpPricks · 08/08/2012 12:27

You are entitled to your opinion; you obviously don't like jewelry on men, or rather your Mother didn't. Don't you have a mind of your own? Just because she's your mother doesn't make her right.
Having an opinion is one thing, sneering at others is for those whose lives are so empty they have to pass judgement on others.

LST · 08/08/2012 12:30

YABU. My DP has a silver chain round his neck and one round his wrist. It doesn't look tacky at all

badtasteflump · 08/08/2012 12:31

I wouldn't worry what your mum thinks - my mother thinks anything other than vanilla flavour is Shock so if I followed her advice I would have a pretty boring life Grin

Personally I don't mind minimal jewellery on men - a wedding band, a chunky watch and a simple silver chain can look sexy on the right man Smile. Like anything really, if it's drawing attention to good looking body parts its all good Smile

MardyArsedMidlander · 08/08/2012 12:32

Tchah. I have a very full life and love a damn good sneer.

One of our managers wears diamond studs- he is a male- and elastic sided patent leather boots. (he wears other things as well thank g-d).

Yellow gold = always tacky. Sovereign rings = east end gangster wannabe.
My grandmother taught me that. She was 5" and absolute NAILS when it came to standards.

badtasteflump · 08/08/2012 12:33

PS I don't like gold either - but that's just my personal preference because it doesn't suit me.

Selks · 08/08/2012 12:39

There's a guy at work who wears a silver bangle. I think he's Sikh so maybe it has religious significance, but boy does it look sexy GrinBlush

RuthlessBaggage · 08/08/2012 12:39

a man should (IMO) wear a good watch and a wedding ring only

That's my opinion too. Also, all-metal watches are kinda vulgar: should have a leather strap (unless strident vegetarian/vegan).

I can condone a rosary on a devout Catholic but that's about my limit.

I just think it looks cheap, no matter what it cost Cristiano Ronaldo I'm looking at you. The men in my family don't all wear wedding rings so even that is a modern climbdown in the Baggage household.

musicismylife · 08/08/2012 12:43

My partner looks like MR T Hmm

Didn't realise the T stood for Tacky

SoleSource · 08/08/2012 13:13

Ooh no music. Sorry. I feel bad now.

Ephiny · 08/08/2012 13:29

I don't like it either. DH insisted on getting himself a wedding ring, though I don't think he's worn in since the wedding day.

Actually I don't wear much jewellery myself and don't see the need. I wear my wedding band most days, and always wear a watch (though I don't really consider that 'jewellery').

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 08/08/2012 13:38

Sovereigns are pretty nasty. And chunky chains too.
Seem to be worn by stocky men who wear sports wear but have never done any sport in their lives.
Or ex pats living in Malaga.

Now a bit of silver/white gold on a fit young man I can take.
Loathe earrings on men.

DuffyMoon · 08/08/2012 13:38

I only wear wedding ring because I cant get the bastard thing off and eternity ring because it is sparkly - platinum and white gold respectively. Only like a wedding ring on men - not keen on anthing else jewellery wise. Am quite anti yellow gold but thats probably because it does not suit my colouring
