My dd has been invited to a party where they are planning to go to see 'Ted' - this is a 15 and I think they are too young.

I know teenagers older than 15 who've walked out of Ted as they were a bit shocked. And they are not prudes either. I hear it certainly ain't cute'n'cuddly.

Mrsjay · 07/08/2012 22:50

IS it really really rude cringey rude ? if it is i wont go with my daughter Id Blush

McHappyPants2012 · 07/08/2012 22:51

Not suitable for 11-12 year old, there is a drug smoking teddy bear

LucieMay · 07/08/2012 22:53

My six year old is gutted he can't see it! He cannot understand why there's a film with a teddy bear that is not for kids ha ha!

Iactuallydothinkso · 07/08/2012 22:57

My god! You cannot take kids to watch this. I would not have wanted to take my 17 year old to see it because it's inappropriate to watch it with your kids! It is hilarious but very wrong on so many levels.

You gotta talk to the kids parents and tell them it is MOST unsuitable!

mrsobriain · 07/08/2012 23:48

Thanks all, I think I am going to have to speak to the birthday parent and bite the bullet from my dd for being the only parent to make a fuss. Although sounds like they won't get in anyway if they have to show id, no matter how old some of them look, the others definitely look under 13 let alone 15.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 07/08/2012 23:53

Shock I saw the big dickless bear on a poster, and am sworn to take my 4yo! I must pay attention to stuff.

Krumbum · 07/08/2012 23:57

It's not violent or anything? Shouldn't be an issue, they arnt little kids, yabu. except they probably wont be allowed in by the staff!

manticlimactic · 07/08/2012 23:58

I'd have a word with them too mrs . I'm no prude but what he does with (is it?) cream at the checkout he's working at, flirting with a colleague...all over his face made me boak. My 16yo DD was a bit Shock at it too.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/08/2012 00:05

Er yes, an 11 year old is a little kid Krumbum - one who doesn't need to hear about getting fucked by a parsnip Hmm

It's not just violence that makes movies have certification, it's sexual content and adult themes.

Krumbum · 08/08/2012 00:13

Nothing wrong with kids hearin about sex.

WilsonFrickett · 08/08/2012 00:15

I am often Shock at other parents' attitudes towards film classifications, sometimes I feel like the only one who gives a shit tbh so firstly, this thread has cheered me up.

But for once - for Ted I really blame the tv trailer. It's obviously cut to not cause offence, so it makes the film seem harmless. Me and ds6 had a good chuckle and I did offer to take him to see it before I caught on to the real content. So while YANBU, at all, perhaps the parents here have also misjudged the content of the film?

LaurieFairyCake · 08/08/2012 00:17

Cos of course getting fucked by a parsnip by a guy without a penis is what you want to introduce as sex to 11 year olds Hmm

What a mind numbingly stupid point of view.

RubyFakeNails · 08/08/2012 00:17

Teenagers walked out? WTF? I saw it with my dd1 and ds the day it came out. It's funny, nothing wildly inappropriate, there's a facial and they say cunt once maybe twice but nothing to write home about.

Irrelevant anyway as there is no way they will get in, can't imagine anyone would be stupid enough to think they would, I reckon the birthday parent knows this and is just going along with it so it doesn't seem as if she is spoiling the party.

Krumbum · 08/08/2012 00:22

Children should know what sex is waay before the age of 11 Confused

NoWayNoHow · 08/08/2012 00:25

What a ridiculous idea for a birthday part film! Just take a look at the trailer - it's extremely obvious that it's rated "15" for a very good reason)

It's definitely possible that the parents don't know that it's an adult film, so I would just call them and say that you've seen the trailer, it's themes and language are very adult, and you're not completely comfortable with your DD seeing it. Ask them if any other parents have expressed concern - I would be very surprised if they haven't at least had one phone call.

tartyflette · 08/08/2012 00:27

I heard a review of this on the radio (Front Row) and they were talking about the classification -- apparently it is an 18 in the US! (and that it was indeed very funny, altho a bit of a one-joke film. )
You're probably not BU.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/08/2012 00:27

Yes, of course they should know about sex.

But not about parsnip sex, spunking on faces, and the word 'cunt'.

And even if you were the sort of parent to think all of the above were ok, you'd have to be a right twat to think that all of the above themes should be introduced through the medium of a comedy film to an 11 year old instead of a discussion conducted with times for questions and explanations.

RubyFakeNails · 08/08/2012 00:28

Krum I'm with you on knowing about sex but have you seen... I don't know Superbad? Or Zack and Mimi make a porno? It's like saying to learn about how tough it is to be an Olympic athletes family watch Footballers Wives.

If you seen the film fair enough it's your opinion, but you don't seem to have seen it so you don't really know what it is at all.

RubyFakeNails · 08/08/2012 00:29

Btw though most 12 year olds know the word cunt. I remember the discovery of the phrase 'see you next Tuesday' nearly always happened around year 5.

MaryHansack · 08/08/2012 00:30

oooooh Seth Mcfarlane??
YANBU

NoWayNoHow · 08/08/2012 00:31

Krumbum don't you have any homework to do before school starts again next month?

Krumbum · 08/08/2012 00:32

I saw American pie around that age. I found it funny. Watching horror films disturbed me. I wouldn't mind a child watching something silly.

Krumbum · 08/08/2012 00:35

What is that meant to mean? That I'm a child that wants to see the film Confused?

RubyFakeNails · 08/08/2012 00:38

I think it's a bit more adult than that but I guess that's a fair point as my eldest dcs watched AP around 12.

I probably would have let mine watch it at home but I would have watched it first. I do think you cant make a decision until you've seen it. Also I know you're really into feminist issues Krum so I'm not sure how you would feel about certain scenes, considering the flack the type of thing has had on mn.
