To be proud of my ds for being beautiful?

louloutheshamed · 05/08/2012 19:05

This is troubling me. Two strangers have actually stopped me in the street recently to tell me how beautiful my 18 mo ds is. I think it is the first time I have known what it is like to 'burst with pride' but when I thought about it I think maybe this is wrong? There are things in my life, degree, successes at work etc, that actually have required effort that could be classed as achievements to be proud of, but the fact that average looking dh and I have managed to produce a heart stoppingly beautiful boy is just an accident really isn't it? So why do I feel prouder of this than stuff that requires effort? Disclaimer: I know all children are beautiful etc

cat girl, beautiful ds indeed!! (so's mineGrin)

catgirl2012 · 05/08/2012 21:14

Thanks ssd

Just tried to see if you have any pics of your DS but you don't - I am sure he is just gorgeous

Perhaps we need to start a mothers of beautful DSs support boast thread Grin

JumpingThroughHoops · 05/08/2012 21:16

Try it when you son is 10 and a random mother says, at the school gate,s "send him my way when he's legal" .... then you know what drop dead gorgeous is. Then you worry about predatory shallow females.

Totally jaw droppingly inappropriate comment IMHO

ssd · 05/08/2012 21:18

I cant upload photo's (old gimmer), but trust me my 2 ds's are gorgeous, I dont know why girls arent flocking around them both.....

catgirl2012 · 05/08/2012 21:18

eeeeeewww jumping :(

catgirl2012 · 05/08/2012 21:18

Perhaps they are too good looking and the girls are intimidated ssd

ssd · 05/08/2012 21:19

true!

JollyHockeyStick · 05/08/2012 21:23

DH and I are both unusual looking - a small amount of people find us very attractive, most others would give us 4/10.

DS is beautiful. Lots of people comment on how gorgeous he is. He has long black eyelashes and at the moment his hair is blonde due to the sun.

I am very proud of how gorgeous he is. I'm also proud of how smiley he is, how clever he is, how charming he is, how well behaved he is....

None of which I take any credit for. I don't think it is a case of me being proud of MY achievements in raising him, I am proud because he is a small person I know and love and everything he does or learns is amazing to me.

catgirl2012 · 05/08/2012 21:24

Ahhhh Jolly, that's lovely :)

Greythorne · 05/08/2012 21:26

I have a friend whose child is, hand on heart, very plain. The child looks slightly lobsided, irregular features, slightly big ears, straight, lifeless hair.

Anyway, my friend often stares at this little girl and sighs, wistfully and says, 'I don't know how DH and I manages to produce such a gorgeous creature. She's just so beautiful. I am so blessed.'

So, it made me realize that all normal parents think their little ones are wonderful looking, no matter what - objectively - they really look
Like. And that's how it should be.

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 05/08/2012 21:27

YANBU at all! There's nothing wrong with being proud of anything your children do or are I don't think (well unless they're Justin Bieber fans or something Grin )

We get stopped all the time by people saying our DD (20mo) is gorgeous and I most definitely am proud of that. She is a little stunner cough pics on profile cough

jubilee10 · 05/08/2012 21:27

Ds3 was is beautiful. I've lost count of the number of strangers that have stopped me to tell me so. Their usual comment, "isn't she gorgeous, she could be a model", or similar. I've had to cut his hair! He looks a lot like I did as a child so we have to make the most of it, I'm no painting now!

catgirl2012 · 05/08/2012 21:27

Ohhhhh that's lovely too Greythorne

This thread is making me all teary

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 05/08/2012 21:29

Your DS is gorgeous catgirl Smile

catgirl2012 · 05/08/2012 21:31

I look at him and I just cannot believe I got something so right

I am sort of humbled by him if that makes sense

Of course to other people, he may look like Shrek [GRIN] . But to me he is the most perfect thing in the whole of creation.

catgirl2012 · 05/08/2012 21:31

Thank you Scarlet

mummyonvalium · 05/08/2012 21:33

YANBU - she probably is gorgeous. Beauty in a child however is more than looks. I find there is something about truly beautiful children - they are engaging, smiley bundles of happiness and energy and when they smile their face lights up like a Christmas tree (you get my drift). I think they may be people who will grow up to love life.

I got the same attention with both my boys - DS1 because he has the most amazing blue eyes and smile (and is always charming to people) and DS2 because he looks like one of Botticelli's babies (however, he also ridiculously happy and fun).

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 05/08/2012 21:35

My babies are gorgeous, lots of people comment on this and say the model line.

I love it. I don't think they should be models though!

IHeartKingThistle · 05/08/2012 21:35

People always commented on how confident, happy and alert DD was. It wasn't until I had DS and people stopped to tell me how beautiful he was that I realised that DD was not a conventionally cute baby. Bless her heart Grin

Onlyhappywhenitrains · 05/08/2012 21:38

Apparently people used to say the model thing to my mum about me (although she does have a selective memory and a talent for embellishing).
Alas I have grown up to be about a 3 out of 10, less after a horrific sleepless night with DS. Disappointing!

bruffin · 05/08/2012 21:38

Strangers used to comment on dcs, and a photographer said he could get Ds modelling work, but I really don't think he had the personality for it, so didn't persue it.
Make the most of it because they grow too fast.

catgirl2012 · 05/08/2012 21:39

Oooh Scarlet - just seen your DD

Stunning! What a smile!

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 05/08/2012 21:41

Aw thanks catgirl. She's a crazy little bundle of madness. She gets free things from shops all the time which is a plus Grin

catgirl2012 · 05/08/2012 21:46

I bet she does :) She looks like loads of fun.....sort of cheeky and alert
