mil (lovely lovely person) says peg at hem.
I peg at shoulders.

my reasons

  • I don't have a line, only a wing airer so long arms would dreg on the floor
  • the fabric gets streched too much with the weight of the arms pulling down

I am with the collar handers. That is the correct and proper way to hang a shirt. The rest of you are a big bunch of pretenders.

StuntGirl · 04/08/2012 22:29

There are RULES for this kinda shit??

I hang it whichever way they come to be honest :/

Socknickingpixie · 04/08/2012 22:31

hem. but also peg sleves so they dont drag

AbsolutelyNotHoneyDragon · 04/08/2012 22:35

Pixie Or raise your line more than 10" from the floor Confused

bullrush · 04/08/2012 22:35

hem x

ClaireMarathonFeeder · 04/08/2012 22:39

Another vote for collar.

Never considered any other option (except hanger)

thenightsky · 04/08/2012 22:42

depends on the fabric. tops of cotton (shirts that require ironing etc) hung from hem, jersey ones - peg underarms.

Sirzy · 04/08/2012 22:45

Hem, if arms will drag on the floor then peg them up to

AbsolutelyNotHoneyDragon · 04/08/2012 22:48

What is this arms on floor gubbins? Are you all Borrowers?

Wolfiefan · 04/08/2012 22:49

Hem or hanger. (As shirts are worn tucked in there is no horrid mark but I use special pegs too!)

Flisspaps · 04/08/2012 22:53

Indoors on a hanger and then on an over door hook. Outside by the hem, side seams.

Tops are pegged under the armpits to reduce twisting.

Most trousers are pegged from the top. The kids elasticated waist things hang by the ankles otherwise the elastic stays damp.

Socks hang in pairs.

Everything must be turned the right way round (bar socks, they can dry inside out)

PodiumOfWinners · 04/08/2012 23:02

Absolutely on hangers - and I don't iron Shock

Wash with a slow spin so they come out wet but less creased, then hang on hangers, stretch collars, cuffs, seams and button front and hang on line to dry = No ironing (even if there is a little bit of creasing by the time you have worn it 5 minutes they have all fallen out) Even DP has come over to the dark non-ironing side Grin

sashh · 05/08/2012 01:21

Drying outside - peg the hem. You peg clothers fromthe bottom half of your body at the top, and those from the top of your body you peg from the bottom.

But drying indoors I would put directly on a hanger.

EcoLady · 05/08/2012 01:24

Tops by their bottoms and bottoms by their tops... and my Grandmother was a Domestic Science teacher, so I know what I'm talking about! Grin

UserNameNotAvailable · 05/08/2012 01:29

Hem

Df once pegged out a jumper with a peg at the wrist, peg at the elbow and a peg on the shoulder. I had to change it or it would have bugged me but it did look funny Grin

nappyaddict · 05/08/2012 01:32

Podium Do you use fabric conditioner?

Do the hangers blow off if very windy?

TapirBackRider · 05/08/2012 01:48

Hem, and trousers by the ankles.

If shirts aren't unbuttoned (by the wearer) before washing, then they don't get ironed tough Grin

SoupDragon · 05/08/2012 01:52

In the Dragon house, ordinary shirts get pegged at the hem on the seam, delicate tops get pegged at the armpits.

Kayano · 05/08/2012 01:56

Hem!!! Yabu!!!

OlaRapaceFru · 05/08/2012 07:10

No, nappyaddict. You do up one of the top buttons on a shirt/blouse to stop it blowing off the hanger and you hang the hanger on the clothesline and then secure it with a clothes peg.

Or you can buy special clips to keep hangers on the clothesline (I've tried to Google, but haven't found anything so far). I remember my Mum had some, they were plastic in a sort-of flat, upsidedown U shape - they hooked over the line and then there was a hole on both sides towards the bottom of the U that the hanger hooked through.

RuthlessBaggage · 05/08/2012 07:32

I peg out inside-out, though, to prevent fading.

OlaRapaceFru · 05/08/2012 07:35

Ah, found some. These are nothing like Mum's, but the same concept www.lakeland.co.uk/8829/12-Hook-ups

PermanentlyOnEdge · 05/08/2012 08:29

I fold the entire collar over the line and peg. Thank goodness for Stacey and others, was feeling a bit of a freak. It just uses up much less line space.

SoleSource · 05/08/2012 08:32

Hem says our maid.

PodiumOfWinners · 05/08/2012 09:28

Ola got the reply in for me nappyaddict! Yes you do up the top button to stop it falling off. Never had a problem with hangers blowing off, but garden is quite sheltered. Pegging the hangers would probably work though.

I do use ecover fabric conditioner (can't stand the scented ones) but we have exceptionally hard water.
