mil (lovely lovely person) says peg at hem.
I peg at shoulders.

my reasons

  • I don't have a line, only a wing airer so long arms would dreg on the floor
  • the fabric gets streched too much with the weight of the arms pulling down

hang from the hem at the seams that attach the back of the shirt to the sides. If I hang them inside then I put them on hangers and hang them on the clothes horse (airer)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/08/2012 19:16

Hem. Closed because DH takes them off over his head without undoing the buttons and no one else wears shirts. For tops made of jersey or anything stretchy, shoulder or underarm seams. I do trousers by the hem too, especially jeans, so they can flap about more at the waist end which takes longer to dry than the hem end. Jeans definitely dry faster that way.

RuthlessBaggage · 04/08/2012 19:18

Hem with matching pegs or on a hanger.

TroubleIsBrewing · 04/08/2012 19:20

Pegs go at bottom for tops and top for bottoms.

So hem it is!

starfishmummy · 04/08/2012 19:27

Hem so any marks from dirty pegs or washing line are hidden when worn.

StellaAndFries · 04/08/2012 19:28

Hem.

Hem

ceegeebee · 04/08/2012 19:38

Hem. And trousers from ankles

Geeklette · 04/08/2012 19:41

Hem for me too, and for the record I also hang trousers by the ankles. I try to hang things so the heaviest part is loose and hanging, to drag the creases out. Doesn't always work, but one week in two I can get away without ironing my work trousers. Shirts get ironed regardless, but I don't need to waste time ironing out peg marks from the shoulders!

MousyMouse · 04/08/2012 19:43

so far no peg marks.
I don't iron at all don't know where the iron is after moving

valiumredhead · 04/08/2012 19:45

I use a hanger and line dry so no need for ironing. If I pegged I would do it from the bottom so no marks on the shoulders.

diddl · 04/08/2012 19:50

Hem.

But on an airer I don´t peg but put it over under the arms.

HSMM · 04/08/2012 19:54

Armpits on the washing line.

Hangers on my pole (that my lovely DH put up for me) when hung indoors.

lisaro · 04/08/2012 19:57

Hem - coming from a daughter and wife of members of HM Forces - easier to iron every time.

SDTGisAnOlympicWolefGenius · 04/08/2012 19:57

Hem, at the side seams. That's how my dmum does it, and she is Always Right. And you don't want to argue with her, otherwise she will deploy the Look - that still makes me shake in my shoes, at the grand old age of 47!!

MrsHoarder · 04/08/2012 20:02

Hanger on the edge of the airer. Means they stay in shape and don't take up airer space

CaliforniaLeaving · 04/08/2012 21:33

Armpits, doesn't leave as big marks to iron out.

phantomnamechanger · 04/08/2012 21:41

OMG I never knew I was doing it wrong all these years - stacey I'm with you, fold over the collar, so the bit thats never seen is against the line and peg it

trousers it depends on material and where pleats are , if any -so
kids leggins etc, hang from waist, DH work trousers or school uniforms, hang with creases in (sideways) & upside down)

Ihatepeas · 04/08/2012 21:46

Hem

itsthegruffaloagain · 04/08/2012 21:47

Stacey I'm so glad someone else does this too - reading through these responses, I was starting to feel like a weirdo!! Never had a problem with peg marks either - it seems like the logical place to peg them to me!

strawberrypenguin · 04/08/2012 22:14

I was taugh to hang 'tops by the bottoms and bottoms by the top' so by that rule shirts by the hem.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 04/08/2012 22:17

Do as MIL suggests, then go to MILs with muddy sleeves repeatedly.
Advise her of your unfortunate quandary.
Request her valued advice. Wink
