Or, AIBU to have accidently washed the car tax paperwork (tax due today)?

Just to make me feel better obviously :) he's cross.

I don't check the pockets of DH or adult son but have stressed it is their responsibility to do this before putting stuff in the laundry. But, being men, they don't always listen or comply! I have washed adult son's passport so he had to fork out for a new one (not my fault, he was warned). Oh, and any money that falls out in the wash is mine!

Flisspaps · 31/07/2012 18:56

No. If he leaves something in that ruins a wash, he can rewash it.

You have reminded me that the car tax needs renewing today though.

noddyholder · 31/07/2012 18:59

We all do our own supposedly although I still check as I dread all the little bits

axure · 31/07/2012 19:01

Yes they should do it themselves but don't. DS leaves tissues, train tickets and sweet wrappers in his, DH sometimes leaves banknotes which go straight into my purse!

bagelmonkey · 31/07/2012 19:04

I stopped checking DH's pockets thoroughly for a couple of weeks and washed his ATM card 3 times. I make a great profit on doing the laundry with the cash DH leaves in his pockets and I have the added bonus of being able to ensure my own clothes get clean & don't get shrunk in the wash.

mrsrvc · 31/07/2012 19:08

I do after I did a particularly bad effort washing his belt, wallet and phone (and oddly also a mouse- not in his pocket, but god knows where it did come from...)

whojamaflip · 31/07/2012 19:10

Yes and I claim any money found as "washer womans wages" Grin can be very profitable

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 31/07/2012 19:12

I check his trousers, as his pockets usually contain an assortment of coinage, tissues, receipts, screws, tools and feck knows what else. I don't check his polo shirt pockets, hence washing memory sticks and bluetooth headsets before now. Surprisingly they all still work :)

poachedeggs · 31/07/2012 19:18

He's much happier. No idea whether he found the number by piecing the bits together or whether he just worked out how to do it online.

I should clarify that he was cross that he couldn't tax the car rather than because I'd washed his stuff. He knows it's fair game if he leaves it there. He also does some laundry wrong but as with lots of jobs it naturally falls to one of us to do more. He cuts the grass ten times for every once I do it if I nag him. :)

I wash whatever DH puts in the washbasket. If it is not in the washbasket and I am tidying the clothes get put on the chair next to his bed.

If he puts something in the wash basket it is his responsibility to empty the pockets. He's normally very good at this.

One day though I had a funny feeling and checked the pockets of his work shorts before putting them in the machine. They contained a fiver and a TEA BAG!

bogeyface · 31/07/2012 19:26

You can either use the number on the reminder letter or the number that is on your V5 logbook. I know this because I always lose the letter and have to use the V5 number online :o

Having spent many of the years of my life without a washing machine(living in places without electricity or before I could afford to buy one)

I often worship(sacrifice the odd small child) at the altar of domestic appliances, I do not take them for granted, and I really value the time I gain from having machines,

We have eight people in this household, the nearest laundrette is a long way away.

If the machine that deals with dirty clothes stops working, the household grinds to a halt, within hours avalanches of waiting loads, take out small children and animals, trap adults in the garden, as they block doorways,

The washing machine should it fail to work must be replaced on the day it dies, I refuse to live in the house if a working machine is not installed at all times,

because a working machine is so intrinsic to a harmonious household any attack(items in pocket) on the washing machine are taken very seriously, you pay a fine per item, the fee is age related, one pound an item as an adult, 20p per item for children, and you have to take a job per item off the to do list,

the money goes in the machine fund,

I very rarely get any money in the fund these days, and the children when loading the machine are super vigilant, as they love to fine adults,

I had to bring in draconian measures as we had two shredding of seals, when lazy people left screws in pockets,

It works, no one wants to pay out or clean out chickens, trim hooves, so they are vigilant, and I don't have to be the pocket police.

MrsBaggins · 31/07/2012 19:48

No - he washes his own clothes faintHmm

Shutupanddrive · 31/07/2012 20:38

Yes I always check (in the hope of finding money)

TheThingUpstairs · 31/07/2012 20:45

Yes, in hope of finding money!

Mrsjay · 31/07/2012 20:45

In the years before debit cards (dark ages) I washed the cheque book 3 days before we were going on holiday i dried it with the hair dryer Blush

motherinferior · 31/07/2012 20:47

I don't do the washing. MrInferior doesn't check my pockets.

eurochick · 31/07/2012 20:47

Nope, he is quite capable of taking responsibility for checking them before sticking the clothes in the washing basket (and fyi he is as likely to put on a wash as I am).

tinkertitonk · 31/07/2012 22:22

No.

Other peoples' pockets are disgusting.

sabbby82 · 31/07/2012 22:26

I do as there's always money to be found!

WorraLiberty · 31/07/2012 22:28

Whoever puts the load in, double checks the pockets...it's simple really.

StuntGirl · 31/07/2012 22:31

Nope. I assume other adults are capable of removing things from their pockets before putting them in the laundry basket.

WorraLiberty · 31/07/2012 22:35

Does no-one assume that people can and do sometimes make mistakes/miss a pocket/forget because they're late for work/in a hurry?

Whenever these threads are started (and oddly enough there have been many) there are so many posters that get arsey about the idea of doing a quick 2 second check Confused

StuntGirl · 31/07/2012 22:37

I'm not arsey about it I just don't check.
He doesn't check my pockets when he does the laundry either, we both just empty our pockets before putting them in the laundry basket.

starfishmummy · 31/07/2012 22:37

If its in the washing basket I don't check. But if it is something that he has left lying around and would continue wearing even though it should have been washed months ago, then I check....usually wearing my rubber gloves!!
