Or, AIBU to have accidently washed the car tax paperwork (tax due today)?

Just to make me feel better obviously :) he's cross.

Usually. I think he checks my pockets too. Things get through our tight checks though. We've washed the odd disposable nappy. Not sure whose pocket that was in.

50shadesofstress · 31/07/2012 17:09

You can definitely use the log book number when you do it online. I had to do this as the paperwork had the wrong registration number on it so that ref number didn't work.

I would probably check pockets if the stuff wasn't in the wash basket but then again I am likely to forget to do things like that!

CailinDana · 31/07/2012 17:09

No but then I don't wash my DH's clothes and DS is too young (yet) to do his own washing.

Originalplurker · 31/07/2012 17:10

No

But I thought it read do you check your husbands pockets at first glance, well I check his receipts if he leaves them about the place Grin

50shadesofstress · 31/07/2012 17:10

Yes i have also washed nappies (clean ones) by mistake, not sure how they get in there but all weird bits come out of them

BertieBotts · 31/07/2012 17:11

I check everything as I'm putting it in, mainly because I'm forgetful. It's usually my pockets which have things in them.

Why would you not? It only takes a second. I do up zips as well to stop the teeth catching on things and damaging them (no idea if this actually happens, but my mum always told me to!)

modifiedmum · 31/07/2012 17:12

Er yes of course! Obviously archie is 3 and his always putting things in his pockets but my other half is a grown man, he is more than capable of emptying his own pockets before putting them in the wash! SO no yanbu men always look for someone else to blame! tssk!

ClaireRacing · 31/07/2012 17:14

The easiest way to renew tax is to use the 16 digit code on the renewal reminder. If you wash lose the letter, you can use the log book number and registration number.

The online system checks the insurance and MOT database.

The whole process takes 5 minutes.

I am the worlds worst for emptying pockets i am loads better than i used to be I have washed all sorts so DH would be all Huffy about having to fish it out the filter or drum he is very good at doing it i dont check i have washed a few radiator keys though,

DappyHays · 31/07/2012 17:17

I always check due to me having a finders keepers policy for any banknotes left in pockets.

Xmasbaby11 · 31/07/2012 17:18

I don't, but then DH does most of the laundry. He would definitely check! That's why he does it, not me!

TrinaLuciusMalfoy · 31/07/2012 17:18

Yes I do, but mostly out of the habit of checking my own! HOWEVER, if he doesn't and you've washed something important the simple answer is 'Oh sorry sweetie, it'll probably be safer if you just do all your laundry in future'
Wink

scentednappyhag · 31/07/2012 17:19

Nope, it's bad enough that I never know what's to be washed and what isn't as it's strewn forlornly across the entire place- socks clinging to the sofa, pants hanging from door handles, tshirts making a bid for freedom on the window sills...

lynniep · 31/07/2012 17:19

I do, because everytime I wash his bloddy tissues it creates and almighty mess

NagooingForGold · 31/07/2012 17:20

If you decide to wash stuff not in a basket then you need to check it.

So I don't wash stuff not in the basket.

WendevilleAndManlock · 31/07/2012 17:20

I don't, because DH does his own laundry.

I have started to check the DCs though, after the incident of the 5p piece getting stuck in the filter, recently followed by the 3 cocktails sticks and a lolly stick getting stuck in the filter.

tiggyfours · 31/07/2012 17:22

I do now, after grabbing a fleece jacket off the stairs and washing the new phone in the pocket :( . Also check because of stray nails that threaten my lovely new washing machine.

Birnamwood · 31/07/2012 17:22

I do because one day 'earnt' £27 doing the washing. His loss, my gain :)

AKMD · 31/07/2012 17:23

Yes I check all pockets. DH leaves lots of change in his trousers but I'm the usual culprit for tissues,

snuffaluffagus · 31/07/2012 17:25

He usually washes his own clothes.. but if I'm sticking a wash on though, yes I check the pockets.

moajab · 31/07/2012 17:25

I try to remember to check, as there's usually all sorts in there. But I do often forget and have washed money, bank cards, a computer remote control, DH's inhaler and DS's collection of pokemon cards! Nappies are the worst!

Windsock · 31/07/2012 17:26

NO HE IS AN ADULT. He does his own. And tbh does most of the laundry

MrsHelsBels74 · 31/07/2012 17:26

I empty his pockets, had one too many paper in washing machine incidents not to.

3duracellbunnies · 31/07/2012 17:26

I refuse to wash any of dh's trousers until he has checked through and emptied his pockets. As this is not something that comes naturally to him the conversation is usually

Me: have you emptied the pockets of these?
dh: dunno, maybe
me: well can you check cos I am going to put a load on and these have been sitting here for a week waiting for me to catch you to check
Dh: oh look, a fiver, that's where my flash pen has got to, oh and 10 old tissues. Why can't you check them anyway?
me: well if you fancy checking my pockets every time my clothes need washing and fishing out dirty tissues maybe we could do a deal?

Oh and if you do it online or by phone then you get an extra 5 days before you need to display the new one.
