To be mildly resentful that the children won't let me just sit on the sofa all day and watch the Olympics

I realise I am to be honest but is anyone else feeling like this? I have done something nice with them each day but really wish I was at home on the sofa watching every second!

I know what you mean!

They quite enjoyed a bit of jump-splash (diving) and boing-boing (gymnastics) today though.

Sirzy · 30/07/2012 19:46

I have had it on in the background whenever we have been home but not got to watch a great deal although DS was fascinated by the diving so I got to watch that!

Still we are a Cbeebies free zone so thats a good thing!

SauvignonBlanche · 30/07/2012 19:46

YANBU at all, my DCs keep bothering me too.
At least we're off to the Olympics tomorrow so that should shut them up for a bit!

missmapp · 30/07/2012 19:46

YANBU, we went to the zoo today, and I hoped this would allow me to watch the diving and gymnastics- but they kept wanting to play games!!!! DS1 (7) was okay, but ds2 just wasnt interested at all, mind you he did keep saying 'at least he didnt fall on his face' whenever any gymnast made a mistake after the poor japanesse gymnast fell off his vault!!

JumpingThroughHoops · 30/07/2012 19:47

Hey - sports house here - and they made me watch some non-olympic football dirge earlier .... I got my own back and watch Anna and the King this afternoon Grin

Swimming now .... budgie smugglers ....

cocoachannel · 30/07/2012 19:48

YANBU. I feel exactly the same about my employer.

Olympia2012 · 30/07/2012 19:49

Gosh.... I have put myself first for once! We are watching it, like It or lump it, they have to play with their stockpiled toys.

No complaints so far!

EasilyBored · 30/07/2012 19:50

YANBU. Missed the final bit of the men's team gymnastics because the baby needed to be put to bed.

Did record it and watch it late. But still.

Silverlace · 30/07/2012 19:50

YANBU. Just trying to watch the swimming, DS age 6 leaping around the room generally being annoying. I thought he would be tired tonight as I have been out with him all day and taken him on an 8 mile bike ride. What else can I do to wear him out so I can watch in peace?

clemetteattlee · 30/07/2012 19:51

DD (7) is interested but is asking non-stop questions so I can't hear any commentary or analysis (she is still up now asking about endless questions about swimming). DS (4) has gone from a child perfectly happy to entertain himself for hours to one who stands in front of the TV complaining "all you do is watch 'lympics!"

All I wanted to do was watch the bloody eventing. Would the kids watch the pretty horsies? Would they heck! Had to watch Madagascar for the fiftieth time.

I know what you mean but it is mixed blessing when they watch with you and then reenact what they have seen suppressed memory of dd1 doing gymnastics off the sofa and nearly onto dd2

clemetteattlee · 30/07/2012 19:53

We had judo re-enactment yesterday which was cute until DS started illegal jabs...

missmapp · 30/07/2012 19:54

Yes gigondas i thought we were heading to A&E when ds2 attempted a back flip off the climbing frame- cue discussion on training needed for backflips!!

joanofarchitrave · 30/07/2012 19:54

Yes, unfortunately this 'inspire a generation' business means that ds keeps wanting to DO stuff rather that sit on the sofa. FGS Lord Coe, do you not care about the viewing figures at all?

picnicbasketcase · 30/07/2012 19:54

I made my DC watch the diving with me earlier. They're now quite hooked Smile

Merlotmonster · 30/07/2012 19:55

no way would i have missed the eventing!!! (yes, all six hours of it)

MadCap · 30/07/2012 19:56

I have it on the v+ box to in a minute.

clemetteattlee · 30/07/2012 19:57

And I have to go back to work next week when the track and field is on Sad

I'm with you OP. We have had to focus on Gymnastics (not a bad thing) as DD will put up with it, although she is a bit Hmm today that it is the men's gymnastics not the womens!

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 30/07/2012 19:59

I haven't seen ANY today. Busy during day then when we got home DH found bloody Spy Kids 17 or something and he and DS have watched that. Am hoping to get the highlights in peace later!!

camdancer · 30/07/2012 20:04

"Mum, I hate the Olympics. Why can't I watch Scooby Doo?" I'm not sure there is much inspiring a generation in this house - more putting them off sport for life! Oops.

5dcsinneedofacleaner · 30/07/2012 20:05

Yanbu i have managed to distract mine with the tv while watching the olympics with the laptop on the arm of the couch - sadly the keep wanting feeding/attention damn them.

JoyousJoyce · 30/07/2012 20:32

Yanbu, managed to get dd to sit and watch the diving with me. She thought the big splashes were the exciting part. Tried to get the DS's interested but all I get is 'this is boring' or 'what have you done to the TV?'. Was hoping they may be a little inspired, but alas, they are not.
