To be mildly resentful that the children won't let me just sit on the sofa all day and watch the Olympics

I realise I am to be honest but is anyone else feeling like this? I have done something nice with them each day but really wish I was at home on the sofa watching every second!

3yo DD wants to be a diver now - so some inspiration has occured!

Might have to teach her to swim first though...

Zippylovesgeorge · 30/07/2012 20:38

Ha! You need teenagers - they sit & watch with you :) but they do nick your snacks!!

olibeansmummy · 30/07/2012 20:46

Ds (3) has been re enacting the diving and gymnastics... Unfortunately it only involves jumping up and down lol

bisjolympics · 30/07/2012 20:52

This is when being a WOHM is a distinct advantage. You drop your dcs at holiday club and go to work as usual. You then connect your Iphone to the company wifi (which is permitted) and then tune into the BBC making sure the volume is set to zero. You then place your iPhone slightly in front of your keyboard (assuming you have a boring desk job).

You can watch the Olympics and just push the keyboard over the iPhone when your boss wanders by. When he is not around you can check BBC live text to find out what is going on if the live stream isn't clear (it mostly is). This is one of the few occasions I'm glad I'm at workGrin

I wonder if it will work on the wards next week... People surely won't get ill when the Olympics are on... Wink

To give you hope for 2016 or 2020, DD (17) is at work and the cat and I are watching the swimming

Now DH wants to talk just as the highlights programme is about to start. He has made noises about how intolerant I am if he watches football tournaments. Pah!

DD1 will watch it but asks so many questions that I can't hear a bloody thing. Doesn't help that there were injuries in the gymnastics and the jumping and she's ever so concerned that everyone is ok and gets to hospital in time.

Loshad · 30/07/2012 22:34

YADNBU had a day long cross country viewing fest on my laptop, only intervened when heard noises of DS4 (11) being sat on by DS3 (14) [embarassed]
my rationale being I had hoped to be there in person today, but failed to get tickets, so they shouldn't have expected me to be there, iyswim.

RunYouBastardRun · 30/07/2012 22:36

I told dd that Cbeebies doesn't work while the Olympics are on.

iseenodust · 30/07/2012 22:36

YANBU I sit here with large smug Grin having bought DH a tent and dispatched him to a field with DS for 48 hours.

I grew up with Neighbours not being on during Wimbledon and I didn't die so I reckon her and ds will get through ok.

MyndAndMist · 30/07/2012 22:42

22mo DS2 thought the diving was hysterical. He mimicked the counting, then said "Oooohhhh weeeee OH NOOOOOO" and pissed himself laughing.

Somewhat distracting.

RunYouBastardRun · 30/07/2012 22:44

Dd wanted to know why they were allowed to jump into the pool when she's not. She did like the 'donkies dancing' though.

CelticOlympian · 30/07/2012 22:46

RunYouBastard I told DS the same thing. He's accepted it so far, he hears it every weekend during the rugby season!

MuddlingMackem · 30/07/2012 22:52

YANBU at all! Grin

I'm managing to record it all and then just watch the bits of gymnastics, mainly because DS is interested and DD will tolerate it, although she wants to see the women's not the men's. The only other thing I'll be inflicting on them are the track events if they're interested. Otherwise I suspect I'll be fast-forwarding and picking out those bits once they're in bed.

Maybe by 2016 they'll actually want to watch some of it live. Hmm

Meglet · 30/07/2012 22:54

yanbu.

I've banned cbeebies, like I ban it during Wimbledon.

In their defence, the DC's (5 and almost 4) have been really good and let me get away with it on all day. Although we don't really sit on the sofa just watch it every so often.
