i watched and really really enjoyed the opening ceremony - but i saw nods to
the army
the air force
the navy
the nhs.....

and the police, while in the news for dwindling numbers, and providing security for the games in the face of the G4S cock up - can once again go and swivel then....?

last week i faced knife man, who only gave his machete up when threatened with taser - (he had assaulted 2 people already - he wasnt afraid to use it) are we not worthy of a mention then, i wonder, with all the other services?

just musing really....but if all the other services and nhs are getting nods then surely they could acknowledge what we do?

You don't sound like a knob, but they can't include everyone.

I know the police have a history too, but institutions like the NHS are symbolic of the changes made after WWII and something more than the sum of their parts.

The military nods did leave me wondering whether China had included their military in their opening ceremony, and if they didn't whether they would have been viewed differently to how we romanticise (to a certain degree) ours.

No medal for us. Not classed as front line
They did give us a commemorative metal thingy though

we only got the medal if we have 5 years service in. even counting my service as a special i was a year short.

no medal here either.

Ha even with 5 years we were exempt
Think enough people complained that we were front line so we got a pacifier

ah well! i shouldnt complain as i managed to wangle some time off while many of my colleagues are away in London....i am blessed!
