to wonder where our mention was?

i watched and really really enjoyed the opening ceremony - but i saw nods to
the army
the air force
the navy
the nhs.....

and the police, while in the news for dwindling numbers, and providing security for the games in the face of the G4S cock up - can once again go and swivel then....?

last week i faced knife man, who only gave his machete up when threatened with taser - (he had assaulted 2 people already - he wasnt afraid to use it) are we not worthy of a mention then, i wonder, with all the other services?

just musing really....but if all the other services and nhs are getting nods then surely they could acknowledge what we do?

Thanks to all officers stuck on night shifts now dealing with drunks outside pubs, who would much rather be elsewhere Grin

Hattie23 · 28/07/2012 01:47

I'll make you a medal Vicar.
I have some sticky back plastic here. Somewhere.

Gimme a mo ..........

Snowfire · 28/07/2012 01:55

I thought it odd that the police weren' t recognised. I work for the NHS in the south west & although I won't receive any medals, perhaps bigging up the NHS justifies our forthcoming pay cut & reduction in annual leave Wink

MariosTash · 28/07/2012 02:04

I thought that the nod to the NHS was more about it being a British idea, I'm assuming most countries have police/fire service etc but not sn NHS...might be completely wrong about that though!

I appreciate you Torch

PedanticPanda · 28/07/2012 02:04

I appreciate all that the police and the fire brigade do Thanks

I do wonder though, why do the majority on mumsnet not like macca? Is it his music or what? Confused

Southwest · 28/07/2012 02:09

Maybe Dannys had some bad experiences with the police (they have had a bit of a bad press recently)

Dprince · 28/07/2012 09:06

Imvho, its a disgrace they left the police and fire brigade out. A complete disgrace.
OP you have my thanks and respect.

Roar at this,

"I felt the billion person synchronised cringe when macca came on".

Me too! Grin Torch Grin

I appreciate you too Flowers Torch

"I thought that the nod to the NHS was more about it being a British idea,"

That's how I interpreted it too.

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/07/2012 11:54

DH just said its because the the nhs is uniquely british.

(the british police service used to be until shiny dave got it but thats another thread.....Grin)

i still liked it - DH says we are to leave macca alone cos he lived through it all ( he is obviously older than i though since they started before the industrial revolution!!Grin

dh says it was different revolutions......and macca was part of the revolution of the 60's....or something.

Aw Thanks Vicar.

The NHS thing though was partly because it was founded in 1948 (ditto the Empire Windrush) so ties in with the Olympic theme. Also everywhere has a police force and a fire service, but the NHS is more specific to the UK.

TribbleTuckandDismount · 28/07/2012 12:00

I love you Vicar, brave thing!! I can make you a tin foil star on behalf of MN.

They should have had Dr Who rather than Macca. The Doctor would have far more fabulous.
