to want a TV licence rebate owing to excessive Olympic coverage

in which I am completely uninterested? Even Gardener's World is looking at Olympic gardens. Am I the only person in the UK who is (a) uninterested and (b) is suspicious that someone is tying to make us all interested by hyping it all so much?

BlackOutTheSun · 27/07/2012 18:59

I'm fed up of the Olympics already!

ilovesooty · 27/07/2012 19:00

In that case I want one for endless "talent" programmes, Big Brother, and soaps I'm not interested in. Hmm

And those are on all the time, not just once every few years.

Presumably you have a choice of channels and even an "off" button.

vonnyh · 27/07/2012 19:01

YABU. And very unimaginative.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 27/07/2012 19:01

Im with you. Really couldnt give a toss and Im so annoyed at the throat ramming going on Im actively avoiding it.

cozietoesie · 27/07/2012 19:02

Surely they must be playing some really good cheap old movies on multitudinous other channels to balance the expense?

Pandemoniaa · 27/07/2012 19:03

I'm very cynical about the Olympics but it does only come round every 4 years. Unlike the fucking awful Britain Has No Talent Whatsoever/X Factor/Strictly come Get Me Out of Here shit which suffuses the television all year round. So yes, YABU. Life doesn't actually have to revolve around the television.

LentillyFart · 27/07/2012 19:03

YABU and a little bit silly! Nobody likes everything and I'm sure you could find something un-Olympic - try the Discovery channels or something. I'm not a huge sports fan but I'll be watching - you have to give these things a chance.

galletti · 27/07/2012 19:04

YABU - There are other channels to watch like we all do sometimes when something doesn't turn our switches. Can't you be a little bit proud of our Country even just for tonight?

ShellyBoobs · 27/07/2012 19:04

ilovesooty - are you me? Grin

I was thinking exactly the same.

I'm not overly enthuisiatic about the Olympics but I won't begrudge the airtime given half so much as all the inane reality shite that infests TV schedules for 75% of the year.

Soap Star Strictly Big Brother On Ice Has Got Talent Factor?

Bollocks.

ilovesooty · 27/07/2012 19:06

A couple of hours of Big Brother shite on Channel 5 tonight...Emmerdale and Coronation Street on ITV. I rest my case.

poppy283 · 27/07/2012 19:06

Tv license is just for the BBC though isn't it? In that case Yanbu, totally annoying already!

ilovesooty · 27/07/2012 19:07

ilovesooty - are you me?

There are times when I've had that passing thought Shelly Grin

vonnyh · 27/07/2012 19:09

You need a tv license if you have a TV that can receive a tv signal, regardless of what channels you watch.

ilovesooty · 27/07/2012 19:09

Tv license is just for the BBC though isn't it?

I don't think telling the authorities you only watch ITV would get you very far though.

And the Olympic coverage is only on BBC1 just now - there are other BBC channels.

galletti · 27/07/2012 19:09

Yes Poppy BBC - BRITISH Broadcasting Company Highlighting a very BRITISH Occassion - Totally appropriate on this occasion methinks.

FairPhyllis · 27/07/2012 19:11

Only if people who hate football can get a rebate for incessant and unnecessary football coverage.

Dprince · 27/07/2012 19:12

I am not bothered out the Olympics.
However I hate reality tv shows, the almost/ kind of reality tv shows (ie towie/ made in Chelsea etc) or any of the talent type shows. And I use the word talent loosely.
So if discounts were go en for the olympics, which is on for 16 days every 4 year, I want a discount for the above shit being on constantly. All year every year.

poppyknot · 27/07/2012 19:18

Everything annoys someone and the wall-to-wall Olymics is partly the nature of the games best iself (intense two weeks of different sports).

Actually the licence question is a sport of its own..........now ther's an idea..........

bureni · 27/07/2012 19:20

Its worth watching if you get to see a few of those missiles launched.

JUbilympiX · 27/07/2012 19:34

Yes, I'd like a rebate for all the airtime lost to football, speculation about football, not forgetting news about football, and including all the crap about footballers and their ghastly WAGs. I'd rather watch the Olympics tbh (except the football).

usualsuspect · 27/07/2012 19:35

I wish they would just get on with it, the endless build up shite is boring.

Denise34 · 27/07/2012 19:37

Is there a thread to talk about the Olympics? I looked in TV but there isn't one there.

Fireandashes · 27/07/2012 19:40

Well the alternative to the licence fee is to have the BBC programmes you DO enjoy interrupted by yet more insufferable, ridiculous, annoying adverts on TV than there are already...

Viperidae · 27/07/2012 19:40

I would like a refund on the grounds that the BBC is meant to entertain, educate and inform. They seem to have forgotten the last two things in the rush for the lowest common denominator (and vehicles for their "celeb" presenters)
