to want a TV licence rebate owing to excessive Olympic coverage

in which I am completely uninterested? Even Gardener's World is looking at Olympic gardens. Am I the only person in the UK who is (a) uninterested and (b) is suspicious that someone is tying to make us all interested by hyping it all so much?

ooh look! the "off button"

or you could use BBC 2 3 4 5, wales, scotland, ireland and random local station.

ravenAK · 27/07/2012 19:47

Have a BBC Sports channnel.

Put ALL the sport on it, where people who enjoy it can watch it.

Stop buggering about with the rest of the telly every sodding time someone kicks a bladder or jumps into a sandpit.

I think YANBU. My dh, OTOH, thinks I should STFU on the subject & stop swearing at Boris.

stemginger · 27/07/2012 19:51

...Presumably you have a choice of channels...

not really - they all seem to be covering Olympic related stuff or showing really recent repeats - ie there does not seem to be much real choice.

I know that there is an "off" button - it is the lack of choice for something that I am paying for that I object to (it isn't as if I have bought Sky Sports but I feel like I have).

The "off button" comments seem a bit irrelevant - I'm not saying that I am offended by it, just that I think that this amount of coverage is excessive and do not want to have to turn my TV off for the entire event - I think that the BBC should show a reasonable mix that appeals to the whole audience so was asking here to see if everyone else actually wants to watch wall to wall Olympics.

ilovesooty · 27/07/2012 19:55

There is no Olympic related stuff on any of the other main terrestial channels at the moment and I can't see much in the way of repeats currently either.

ClaireRacing · 27/07/2012 19:56

YABU. For every person that doesn't watch the Olympics, there are those who inhale the coverage 24/7.

ilovesooty · 27/07/2012 19:58

I pay for the service too and I don't want to watch reality and talent show drivel. And as it's been pointed out, that's on most of the time, not once every few years.

Fireandashes · 27/07/2012 20:28

It's three weeks out of four years and we're the host country of the biggest sporting event in the world. Did you REALLY expect anything other than wall-to-wall coverage?

All channels receive some of the license fee. The BBC just gets the lions share.

BTW I am with ilovesooty on this one.

carernotasaint · 27/07/2012 22:20

Can't you be a little bit proud of our Country even just for tonight?

Not until the country treats its vulnerable people better. The elderly, unemployed, disabled, single parents, young people under 25 etc.

JUbilympiX · 27/07/2012 22:58

Well said, carernotasaint.

CarlaBruni · 27/07/2012 23:03

Only if I can have a rebate on all the products that are sold at inflated prices becuse advertised on Sky for the moroms

morethanpotatoprints · 27/07/2012 23:05

YANBU maybe the license fee should be divided by the amount of programmes the bbc offers and we should pay pence for what we watch.

WorraLiberty · 27/07/2012 23:07

If we had to pay to be members of Mumsnet, I'd ask for a rebate due to all the miserable whinging and whining Olympics threads Hmm

Why don't we all look through the Radio Times and ask for a rebate due to the programmes we don't like to watch....

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 27/07/2012 23:09

Look, it's not all bad. Yes the plebs have taken over BBC1 with their silly ball throwing and whizzbangs but BBC4 are showing all the Beethoven symphonies this week.
Tis swings and roundabouts innit

poppyknot · 27/07/2012 23:42

This tweet ticked by agin the BBC bingo card......
