. . . to wonder if baby Blanche was ever born?

There was a thread a few months ago about a woman who got to choose their first born's name under the proviso that her husband could name any future daughter Blanche, after his grandmother I think.

She was then outraged that he expected her to stick to her word and agree to call their daughter Blanche.

Does anyone know what happened. She got her knickers in a big knotty twist when people sided with her husband.

My DD1 is called Blanche and we love the name.

Don't understand the problem really...we only ever get told the name is beautiful.

P.S. I haven't seen Coronation Street.

Latara · 28/07/2012 23:47

Marianne - Blanche in itself is a nice name, sorry.

Just that i remembered it from the character of Deirdre's mother in Corrie. Lots of people won't have heard of the character or think of Corrie at all when they hear the name Blanche anyway.

whackamole (and anyone else) the only name DP and i both like but everyone else hates (my mum is determined to think of another we will like, but it's a bit like guessing rumpelstiltskin's name, with DP refusing every option) is...

...Lysander.

We do also quite like Hector, but maybe moving to the states where it is really common so have gone off that. We both liked Cameron - but i now associate it with the tossbag prime minister and his stupid smug face which looks like it was drawn on a balloon.

sugarice · 29/07/2012 10:22

Spuddy you and DP pick the name that you like, forget the opinions of others. Lysander is unusual but a nice name.

CouthyMow · 29/07/2012 10:31

Ayrton was on my wish list for DS3, but Ex-P vetoed it. It's an AWESOME name.

Noqontrol · 29/07/2012 10:47

Lysander is a great name. If I was having any more children I'd steal it. Wink

UserNameNotAvailable · 29/07/2012 11:08

Spuddybean, Cameron is a great name, thats my ds1's name. I love it Grin

Spuddybean · 29/07/2012 11:15

Yes we like it too username but now i just think of ruddy cheeked pillock PM. It would be different if i knew someone with that name before but i didn't. I love Cam as an abbreviation - much more than Ly.

sugarice · 29/07/2012 11:21

How would you feel if Lysander was shortened to Sandy?. I knew of a child who was named Inlandis and he became Landy.

almapudden · 29/07/2012 12:02

Lysander is a fantastic name.

Spuddybean · 29/07/2012 12:05

hhmm i don't like sandy much, tbh. It is something which my name could be shortened to aswell and i have never opted for it. I think we will just call him the full name. My mum keeps saying how long it is but she doesn't think Rebecca is long or Alexander Confused

We also like Leonidas but DP wanted Lee for short and i don't like Lee. I like Leo tho, but he doesn't. It's so hard.

We are having Persephone if it's a girl. Altho have no thoughts on middle names to go with it. Our surname will be double barreled so we really will sound like the wanker family!

QuintessentialShadows · 29/07/2012 12:09

ha, my mate just made a birth announcement on facebook this morning. His new son is called Olai. Beat that.

Spuddybean · 29/07/2012 12:10

is it pronounced Oh-lie or Oh-lay (Ole!)?

sugarice · 29/07/2012 12:13

I love your name choices! We went with short biblical names as we have a 3 syllable surname and they had a good ring to them but baby names is part of the fun and excitement isn't it.

QuintessentialShadows · 29/07/2012 12:18

Olai like Oil of Olay.

Spuddybean · 29/07/2012 13:26

like a Spanish flamenco dancer? Ole!

memphis83 · 29/07/2012 13:42
