. . . to wonder if baby Blanche was ever born?

squoosh · 26/07/2012 15:33

There was a thread a few months ago about a woman who got to choose their first born's name under the proviso that her husband could name any future daughter Blanche, after his grandmother I think.

She was then outraged that he expected her to stick to her word and agree to call their daughter Blanche.

Does anyone know what happened. She got her knickers in a big knotty twist when people sided with her husband.

Well, if you're from the midlands and drop your h's then you could conceivably have everyone thinking he's called Harry by simply using the nn Ary.

Or call him Tony. The more I think about it, the more the idea of a baby called Tony makes me laugh!

squoosh · 26/07/2012 16:04

Promise, shmromise. You had just started going out, you agree to anything at that stage, it means nothing.

Seriously, why do you not get any input into your child's name? I'd be fizzing with rage.

Novia - you need to start a list of your own favourite names, and then forget that you know he wants Aryton (assuming he's not been going on about it) and start talking about other names you like. Just because he picked his favorite name first doesn't mean he gets the final say - and once you are pregnant, you can throw a hormonal strop about hating the name and wanting a say in it as you're doing all the hard work.

Failing that, Aryton is an excellent middle name.

sugarice · 26/07/2012 16:05

What about Fernando if he's after a GP name, what would you like?

DontmindifIdo · 26/07/2012 16:06

Oh, just seen that you 'promised' - time to forget that. You can say you remember he said he liked it, but don't recall actually agreeing to it...

Novia · 26/07/2012 16:06

I feel that it's a battle I will save until we actually get a BFP and then see a willy on a scan (fingers crossed!) No point in fighting 'til the situation actually arises!

perceptionreality · 26/07/2012 16:08

It's never a good idea to say I'll choose this name you can choose the next. Somehow, for every child you have you have to both agree on something or it will always be a problem!

Dprince · 26/07/2012 16:09

See I wish I had thought of that name for ds. I really like it.

Moominsarescary · 26/07/2012 16:09

Not you novia jakeymom only posted one thread under that name.

Dp named ds3 and said I could choose a name for ds4, which I did although dp did like the name.

He seems to have forgotten and has said I can choose dc 5 name. He might change his mind when I finally think of some names though.

squoosh · 26/07/2012 16:11

It's such a gamble when people have completely opposite tastes to say 'you name this one and I'll name that one'.

Obviously my taste is impeccable but other people . . . . .not so sure.

Novia my dh wanted Tiger. After i said no effing jeffing way. He suggested Tiger's proper name of Eldrick. No effing jeffing way. Then he wanted Barney but dd piped up 'oo yes like the dinosaur'.

Luckily I had girls.

BalloonSlayer · 26/07/2012 16:12

"What about Fernando if he's after a GP name, what would you like?"

Grin

That's what Alan Partridge's son is called!

squoosh · 26/07/2012 16:13

Eldrick aka Tiger. Wowzers.

Phew, your hypothetical son really dodged a bullet there. Top marks to your husband for imagination though!

I really wanted Patrick for ds3 and dh hated it so that was that really, had to find another name. We decided not to leave the delivery room until we agreed Grin, it didn't take long.

Dawndonna · 26/07/2012 16:13

Tell him it's an old yorkshire name.
Hareton.
Grin
(that way you can use Harry legitimately, too).

Novia · 26/07/2012 16:15

The thing is - it's not a throw-away comment from him - it's a life dream, he's always said it! And he knows I agreed to it! He also said that I could choose the name if we have a girl so he isn't (totally) unreasonable!!!

A pre-meditated hormonal strop might be the only way out...!

Ariel24 - love it! It would have been nice to have another little Ayrton in the whole of the UK though! Grin

sugarice - the problem is that Fernando Alonso is such a mardy git I don't think I'd want to use it!

Hmm - Tony as an abbreviation isn't the worst though actually - better than Air!

sugarice · 26/07/2012 16:16

Alan Partridges son is Fernando? Shock I had no idea, is that an Abba connection by any chance Grin

squoosh · 26/07/2012 16:17

Men are big into honouring their sporting heroes through their choice of children's names. I'm sure there'd be many a Messi/Balotelli/Drogba toddling around if it wasn't for mothers saying 'ummm, maybe not dear'. Smile

doctors wife - I just laughed so loud I scared my colleague. That makes me feel MUCH better! Grin

lacroixsweetie · 26/07/2012 16:24

Novia you could always drop into conversation that you think Aryton is a lovely name but you are a bit worried about bullying. Air; airy; fairy........ Boys are cruel...... :) Leave it to stew for a bit and see if he comes around

sugarice · 26/07/2012 16:24

I can't get Abba's Fernando out of my head now. Grin

Novia · 26/07/2012 16:27

Ooh lacroixsweetie - good call!

gordyslovesheep · 26/07/2012 16:27

novia it could be worse - I know someone who called their daughter Senna

EX wanted Ole Gunnar or Cantona - thankfully we had girls

BalloonSlayer · 26/07/2012 16:28

In the Senna documentary they didn't pronounce it Air-ton, it was more Ayar-ton (gosh hard to write the sound down without sounding piratical Aarrrrrr-ton!) so lacroix's idea might not wash.

squoosh · 26/07/2012 16:29

How could you not want to call your little bundle Ole Gunnar Jones?

It's like poetry!
