. . . to wonder if baby Blanche was ever born?

There was a thread a few months ago about a woman who got to choose their first born's name under the proviso that her husband could name any future daughter Blanche, after his grandmother I think.

She was then outraged that he expected her to stick to her word and agree to call their daughter Blanche.

Does anyone know what happened. She got her knickers in a big knotty twist when people sided with her husband.

Novia - middle name? Maybe you can allow Ayrton but insist on a certain middle name, and then if baby is DS you can call him by the middle name instead.

I know someone who did this and the son changed his name by deed poll when he was legally old enough to (got rid of hated first name completely), father was upset but mother pointed out that if he hadn't insisted on the daft name in the first place it would never have happened Grin

Bit sneaky. But admittedly the name was terrible, far worse than Ayrton IMO.

Gunnar would be a cracking name ! Grin I wonder if there are any little Gunnar's running around Manchester?

squoosh · 26/07/2012 16:34

There must be little Beckhams doing the rounds.

My DH wanted Ace or Slevin. They were, obviously, vetoed. Our son has a normal name that we both agreed on (albeit one branded a 'naughty boy name' on MN). DH now admits that they were both stupid suggestions.

Novia · 26/07/2012 16:39

BalloonSlayer - my DH would be the only one to pronounce his name 'properly' as he's got the Spanish lisp! I wouldn't and neither would any of the English family. At school I would also imagine he'd get called Air-ton! It actually sounds like quite a posh English name if you pronounce it like that! Smile

ScrambledSmegs - worth a thought!

In fairness - I don't loathe the name Ayrton - it does have a certain charm. I just think it's a tough one to land a (half-English) kid with.

sugarice · 26/07/2012 16:46

DS3 has a friend with a Spanish Dad,all of the children have inherited his Spanish looks-olive skin, flowing hair and big brown eyes and could get away with that name as they look Spanish and it would suit them if that makes sense.

Novia · 26/07/2012 16:55

sugarice - DH is a genetic mutation with green eyes and pale skin! Smile Hopefully we'll pick back up the genes which gave his sister's gorgeous children their black/brown hair and eyes and tanned skin instead!

Any children will have a (very) Spanish surname either way, so it does work (being similar to a Brazilian surname)...

sugarice · 26/07/2012 16:58

Sounds great, whatever name you pick will sound fab with a Spanish surname, even something like Trevor or Malcolm sounds interesting. Imagine if your offspring has green eyes and olive skin, amazing!

Soapysuds64 · 26/07/2012 17:08

Met someone in soft play with a ds..... Beckham Joe. Had to try not to laugh whilst she told me.

squoosh · 26/07/2012 17:13

Beckham Joe. Sounds like a roll call where you call surname first.

Good grief, surely you can agree on a name you both like??

NicholasTeakozy · 26/07/2012 17:17

Of course you said no to Tiger and Eldrick TheDoctorsWife. He's going to be called Vale, after your husband.

I was so convinced I was having a girl, that I agreed DH could name the DC if we had a boy first, middle, last. We didn't want to know the sex and yet it was till a shock to find out DS was male.

He is named after his paternal great grandfathers and has a very traditional name. He suits it but I am still trying to find a diminutive I like 5 years later.

Let that be a lesson to you.

Tallalime · 26/07/2012 21:22

Yeah, you do have to agree unfortunately

I am still bitter that OH wouldn't let me call DD Ariadne though, it's been 5 years. I have gone on and on and ON gotten him to agree on my name for my second, as yet hypothetical, DD though. Grin

GoTeamkozy · 26/07/2012 21:26

Sometimes SignoraRossi I think we're the only MotoGP fans on here, as I'm the only one who 'gets' your NN. :)

Eggrules · 26/07/2012 21:29

I love the name Ariadne.

OHforDUCKScake · 26/07/2012 21:30

Novia I love the name Ayrton. Is your husband a formula1 fan? We were going to call our second son Jenson Ayrton. I wanted his first name as Ayrton. We thought it might be a bit of an F1 overload though and I loved the name Jenson so stuck with that. His second name is Rocket instead now but Ayrtons wicked. Go for it!

BertieBotts · 26/07/2012 21:34

Grin Fernando was a pretend name that someone I used to shag know used on facebook, the pretentious knob.

I won't say his real name obviously but rest assured it was something mundane along the lines of Ben.

sagenod · 26/07/2012 21:35

novia I know a little half Spanish half Portuguese boy called Senna-it has definitely grown on me-could be an alternative to ayrton!

OHforDUCKScake · 26/07/2012 21:37

I love the name Senna.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 26/07/2012 21:41

headfairy · 26/07/2012 21:43
